I'm Lance Corporal Wlodowski.
Our role is to provide early indicators and warnings
to the situation either working with a brigade
or working with a small infantry battalion.
This is a looped light electronic warfare team.
We normally deploy into the field for a minimum of 72 hours.
That's our scope time.
We've got some sensitive equipment with regards to intercepting signals.
The need behind it is really important.
Effectively, it can save lives.
So we deploy in a six-man team.
We do a soak, find out who's talking to who, what's going on,
where it's happening, why it's happening.
This allows infantry battalions and intelligence analysts
to have more of an idea of what's going on on the battlefield
so they know where to put people, where not to put people.
We're able to prevent ambushes from happening,
prevent contacts whilst on patrol,
and the commander has an idea of what's going on in front of him.
Okay, so we've just intercepted some signals over the ICOM scanner,
and now I'm putting those signals onto my database,
which I'm going to send up to my hierarchy for them to analyze
and distinguish what's relevant and what's not relevant.
I like the freedom.
As soon as I've had orders, I'm on the plane or on the truck,
it's down to me to intercept the information
and to communicate back, and you get to be able to apply
what you've learned in training onto the actual battlefield.
