Tied third last time out in South Africa.
Really narrow gap in between the trees here at the first. That's a good shot.
Just so close to the edge of the trees there, but got away with it.
Different game plan for John. Doesn't quite suit his eye at that shoot.
Like David mentioned, it's really narrow.
Part three, fourth and Wako Neyman.
Oh, beautifully played.
Really? Really?
What a way to start for Wako Neyman.
And the all-Latin American, Luton K. GC.
A 16th hole-in-one in Live Golf history.
Nice.
This was for Birdie at the eighth a few moments ago.
He's followed that with a couple of pars at nine and ten.
John Rahm has started very well once again.
He is five under par.
That was his third shot at the seventh.
But our early leader is Victor Perez.
He teed off at the sixth.
He birdied six of his opening ten holes.
That was his second shot into the par four-tenth.
So this is how it looks here in Mexico City.
Victor Perez, who plays for Cleeks Golf Club, who are having a good opening day.
He leads John Rahm by a shot.
Harold Varner the third.
Charles Howell the third.
Ian Poulter and wildcard Bjorn Helgren are four under par.
One of five players on three under, along with Dean Burmester as well.
Solid starts for Dusty Johnson.
There's Bryson, one under.
Defending champion here, Wako Niemann, one under par.
And in form, Thomas Dietry is one under as well.
One of two teams shot back.
This is the 11th green and Tyrell Hudson.
Over to Bryson, his third shot at 11.
Beautiful effort.
Had a miserable start a week ago.
Seven over his first five holes.
Grinded it out from there.
Another birdie.
Two straight for Carlos Ortiz, the man from Guadalajara.
300 or so miles west of his here in Mexico City and he's two under par.
Elsewhere, Harold Varner the third is enjoying a good start to the tournament here.
That was his third shot at the sixth hole.
And HV3 is four under par nearly going for that infectious smile.
Laurie Cantor of the Majestics.
This was his second shot at 17.
And he holds out for Eagle.
And Laurie Cantor is two under par.
Charles Harrell, long one for birdie here at number eight.
Beautiful try.
Seven holes to play.
Oh, lovely shot there.
What an unfortunate stance here, but.
Doesn't look too bad.
That's nicely played.
Yeah, that's a great shot out of the bunker, David.
Always a bit unsettling.
And Poulter after a nice start.
He's four under his second shot of the fifth.
Oh, a beauty.
And for Eagle at 12, Tyrell Haddon.
No chance.
Beautiful.
That could kick start his round.
Let's have some zip.
There we go.
Bread and butter stuff.
Oh, you're getting off the tree.
The good old ricochet.
Well, historically, a lot of people have done that at the 17th hole at St. Andrews.
Yes.
Yeah.
Off the wall.
Yeah.
Not enough club.
Unfortunately, the texture of the tree doesn't have enough rebound.
Tyrell Haddon.
He's getting moving after that.
Eagle at 12.
A birdie at 13.
And Tyrell is three under.
Well, Tom McKibben of Legion 13.
He teed off at the 12th earlier today.
And this birdie at the par five seventh got him to four under par.
And he's within two of his captain.
John Rahm.
Dustin Johnson.
He's three under par through 13 holes.
That was the birdie at 16.
194 yard par three.
Slightly uphill.
That's got a really nice line.
Little gentle fade.
Still left of the hole.
That's good.
Very good.
Flag high.
No signal out of Jibo.
That's also turning to the left edge of the green.
If it sits down, it can catch it.
Oh, it just gets there.
Dumbfounded.
How is it that short?
And Neiman from the green set bunker on 18.
That's nice.
Very nicely played.
Junghan Song on the par three 14th.
He's got it four under.
Beautiful shot.
Dances around the hole.
But he's very unlucky there to catch the slope.
Well, we were inches away from seeing the second hole in one.
Yeah.
Look at this.
Gives you an indication of just some of the slopes here at Chapultepec.
Richard Lee, a wild card in our field.
And he's seventh in the season long standings.
That was a birdie on the first.
Abraham Hamster on 16.
Two out.
Yeah, he can probably fly this all the way to the pin.
His tee shot at 18.
That was just a caress, David.
Yeah.
Yeah, beautiful shot.
Nice there.
Almost flies it in the can.
Flag is right behind that bunker.
A lot of spin would be helpful.
Exactly like that.
Delightful shot.
That's beautifully done.
This is third shot at the seventh, the par five.
This is flag hunting territory here.
A spin back nicely.
Chance maybe.
Yeah, of course.
I've seen a few hole outs today.
Slightly elevated green here.
We can't see the bottom of this pin.
He walks all the way up.
And with his altitude and that up slope, that heart rate's got to be going.
That needs to skip one.
Oh, what a shot.
This is all about yardage calculation.
Straight up the hole.
Beautiful.
Left flag, 20 paces on five from the left.
Not a good shot from Perez.
Really is.
That will be for birdie 11, David.
That's amazing.
It could very well be the case too, Anne.
He needs to sit.
So Victor Perez on his final hole.
It's the par four fifth and this is for yet another birdie.
The first round of 62 for Victor Perez.
He's nine under par.
It's his best live golf round.
He ended his round with four straight birdies.
And he leads this quality live golf field by two shots.
No wonder he's smiling.
Just choose it out of here.
Not as hard as he could hit it.
Maybe a little fortunate with the bounce, but a great shot.
Now Bermester also on this first hole, but from the first cut.
That's also nicely played.
Second at 17 for Carlos Ortiz.
Oh, yes.
Your mind after a while.
This would be a nice way to finish.
Oh, good putt.
71 for Bryson.
Well done.
Disappointing finish though for Carlos.
So the end of day one here in Mexico City at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
And it's a day that belonged to Victor Perez,
a 33-year-old Frenchman, a three-times winner on the DP World Tour.
The last in Abu Dhabi in 2023.
A 62, 11 birdies, two bogeys, nine under par.
It's a three-shot lead over our title race leader, John Rom.
