What's up guys, my name is Ryan and I recently turned from traveling across Oman and I want
to share with you my favorite places and experiences so here's my Oman Top 10.
Located on the Arabian Peninsula, Oman is one of the most beautiful countries in the Middle East.
From lush wadis to camels roaming on the beach, Oman has so much to offer. My wife and I, along
with my good friend Walker, spent 9 days exploring Oman and I can't wait to share with you what we
Let's start this video off at Muscat. If you're coming into Oman, this is where you'll probably
be flying into. Muscat is Oman's biggest city and it's situated on the northern coast. One of the
most famous places in Muscat is the area around Mutrah. Before Oman discovered oil, this was the
country's center of commerce. It's a large seaport and I was really excited to explore it. I love
walking around the Cornish. It's a beautiful waterfront area. There is a really interesting
fort that overlooks all of Mutrah so we decided to hike up to it. It cost about 3 Omani Rials to
get in and once we reached the top, it gave an incredible view of the whole area. Afterwards,
we walked over to the Mutrah Souq. It's one of the oldest bazaars in the Arab world and it was
just so much fun to walk around and look at all the things being sold here. Another one of the
most famous attractions in Muscat and Oman in general is the Grand Mosque. It was constructed
in 2001 and it's one of the most impressive religious buildings that I've ever been to.
It's free to enter and it was an absolute spectacle. Everything was so grand and ornate. It's
definitely worth checking out while you're in Oman. Now, if you want to see a cool scenic place
just out of the city, you can go to Yenkit Bay. We took our 4x4 car and drove out to the bay's
overlook. It's this almost sphere-like shaped channel and we were able to get some great
footage here. After, we want to leave the mainland and head out to the Ad-Dimaniyah Islands. Located
about 18 kilometers off of Oman's coast, Ad-Dimaniyah is an archipelago made up of nine islands. To get
there, we went to the port in Sieb where we met our boat captain and then we drove out to the
islands. After about 30 minutes, we made it to the first island. I was immediately amazed at the color
and clearly the water. We went out and did some snorkeling and came across some turtles. After,
we boated to one of the most western islands. The shape of it was just so unique as it stuck out in
the sea. We got off the boat here and explored the beach. It had really nice white sand and the
landscape here was just so surreal and it was just such an incredible place and definitely worth
coming out to visit. When we got back to the port, we decided to go over the coast to this place
called Al-Sawadi Beach. There's this island out there with a tower and it was really cool to film.
After, we want to head inland to visit the city of Nizwa. Located about a two-hour drive from Muscat,
Nizwa is one of the largest cities in the region. What made you want to visit it was its fort. It was
constructed in the 17th century and took 12 years to finish. To enter the fort, it cost a few Omani
Rials and I was very impressed by its main tower. It's absolutely huge and it had this really
peculiar shape. We walked to the center of the tower and then there were some stairs on the
tower's edge that let you look out over the city. I definitely would have felt protected here hundreds
of years ago. After, we just explored the rest of the fort. It felt like we were in a scene straight
out of Prince of Persia. There was also a nice garden area that was just fun to walk through.
Now, another cool place in the area is the Harat al-Sabani. Located about 30 minutes from Nizwa,
Harat is this ancient abandoned village in the town of Bikrat al-Moz. The mud homes have really
eroded over the centuries, but we had a good time just walking to the top of the settlement.
Just be prepared to get quite dusty. Another thing that I loved about this place was just
all the date trees that surrounded the area. I mean, this part of Oman is just so beautiful.
While we're still in the area, we're gonna head to Misfat al-Abrin. Located about an hour's drive
from Nizwa, Misfat al-Abrin is this village in the mountains. It was really cool to walk through
alleyways, but what makes the village so famous is its irrigation system that's over 2,000 years
old, and it still works today. Now, while we're in the mountains, we're gonna head to Jebel Shams.
With a height of 3,018 meters, Jebel Shams is the highest mountain in Oman. The peak of Jebel Shams
is a military base, so the best way to see the mountains is from the Jebel Shams viewpoint.
To get there, it was about an hour and a half's drive from Nizwa. When we arrived, I was just
surprised how cold it was, so maybe bring a jacket if you go. We had a good time just walking around
up here. You get an incredible view of the massive canyon between Jebel Shams and the viewpoint.
It's the second deepest Grand Canyon in the world. I mean, it's quite impressive. It would be cool to
spend the night up here to see the sunset and sunrise. Afterwards, we're gonna leave the
mountains and head to the iconic Wadi Shab, located about a one and a half hour's drive
from Misfat. Wadi Shab is probably the most famous wadi in all Oman. To reach there,
we first went to Tiwi, which is this beautiful town on the coast. There was a parking lot at
entrance to the wadi. From there, we took a small boat ride across the water to start the hike.
We came pretty early to avoid the crowds. It was super peaceful and scenic to walk through the
canyon. After about 40 minutes of hiking, we made it to the point where you have to get in the water
to continue. It was a little bit chilly, but man, it was just so much fun. The water was so clean and
clear. After about 10 minutes of waiting, swimming, and walking through the water, we made it to the
famous spot where you have to wade through this skinny crack to get into the cave. I'm not gonna
lie, it made me feel a little claustrophobic. The water is so deep that your feet can't touch,
and there was one spot that had to squeeze my head to get through, but we all made it through
pretty easily. Once you get through the crack, you enter this cave that has a waterfall coming down,
which is so freaking cool. There was this rope on the waterfall, so we climbed up to it, and it led
us to the top where there was this nice pool area. After, we had to climb back down the waterfall
and go through the crack again. Overall, it was such a fun adventure and definitely worth doing.
After we finished up at Wadi Shab, we drove 40 minutes down the coast to Sur. Of all the cities,
I thought Sur was one of the most scenic with its incredible coastline and attractions.
I wanted to get a good view of Sur, so we hiked up to the Al-Ajjah Watchtower. It was a steep
but short hike, and the views up here were incredible. The combination of the water,
bridge, and watchtowers was just so scenic. We had such a fun time filming up here. I really
liked the Al-Ajjah Lighthouse, which was on the peninsula, and there was also some boats in the
water that leads into the ocean, which I thought was so cool. I'm so glad we stopped at this
watchtower. Now afterwards, we wanted to see some of Oman's desert, so we headed to Sharqiyah Sands,
also known as Wahiba Sands. This area is a massive desert with sand dunes over 100 meters high. To
get there, we drove to the town of Al-Wasil, which was about a 1.5 hours drive from Sur,
and then we drove our 4x4 car into one of the roads that headed into the sand dunes.
I don't have any experience driving in sand, so we decided just to hike up the dune, but I did see
other cars up here, so it would be worth getting a guide to drive up. Anyways, the hike wasn't too
bad, and it was incredible to be up here in the evening right before sunset. The temperature
wasn't too hot, and the lighting was incredible, thus setting sun. This was easily the best sunset
we had on the trip. After, we went ahead to Wadi Hawar, located about an hour's drive from Al-Wasil.
I think this was my favorite place we went to in Oman. To get there, we drove to this town,
and met with my friend WBK Omani Guide, and he took us into the Wadi. The scenery here was
incredible. After about 30 minutes, we made it to the first pool, where we had to get in and
navigate through the water. I brought my goggles, and the water was just so freaking clear. After a
few minutes, we made it to the first waterfall, and I had to send a jump off of it. I mean,
I couldn't believe this water. It had this very distinct emerald color. It was just pure paradise.
Afterwards, there was a second pool that had an even bigger cliff to jump off of,
so me and my buddy Walker sent some jumps into the Wadi. I mean, this place was just so much fun.
We spent all morning and afternoon here just jumping and enjoying the water. I wish we had
more time, because we could have gone further down the canyon, so I guess we'll just have to do that
another time. I mean, it's just hard to believe places like this really exist. After, we went
ahead to the south of Oman to visit Salalah. Located right next to the border of Yemen,
Salalah is home to some of the country's most beautiful beaches and landscapes. During the
monsoon season, which starts in late June to early September, this place gets so lush and green,
it looks like a tropical paradise. We were here at the end of January, so it was extremely dry,
but I'd love to return to see Salalah when it's green. Now, to get there, you can either fly or
drive. We decided to make the long 10-hour drive. One of the first places I wanted to visit was
Afo Beach. It's located 45 minutes outside of Salalah, and it's this incredible coastal area
that has this U-shaped canyon that leads to the ocean. To get a great view of it, we went to this
lookout that's right off the road, and it had a great vantage point at the beach. Afterwards,
we headed further down the coast to Jabal Shah. It's this massive cliff that descends down into
the sea. It was a little bit cloudy when we were here, but sometimes, this viewpoint is engulfed
in clouds, especially during the monsoon season. It was definitely the biggest sea cliff we saw
during our time in Oman. For sunset that day, we decided to head down to the Fasaya Beach.
It was a really relaxing area at the base of these cliffs that descended into the ocean.
There was a ton of places to relax, and it was a great place to spend the evening. On our last day,
we headed over to Wadi Darbat. It's one of Oman's tallest waterfalls with a 90-meter drop.
Since we were here during the dry season, there was no water going down the waterfall. I walked
out to the base, and it was just bone dry, but I love to come here during the monsoon season when
this place looks completely different, full of turquoise pools, and less scenery. Afterwards,
we headed to Salalah's mountains to visit Jabal Samhan. Located about an hour from Salalah,
it's the highest mountains in the area, reaching up to 2,100 meters. There was this nice pathway
up here, and the views were absolutely incredible. Now for the final stop of our trip, we decided to
head to the fairly remote Fushi Beach. Now during our time in Oman, I really wanted to film camels
on the beach, but all the places we went to didn't have any camels. But as we pulled up to Fushi Beach
after driving nearly two hours, we saw a herd of over 20 camels just chilling on the beach.
I mean, I couldn't believe my eyes. The combination of the massive mountain backdrop,
with camels just walking on the beach, is a scene I'll remember for the rest of my life.
We filmed the camels for over 30 minutes as they roamed the beach and headed inland in search of
more food. It was a gamble to drive out this far on our last day, but it was an absolute perfect
way to end our trip. Well, that is it for my Oman top 10. It was one of the most amazing
countries I visited, and I gotta come back to make part 2. Let me know where your favorite
place is in the comments below. I also have a second channel where I make hour-long relaxation
films, and I did one on Oman that I think you'll love. You can find me on Instagram and TikTok
at Shirley.films. It's Ryan, and we will see you later.
