Emma Stone was "shaky but excited" backstage in the winners room at The BAFTAs 2024 for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things. She said that people don't win awards that deserve to win sometimes.
These people with the phones, they like you.
Hi.
How are you feeling?
Really good. A little shaky.
I think it's like a combination of jet lag and excitement.
Yes.
Yeah, the first question about excitement,
I think absolutely you put a lot of your heart and soul into making a film.
A lot of people are away from their families for months at a time
and you bond with this group of people
and the excitement of it being received
or seen or loved by people is immensely meaningful
and you don't know if that's going to happen or not,
if it's going to resonate with people the way that it does with you.
Also, to be a producer on this film,
this was the first film that I produced alongside of acting
so it feels doubly meaningful
because both in front of and behind,
it was incredible to be part of it.
And then what role awards serve,
I think for a lot of films,
it brings people into theatres to see it,
it brings more attention to a film
and I think there are a lot of people who deserve awards
that never get awards,
which also creates a conversation about why
and hopefully culture changes more and more
and expands more and more to include so many people in so many ways.
So awards are an interesting thing
but I think they can be incredibly meaningful
to films that people might not otherwise see.
Is the chin wag a chat?
A little bit.
I've gotten to see a good amount of these people
at different things throughout the past few weeks.
I mean, BAFTAs, there's no commercial break.
There's no time to run to the loo, as it were.
So you really don't get much time to talk in between.
I haven't gotten to talk to too many people yet
but I did see Killian and we did have a bit of a chin wag.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you, guys.
