We went over the rules in the dressing room.
I want to remind you, protect yourself at all times.
Obey my commands.
Recuerda, quiero una pelea limpia.
Dios los bendiga. God bless. Touch up.
He's only fought out of Costa Rica twice.
This is very different.
If he is victorious,
will become the first male champion from Costa Rica.
Nicely struggled against Walsh.
And this one has been stripped of the world titles.
These early rounds, very important.
Ivan Calderon.
Nice right hook.
Fonseca's feisty, though, man.
He's punching back in those pockets.
There's a nice right hand body punch by Fonseca.
Very speedy guy, and the guy was a sharp counterpuncher.
Good counter left hand by Davis.
And a man that has admitted he's come in here with a cold.
Now a little short stabbing right hand
to the body by Fonseca.
Speed and power.
You see Fonseca go downstairs.
Hall of Fame trainer, who's a great fighter,
trainer of Fonseca, said these early rounds-
There's a right hook to the body by Davis.
Left uppercut on the inside by Tank Davis.
Right hand to the body by Fonseca.
30 seconds left in the first frame,
and Davis just missed with that left uppercut.
And he has a powerful left hand, Davis.
Yeah, but a nice left hand by Fonseca.
He got that left hand in rather well.
Another good left hand to the body.
A lot of the shots Davis is throwing, too.
Time!
First round, almost not at all.
Control the geography.
What I mean by that is,
don't let Fonseca get in the inside.
The bell co-feature spot
of this historic night of combat sports.
No, no, no.
Whoa!
No, no, no.
What'd he do?
No, no, it's a-
Oh, no!
That's one of the both of them.
Yeah.
Come on.
There's a nice combination.
Keeping Fonseca honest.
Honest frame with the eyes.
You see what Davis just did?
He looked down at the shoes.
Okay.
Boy, he's not throwing too many right now.
Davis started boxing at the age of five,
at over two.
The histrionics.
Again, you don't make weights.
Right out.
Yeah, yeah.
So, wow!
Fonseca caught him!
Davis, who wants to now put on a show
in Sin City, it seems.
That got through,
but they weren't through 100%.
That's why Fonseca's able to stand right in front of him.
Because, you know, 130 pounds,
there's no way you'll stand in front of Davis like that.
The things about this match that's most interesting is,
he's got 13 knockouts and 19 wins.
Not against great opposition,
but he's throwing some nice punches here.
Still to come, Floyd Mayweather versus Connor McGregor,
which he has been hit with by Davis.
So, it makes it kind of intriguing as we move forward.
As he puts his hands behind his neck.
That's so hard.
Oh, what a nice left uppercut!
Sometimes when you achieve super stardom,
or stardom.
Davis with a nice right hook.
Too young.
It's a two-edged sword, you know?
It's a little bit dangerous.
Davis is going to make himself an enemy of this crowd.
They were cheering every time.
220 amateur fights,
and now, beginning to unload on Fonseca.
Ripping to the body with a right hook.
Left uppercut upstairs,
and now, Gervonta Davis starting to feel it.
Fonseca caught him with a combination there.
Blinded for Fonseca.
Look, Fonseca's not a monstrous knockout.
Strafing Davis with the left hook and right hand.
Sporting spectacle.
That's the thing about Calderon, he's smart.
He's a former fighter.
And, honey, for the first time here in America,
under the bright lights of Las Vegas
on this once-in-a-lifetime combat sport.
Through the straight left at the head.
Oh, good counter.
Stop!
Now, Fonseca went downstairs with that right.
Sometimes too much, too soon.
Floyd, though, at 21 years old, was always mature,
even though he won the world title that young.
Some other guys, though.
That's the kind of offense
we are accustomed to seeing from Davis.
Davis was the first title holder
from his hometown of Baltimore since Haseem Orozman.
Davis locking himself into the corner.
Fonseca attacks the body, and there's a clash of heads.
Watch your head.
Time!
Fonseca on the ropes,
and various attacks to both the body and the head.
We begin round number four.
Davis pawing at Fonseca with a jab.
Some other guys, though, they go through problems.
Body shot by Davis.
Another left hand to the body.
Good left hand.
He's there in the chest
when that's happening.
Look over the head.
The guy, you're being set up for a counter.
Nice little counter hook by Davis there.
Davis' power there can knock you out,
so he doesn't need a lot of punches,
but at 100% or at least isn't fighting
as well as he normally does.
That's gonna create doubts in and of itself,
because you're thinking,
this guy shouldn't even be here.
I didn't think he was all that, so.
Another right hook to the body.
Oh, and that left hand.
Davis putting a lot of pop behind these punches.
Catches Fonseca with a left uppercut.
Burning a lot of effort, though,
although Davis did roll with it.
Oh, nice body shot again by Fonseca.
This is not going a long way.
Fonseca bounces that right hand off the arm of Davis,
but then catches him with that right,
but that left hand was off the arm as well,
so Fonseca getting busy to the body here in round five.
Showmanship, you know,
Davis realizes he's on a big stage,
and takes a couple shots there.
Fonseca makes him pay.
And a 30-pound weight class.
Good left hand there.
Davis puts together a combination.
Now talking to Fonseca.
There's a right hand, but bounced off.
Davis has had that one.
Clipped.
Fonseca upstairs.
And a right hook.
And now Fonseca being turned around,
loading up to the body.
Left uppercut up the middle,
but Fonseca coming forward,
trying to slow down Fonseca with those body shots.
Devontae Davis would be gone.
Oh, and Davis.
Big right hand by Fonseca.
Hand bomb caught off balance.
We're having a fun debate.
Right hand to the body by Davis.
Open counter.
He's thrown 14 more punches already.
You could slow him down.
There's a right hand on cue
to the body, Al Bernstein.
You heard me.
He landed this nice uppercut.
Davis kind of still with the show voting,
but I'll tell you what,
I think Fonseca won that round, in my opinion.
He's trying not to fight all three minutes in the round.
Exactly.
Which he has the intelligence to do.
That's how much experience amateur.
Davis fighting in flurries,
and that was very well done.
Another left hook to the body,
a right hand to the body.
Even mentally lazy in that
he's not trying to create his own openings.
A lot of times he wants Fonseca to create.
Coming up, main event all about the multi-milli rock.
Both Conor McGregory pound a fight, Fonseca.
Oh, on that break, Fonseca took a shot to the body.
Fonseca, if he wins, will walk away with the title.
Now in this round, Fonseca has been very economical,
has not thrown a lot of punches.
Did a number more than Davis.
During the course of this fight,
some of the flurries very impressive.
You still have to have a fight left.
This is, enjoying this round, there's six rounds left.
If Davis prevails, the title remains vacant.
Nice body shot.
Maybe wait for him to take an overpressure
or step in too hard,
and then try to make him pay for it.
You know, he's fought five lefties,
and he says it's not a problem.
I'll tell you what.
I'm going to have to put you two in timeout tonight.
A minute left.
Skills than to just be, he makes the point,
I am a better skilled boxer than just an attacker.
Fight expectations mean nothing.
You go by what you see.
And his punches, he's matched Fonseca to the body,
in my opinion, and when he has-
He'd be throwing more punches if he was ready to fight.
He's trying to walk right in
instead of earning his real estate back.
Davis back on the bicycle, utilizing lateral footwork,
then lands the right hand from just outside range,
Yeah, yeah.
But he's trying to keep-
Oh.
See, this is what I mean.
He's trying to bait him into the corner, I guess,
and yet it's Fonseca.
Tonight, he's thrown less punches than Fonseca.
He's moved backwards.
This is not Gervonta Davis.
And I totally agree with Steve.
In scoring, that is just, that is right on.
With punches, you know-
And listen, he's powerful.
He could knock out Fonseca at any time.
There's no question.
To the body where he wants to be, to get to the body.
But in reality, Davis shouldn't let him in that easily.
Almost fighting like a wily veteran, you know?
Yes, precisely.
He's trying not to fight him.
See Fonseca trying to not, again, he's understanding.
He doesn't want Davis to rest when Davis is looking to rest.
Davis will backpedal looking to rest.
And let's bring in our unofficial scorer, Steve.
Yeah, Fonseca catching a lot of those shots
in the, with the gloves.
It's not a problem.
Because he throws those left hooks to the body
like you're supposed to against a lefty.
Again, fighting in spurts, conserving his energy,
trying to maximize the combinations that he does.
We are going to the eighth round.
Oh, Davis caught him with a left.
That jab is beautiful, Tank.
Keep using that jab, man.
Look, when you turn, don't turn out of range.
Don't use your, don't use your real estate.
Round number eight, scheduled for 12.
Been knocked down in their respective careers.
Oh, nice counter left hand.
Fonseca around with that, wanting to make him a...
What's a fidget spinner?
Never heard that one.
Google it, Al.
Okay.
The kids will tell you.
Oh, Fonseca.
Oh, they're ruling it a knockdown.
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
And the fight has been stopped.
Fonseca unable to answer the 10 count,
but we're going to have to look at a replay here, guys.
We have the time of 39 seconds in round number eight.
He is the winner by way of knockout,
Gervonta Tank Davis.
All the fans who saw the replay not impressed with this.
