Suddenly, when I reached Boquete—known as the "Switzerland of Panama"—everything changed. The climate transformed, the heat became a distant memory and my exploration of the region led me to an incredible discovery: a hobbit house! And now I know how it is to be a hobbit. Join me for this magical journey and experience the hidden charm of Panama's highlands!
Good morning!
Well, this video is going to start differently because I thought I'm just going to share
with you my morning routine because pretty much every time I stay in a hotel or an apartment
I have the same routine. So here we go. Are you ready?
First things first, after I wake up I immediately check my phone.
This is a moment when I can reply to all your wonderful comments across
YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
Once that's done I roll out my mat for the 20-minute yoga session.
That's a great way to get my body moving and prepare for the day.
Then it's a quick shower and I do my makeup.
At 9am sharp it's time for my Spanish lesson with my tutor.
And right after that it's definitely coffee time.
And sometimes I'll enjoy a light breakfast with it too.
Around 10am I make sure to post a new reel or picture on Instagram and Facebook.
Then it's a quick dash to pack everything up,
get chilly ready and just like that we're back on the road.
This is the lovely family.
Hello!
What's your name guys?
Mari.
That's right, I was staying with these guys for the last two days.
I had a wonderful stay.
She was a wonderful guest.
You guys were a wonderful host.
Thank you so much.
These are lovely people.
Aww, they're my best friends.
That is so awesome.
Hasta luego!
Aww, they were so nice.
You have no idea.
What a lovely family.
And now we're going to the Panamanian Alps.
The Alps of Panama.
And everyone says to me,
you're gonna get cold.
And I say, I hope so.
This is bloody hot here.
32 degrees.
Unhumid.
Enough.
Yeah, and it's raining heavily.
That's okay.
We're not camping.
No, no, no.
This is it.
We made it to Roqueta, the Alps of Panama.
I think this is it.
We're in the heart of town now.
Very cool.
Well, the temperature here is 22 degrees.
I wouldn't say it's cold.
It's just right.
So much for getting cold.
I knew it's not gonna happen.
Oh, maybe this is some kind of main square?
Because there's a church?
I'd say so.
I love it here.
Let's stay here for a couple of days.
Go for a walk.
See what's going on.
While it's still not raining,
I want to check out one place.
Oh, this is it?
Ah, see?
Look at this.
It's a pretty cool rock formation, isn't it?
And it's quite a small area that is so exposed.
Wow.
This is insane.
Honestly, it's like a piece of art.
Like a sculpture.
But it's all natural.
And that's insane that people climb it.
Because I'd be paranoid that one of these will just chip as I go.
The probability is quite high, I think, for this to chip.
I think.
Put your hair, put your hair, mate.
Okay, hold on, hold on.
I'll fix my hair.
There you go.
You're ready.
So this is Christian.
Hello, nice to meet you.
Welcome to Boquete.
Muchas gracias.
Dankeschön.
Christian is from Germany.
But I just found out that...
We have been living here for 25 years
and we've been creating some rock climbing here in Boquete.
So we want to invite everybody to come and climb
and check out this beautiful rock we have discovered around 15 years ago.
It was completely covered by vegetation.
Basically, you're saying all of that was vegetation and it was not even exposed.
How did you know it's a good...
Because it was a sheer wall, I guess, yeah?
So you could see it was a good...
It had a potential, right?
We had a good friend from Canada here.
He already was a rock climber.
So he saw the rock and he saw the potential.
And then we have been working together.
But if we wouldn't clean this in two years, it would be all covered again.
You can see how all these plants are growing.
We have to take them out and keep everything clean.
So now you've created this beautiful...
It's called the bricks, los ladrillos.
The bricks means because they use those rocks to build the first houses here in Boquete.
So it was like a stone brick.
Boquete stone brick, los ladrillos.
Los ladrillos.
So back in the days, up the road,
there was exploding the same kind of basalt rock to create...
It's basalt?
Aha, basalt.
To create bricks for building houses.
That's why it's called los ladrillos.
Wow.
So it's here because of you guys.
I'm like, why?
I went to him like, why are you guys climbing here?
It's just such a beautiful nature monument.
He goes, yeah, we cleaned it.
That's why it's here.
And now so many people are coming to see it, right?
That's right.
Well done you.
I'll give you a high five.
High five.
Well, if you want to rock climbing.
Boquete rock climbing.
That's it.
See Christian.
He's the man.
And you have a BMW GS.
It's parked right here at 1200.
I love it.
I bought it to go to Mexico.
So I'm going to follow your steps.
That's it.
Yes.
If you need any tips, I can give you some.
I was in Mexico for five months.
Nice to meet you, mate.
Thank you for this narration.
So let's keep going.
Apparently, yes, if we're going on that way,
we're going to do a loop and there's a waterfall on the way.
So let's check this one out first.
And then we're going to look for accommodation.
All right.
And here we have a bridge.
Here we have rocks and the river.
So Cascada San Ramon should be somewhere here.
It's drizzling.
Where is my Cascada?
Oh, that's a cool bridge.
Nice suspended bridge.
Maybe here.
It truly is.
There we go.
Ah, not too big.
Cascada San Ramon.
And here on the other side, we have a river.
And look at this road.
Oh, no, wait.
Not this way.
There.
I love it how these clouds are just brushing the mountain.
Oh, Chillie, you are looking so fine.
Keep moving.
Whoa, I got a nice bridge.
Steel bridge.
Nice river.
No, no, no, no, no.
So here we have a lot of farming land.
They grow veggies.
Now it's time to look for an accommodation.
There's this one place.
It looks so awesome, but it's a bit expensive.
You can see from here, that castle.
I know what you're thinking, but it's not about the castle.
I have to.
Look, this could be my house.
Isn't that amazing?
Like a whole village of hobbit houses.
Oh, we're doing it.
We are so doing it.
What's your name?
You are Teca.
We're going to ask for Teca.
I like Teca.
And here's the castle.
We don't need a castle.
We need a hobbit house.
That's it.
I've checked in.
So let's go now to my hobbit place.
Yes, this is my hobbit street.
Look at the view.
This must be a coffee plantation,
because this region is known for coffee growing.
So this is the view from my hobbit place.
Now, are you ready?
Okay, let's enter.
This is us.
So much space, right?
Look at this.
Up here, I have a bathroom.
Wow, everything's so modern and new.
I'm so happy I'm here.
So at the reception, they said they built it with a fiberglass and something.
I really, they couldn't explain it to me properly.
But here, here we have concrete.
So I reckon it's a fiberglass formwork and then filled with concrete somehow.
I'm not sure.
But whatever they did, they did a wonderful job.
I want one.
If I ever have a house, I want this house.
That's it.
I want to live in a hobbit house.
True story.
I feel like a real hobbit.
I made myself decent.
How's my hair?
It's raining.
But look, look.
Even just sitting here on the bed and looking at this, it's just so incredible.
So this is how it is to be a hobbit.
I get it now.
It's very nice to have a hobbit life.
I'm gonna miss this place so much.
Oh, this grass is so thick.
Unreal.
I want it.
One day when I settle down, I swear I'm gonna build a house like that.
Right, so we have a nice night of the morning.
We have a sunshine.
We're gonna roll into town and then I'm gonna stay in town for one night.
Go for a walk, get something to eat.
I think it would be nice for a change.
And then, I don't know, who knows.
But that's the plan for today.
We're not going too far.
So long.
I'm gonna miss you.
Be ready.
Today we have to do whole four kilometers.
Yep, it's a big day.
Big day.
Leah, are you ready?
Gosh, she's ready.
Here we go.
It was nice to meet you.
Bye.
Auf Wiedersehen!
Okay, chilly.
We have a beautiful weather.
Okay, so I really like this part of the town.
And there is a hostel very close by.
So let's check this hostel first.
Because the most important thing is, chilly, to have parking.
Okay, well, apparently there's another one.
Sueños.
Oh, this one doesn't have a space for chilly.
This one maybe?
This one doesn't have one either.
Okay, well, let me think.
There's one more we need to see.
I think it's a hotel, not a hotel.
From the pictures, it looks promising.
We're gonna be sort of on the outskirts.
Therefore, most likely we will have a spot here.
Okay, there is a possibility, I think, of parking inside.
But first, I guess I need to go and talk to them.
We're in.
Look at this.
28 dollars.
All of that mine.
Oh, wow, wow, wow.
I didn't want to touch it because it was all wet.
How's my hair?
Right, well, it stopped raining.
The mountains look very dramatic.
Well, you don't see them, actually.
Because above here, there are mountains, I think.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they are, they are, they are.
Actually, nobody can see them.
The whole town is very small.
So, I think no matter where you stay, everything is close by.
Yeah, sorry, I'm crossing the road.
The roads are so wet.
Right, we're nearly, we're nearly there.
We're nearly on the main street.
Just give me a sec.
We are at the main square.
Well, I call it main square.
I'm not sure if it's the main square.
But it looks quite central to me now.
Where should we go for lunch?
We better hurry, the rain is coming.
Like, rain is right there.
And it's raining.
Yep.
Anyhow, I've got a good feeling about this, this one.
Maybe we should eat a burrito or something.
There's like a burrito place.
Let's check it out.
I don't know how to manage this.
I have to cover my camera and I have to cover myself.
With this tiny mini umbrella, my round-the-world umbrella.
Still raining, but not as heavily.
So, I'm taking this opportunity to head back and just relax.
Yeah, my meal was very nice.
It was very loud, so I couldn't record much.
Because of the rain.
You know what I mean.
Anyhow, we're heading back.
This is it.
This is my journey back home.
And I'm back to my room and I thought I'll never say this.
Guess what?
I'm cold.
I feel like wearing a jumper.
Oh my god, dream come true.
