This guided meditation brings energy, positivity, and focus to your day. Named The Light, this meditation is perfect for use first thing in the morning, setting your day up by injecting spirit, motivation, and vitality.
Guided by therapist Adele Burdon-Bailey from the Priory Wellbeing Centre Manchester, use this re-energising meditation to help cope with feelings of anxiety and negative thoughts that cloud your morning routine.
Find a quiet, peaceful place where you won't be disturbed.
This is your time, so make the most of it. Turn off your phone, perhaps hang a Do Not
Disturb sign on the door, and really give yourself over to the peace and serenity
that is always ready and waiting for you deep within when we meditate.
Find a comfortable position, either lying down or sitting on a comfortable chair,
whichever feels best for you today. Take a few slow, deep breaths,
bringing your awareness fully to the present moment. Breathe in deeply and as you exhale,
come fully into your body. Breathe in deeply and as you exhale,
let go of any busy thoughts preventing you from tapping into yourself today.
They're not important right now, I'll deal with them later.
Take another slow, deep breath, and know that it is okay to relax, to let go, and you are safe.
Take another slow, deep breath, and as you breathe out, know that you are where you are
right now, and all is well in this moment. I'll begin the guided meditation in a moment.
As I mention each part of the body, I invite you to bring your awareness to it,
and to allow yourself to relax as deeply as you are able.
As we do a brief body scan, if you encounter tension anywhere, simply notice it curiously
and allow it to melt away as easily as warm water melts ice. But there's no pressure here.
If you're not able to let go right now, don't worry about it. It will come in time.
Just revisit this meditation and it will happen naturally without you having to force it.
Let's begin. Starting at the top of your head,
notice your scalp and allow it to relax completely. Notice the skin of your forehead
and temples and let go of any tension there. Allow your eye muscles to release and your jaw
to soften. Notice your ears, nose and throat, chin, teeth and tongue and let them relax.
Notice whether the sensations in those areas have changed.
Notice whether they feel tight and tense or are heavy and relaxed.
Allow that peaceful feeling to flow down your neck. Feel it soothe your throat and dissolve
any tension as it glides down to your shoulders, upper arms, forearms, wrists and hands.
Let this peaceful sensation of heaviness begin to fill your torso.
Feel it relax your chest, giving your heart more room to be expansive and accepting.
Soften your belly muscles and perhaps let this relaxation penetrate even deeper
by imagining it releasing any tension in your internal organs.
Now let the sensation wrap around you, enveloping you in calm and peace as it softens the shoulder
blades and all the muscles along your back all the way down to the base of your spine,
releasing any tension and discomfort along the way.
Continue to breathe in deep, fluid breaths. Breathe in health, happiness and harmony.
Breathe out any tension, allowing anything that does not serve you to leave your body.
Don't worry if you can't let go in this area. It will come in time.
Just accept things are as they are and move on.
Send this peaceful feeling into your hips and bum. Let it glide gently down your thighs,
relaxing your legs completely as it flows down to your knees, to your calves, to your ankles
and to your feet. Allow any remaining tension from anywhere in your body
to flow out of your toes, leaving your whole body feeling heavy, peaceful and relaxed.
Continue to take slow, deep breaths, feeling your belly rise on the inhale and fall on the exhale.
Notice how the air feels cooler as you breathe in and warmer as you breathe out,
breathing in and breathing out, breathing in and breathing out.
Now imagine a golden glowing ball of light about a foot above the crown of your head.
On an inhalation, breathe the light in through the top of your head,
through the centre line of your body, right down to the tailbone.
On exhalation, breathe the light back up the way it came and out the top of your head.
We'll do this twice more. As you inhale, breathe the light in through the top of your head,
through the centre line of your body, right down to the tailbone.
As you exhale, breathe the light back up the way it came and out the top of your head.
As you inhale, breathe the light in through the top of your head,
through the centre line of your body, right down to the tailbone.
As you exhale, breathe the light back up the way it came and out the top of your head.
Begin to focus on the base of your spine and visualise a vibrant, dense,
glowing ball of warm light. This area is thought by some to be connected with health.
Feel the light empower you as it connects you to the earth. You are radiating power and vitality.
Breathe in the light. Breathe in the light.
Now we move to the area between the base of your spine and your navel.
Again, visualise a vibrant, dense, glowing ball of warm light and breathe in the light.
Allowing it to fill you with the warmth and love connected to this area.
Now we move to an area a few inches above your navel.
Visualise a beautiful, glowing ball of dense, warm light. Breathe in the light and feel it
expand your joy, self-worth and gratitude connected to this area.
Then picture the glowing ball of warm light in the middle of your chest.
Breathe in the light and let it fill you with love, compassion and self-acceptance.
Feel the beauty in the world. Feel your heart swell with compassion
and forgiveness for yourself and others. All is well right now.
Now gently move up to your throat. Breathe in the light and visualise yourself communicating
with the truth and wisdom and confidence connected with this area.
Next, move to the centre of your forehead. Visualise a beautiful, glowing ball of warm
light. As it glows, feel it expanding your inner knowing and wisdom connected with this area.
Feel fully supported by the universe as you pursue your highest path.
See yourself living your ideal in the personal growth area of your life,
whatever that means to you. Then move up to the top of your head.
Breathe in the light and let it glow as it brings gifts of self-knowledge,
spiritual connection and bliss connected with this area.
See yourself living in wisdom and awareness,
contributing to the world in the way most meaningful for you.
Finally, I invite you to picture the areas we have visited,
all glowing simultaneously with vibrant, dense, warm light.
You drink the light into these areas and the light flows from you in a vibrant explosion of intense
light, each of the areas giving to the others so that you are ablaze in warm light that soothes
and comforts you, re-energises you and fills you with all good things. Feel yourself luxuriating
in the power of the light, bathing in it until it occupies every cell of your body
and fills you to the brim with all that you need right now.
Gently allow the light to subside. You are left with a warm glow that inhabits and surrounds you
and that you can take with you wherever you go.
In a moment, we're going to bring this meditation to a close.
First, I invite you to thank yourself for giving yourself the time to meditate for these moments.
Take a slow, deep breath, and as you breathe out, come back into your body.
Notice your fingers and toes, perhaps wiggling them gently. Notice yourself sat on the chair
or lay down. Take another slow, deep breath, and as you breathe out, gently open your eyes.
