of bonsai on display and for sale it's going to be awesome so if you're in Melbourne or in
Victoria come down for the drive you won't you won't be disappointed it's going to be an amazing
show as every year amazing trees on display so if you're in Melbourne Victoria come down and visit
I'll be there and doing some demonstrations as well so look forward to seeing you all. Okay so
I'm at the Vietnamese Bonsai Club show in Melbourne here in Victoria and I'm welcomed by this Banyan
fig first up uh had there was lots of um these kings will box um on display as well the enemies
actually really enjoy these look they're almost topiary style um in landscapes so that was quite
cool so we'll take you through a tour of the Vietnamese show up here on stage I had some of
the better trees um so let's go through each one first one was this Bougainvillea um really nice
base and movement trunk there's a little maple here so it's autumn here in Melbourne everything's
changing color a five trunk uh Japanese maple here on display you can see the beautiful reds
coming through this is an oak oak was pretty cool to see so it's quite large this triple trunk
Chinese elm was interesting I've seen this tree before so nice to see all the trunks in there
little little elm as well occurred to me Tony Esther up on stage two then we've got these
honeysuckle I've seen this tree before in the show it's always interesting to see it with the flowers
there's the overall display of the show let's go through each aisle starting with these small ones
at the front there's more kings will box as mentioned they really do like them in the club
these are some of the smaller trees paracantha so I don't know what this was it's very cute
could be a berberus little black pine little black pine as well not bad that tree I think
the probably the angle's not right little landscape look at Tony Esther again it's nice little trees
then we've got a maple and a pine over rock and finishing off another rhodo rock
shimpaku that was I believe now we'll come through the main aisles let's start with the shimpaku
juniper here interesting trunk nice trees interesting junipers bermuda here
create straight trunk and then lots of foliage at the top
katoni esther they love the katoni esthers because of the berries this was a nice try to
maple really nice reds uh needs more branching work but it's a nice base nice taper uh interesting
one of the nicer trees in the display they do like these cedars in the vineries club
some more trees here another black pine this is a black pine and shimpaku so lots of
lots of interesting trees swing around to this side which I missed another elm as I said their
blue cedars are very popular and they're very interesting to to to see more trees here some
nice little trees that one's a cute one too some minis on display good design this is a cute little
twisted up black pine a bit more interesting that one more cedars they really do love their cedars
as I mentioned another tree can't remember all their names black pine over rock that was interesting
this was a nice little uh could be a very small cedar there was no name on it I believe um or a
let's swing around to the other aisles and get through these trees
some more big trees maple in a triangular form I'm gonna make very large that's a kingswood box
katoni esther lots of trees on display I'm just going through these pretty quick this
was nice carving work on this olive had to stop here for a bit the carving work was quite
exceptional really nice detail nice hollows very good also this one must be the same I don't know
because that looks like identical carving and they're both olives so really good to work on
olives in that sense some more nice trees swing around the other side very tall tree
just enjoy the views cedars honeysuckles coming up now this tree one coming up is a
anyway this tree one previously my best in show it's still there it looks brilliant
and ash sorry desert ash it's pretty amazing one of the best trees that's one best in show before
for me I can't give an award because if it's one in a board before I can't redo and give an award
this is a nice blue cedar interesting one of the better blue cedars on show some more trees at the
enjoy the view let's move around to the last part stage this is a scots pine which was nice
little maples here change in color a little elm of the pine this is awesome this this olive this
also won best in show previous occasions so I can't really give it an award again so there's
two trees that got best in show back in the show and then looking brilliant there's a plum here
with plums on it a purple looks really cool I think I would have got a lot of attention that
tree more trees to admire jade very large seen this in the show before more trees lovely color
on this group really cool tree I'm just going to swing around now to the other side this blue
cedar was quite nice is what was probably featured in this spot the black background
because of the base very gnarly interesting pyracantha in the corner there with berries
now we're coming up to some interesting trees so that's a really long little rider cascade
a lovely group of maples but then this pine caught my attention nagara style exposed roots
I have not seen this tree before probably a bit too early to show it needs a lot more work
but that the best feature is those roots and the rest is um needs more work but the
is cool to see the nagara style the exposure is that's a huge issue with that reverse tape
of the on that branch so really great potential on that tree this is also very unusual red pine
it's got this really low branch um growing out from a base so yeah it's interesting very cool
pretty cool but yeah there's a lot more time to develop some more cool little trees
got this large fig that had a old photo of it next to it
some more color changing trees including this linden which is pretty cool and a pyracantha
to finish this section so move down the other aisle the one I missed which is down this way
smaller trees on display lots of cedars they're very fun very popular different types of cedars
as well this little maple caught my attention quite well rumified on the rock very cute little
tree very skinny but very cute nice little tree there yep more cedars lovely little maple
beautiful reds this is a could be a spruce or a cedar of some sort they do like their honeysuckle
creek view there's one more tree but people were at the tree so I had to come back to it
so the last three trees this raft style english elm carved out lying on its side
re-grew the trunks very well rumified very interesting I have seen this tree before
so it is quite nice to see it again these couple little english elms also very nice very cute
so a bit of an elm station so best tree in show goes to the raft style elm first time I'm giving
this award beautiful tree really stand out it just happened to be the last trail I videoed as
well brilliantly done cry raft looks really good the carving is good the ramifications excellent
really interesting lots of work into that tree lots of ramification very naturally styled
no triangular shapes and stuff like that a natural elm style which is really really cool
second probably goes to this maple trident it's needs more ramification does have a small bulge
at the base which I didn't like but really nice colors and probably my honorable mention
okay let's go and have a look at the sales area so there's lots of stuff for sale I did just do
just quick skim today you can just see some prices as we go there's lots of little things
reasonably priced um I've just got too many trees I'm not buying anymore um there were some real
good bargains in the olive section so if you wanted olives they were going at ridiculously
low prices but they're big so probably took up your whole car's boot space um besides that that
was a cute little persimmon I believe some azaleas a nice little elm there which was quite expensive
I mean um maple over a hundred dollars which is a little expensive but quite nice
lots of different trees as I said I'm just going to do a quick walk through this year
don't want to get into detail if you see the price you see the price they were reasonable
you know from you know fifty dollars to up to a few thousand mostly some nice little
lots of other trees big pine there some really you know big stock grown too
interesting trees lots of things happening you see the prices on some of these
a bit of everything a bit of selling going on so quite fun and lots of talking I had a lot
people come up for advice as well even though I'm not a member of the club I was happy to help
it's good to help people looking for trees and what they're looking for
and I'm giving them advice which is great always always happy to help
so no problem asking me questions the shimpakas were cute these were nice little shimpakas down
here spotted them early probably 30 or 40 dollars if not too bad for lots of trees so if you made
down to the vietnamese show what congratulations it was it was a good stock area the exhibition
I've seen better to be honest they've had better trees in the exhibition so just just a bit of a
nothing negative but just very constructive feedback there were some growers weren't there
who I'm normally used to so it's probably something's happened unfortunately so some
of the people I normally see trees stalled in the exhibition weren't there so maybe that that's
probably the key why there wasn't as much better material on display so yep the sales area was
quite good that little maple 18 hundred dollars which was quite one of the more expensive trees
but I'll get you to the stock area where I thought the olives were really really cheap
um somewhere 80 dollars in our monsters you know some really good triple trunk very big base for
250 so very interesting trees these are just nice little easy ones to take home but some of these
olives were just ridiculous that huge one there you go I can see the price pretty easy to see
some better better style trees some large trees here I think that that olive was like 90 dollars
that leaves a really cool 250 so very well priced
uh I think that maple was about 350 yeah that maple there was $80 so really interesting trees
