My first mod / upgrade to my Harley Vrod is a much needed additional to ALL v-rods! They certainly didn't make the battery to be super easily accessed. I found this out when my battery was dead. So now it has a quick connect that is easy access and it's on a trickle charge to help keep the battery maintained.

Got to take the airbox off, take my two side panels off, so a lot of work just to get to a battery.
Repetition from my chest, that's a bench press.
Seeing more behind the frame, future driver feel the shake.
Thinking ain't nobody feel the way I do, but someone got to feel the same.
On the bright side, yeah this music here became my only lifeline.
Think I'm going crazy, I'm not in my right mind.
Welcome to my life, welcome to my life, yeah.
Welcome to my life, welcome to my...
All right, time for a little V-Rod.
Look, I got my license when we lived down in Florida, so I went to Sarasota, did a riding course.
It was great, but it was a small bike.
This is a big heavy bike, wider tire, maneuvering's a little different.
So I've been kind of trying to get my balance,
just doing some slow maneuvering in like parking lots, riding into the neighborhood.
I went to go ride this morning, and it wouldn't crank.
I went to go try to charge the battery.
The battery's not just easy accessible, so I started having to do some research,
and I think most people have like little plugs where they can
put their little battery charger, battery tenders to it.
From what I could tell, I could not find one on this one,
and I had to do a little research to figure out even how to get to the battery.
I've already taken it all off.
As you can see, you have to take the air box off,
which most motorcycles, that's where the gas tank is, right up here.
And then I had to take my two side panels off.
So a lot of work just to get to a battery.
So here's the battery.
And again, I bought this bike used.
It already has some customizations.
I don't even know what a stock is supposed to look like,
much less one that has been customized some.
Now this does have the air ride system.
So I think this right here is actually the pump.
Again, from what I can tell, there's no battery tender plug.
So that's what I'm about to do.
So I went to Harbor Freight, got one of these little cheaper battery maintainer floaters
where I can just plug it in, leave it kind of tending.
I want to take the whole tank slash air cover off every time I need to charge the battery.
I'm going to do all the customization at some point.
I actually do have some of this stuff right here and I got some more goodies.
I won't show it to you now,
but I do have some plans that I do want to do some customization on this bike.
That's really why I got the bike and I love the look of them.
I love the customizations of them.
So I can't wait to do some pretty cool stuff with this thing.
But before I get to all that, let's figure out how to do this.
So look at everything over.
It does not look like there is any little battery tender cable to plug into.
So it's really kind of surprising.
I just, again, I don't know enough about motorcycles,
but I would think that'd be one of the things that you want to do,
especially if your battery is not easy to get to.
So here's the little cable connector that came with the battery tender.
So I'm going to connect these to the battery.
I'm probably supposed to take all this off,
but honestly I can get just into these nuts without taking all this off.
So that's all I'm going to do.
I mean, the only wires that I see that I took off,
it looks like it went to the pump, to the hydraulic,
and then goodness gracious at all these cords and plugs and
kind of module front signal that may be these additional lights
or even the lights in the rear.
I don't really know.
Again, I'm not sure what stock is supposed to look like.
So maybe you guys can help me out.
Tell me in the comments.
But that is a whole bunch of wires right there.
So probably what I'll do is come on this other side and fish it out this way.
I just got to take the positive off, add these,
and then we'll fish the wires through.
All right.
Get the positive off.
I'm going to change the placement.
This battery actually has a spot on top and on the backside.
And for some reason, the negative was up top.
The positive was on the side.
And I think it's a whole lot easier to access if it's on top.
Man, that thing's hard to get.
Well, that was a little more difficult than it should have been.
I was just trying to change that nut was on the side hitting this box.
So I wanted to put it on top, which I don't know that may interfere with the box on top.
We'll see.
There was a whole lot easier to get to, but this cable was so bent.
I just had to bend it finally to get it to go down in there.
So everything is attached.
Not real sure where I'm going to run this to.
Probably going to bring it on down.
I know it's dark and everything's black,
but I'll probably bring it down somewhere down in here where I can just plug into and charge.
And it'd be out of the way.
All right, I'm going to start putting things back together and hopefully it works.
You can see a little better on this side.
So it's got three bolts there, two on the front and not much that it attaches to.
And again, when I do the new body kit, I don't think I'm even going to be using these.
And again, this one's a V-Rod muscle.
So I think the muscle is a little bit different.
These little side skirts, three bolts there.
Two bolts on top.
Again, two bolts and then your three bolts.
So just tighten those up and let's crank it.
See what she does.
All right, let's see if it'll crank.
So it cranks, but that doesn't mean too much.
The true test will be, does the maintainer actually do its job?
So I'm going to plug that up right now and we'll see how it goes.
All right, let's plug it up.
Says it's charging.
So we'll come back later and check and see if it's green light and maintaining.
Fished it through the front right here.
And then what I'll do is I'll just push it back up in there.
I wanted it to come down here, but it's such a tight fit in here.
Couldn't really get it.
So there's a little cutout here in front of the little radiator.
So that'll work.
All right.
Easy enough, guys.
Stay tuned for some more upgrades coming in the near future.
I waited about 10 minutes, came back out.
Looky, looky.
Green light.
Means it's maintaining.
Means it's working.
Success.
