Have you ever spent hours getting ready, you've listened to all the advice, read all the magazines,
you've done everything you can to feel super sexy, super sensual, and you get to the end of it and
you just feel kind of ridiculous? I used to experience this all the time. I would put on
red lipstick, put on a little black dress, make my hair curly, and I would feel like a clown.
After spending the last three years learning all about different style systems, I have finally
learned that there are different things that make different people look their most sensual.
There are seven unique beauty types and each one has different ways to enhance their more
sexy flirtatious side. In this video I'm going to break down seven case studies of seven
sensual women that you know and love from each of the different beauty types. My name is Ellie Jean,
I help women identify and enhance their unique beauty to become the most radiant version of
themselves. I am also the author of this book, How to Dress Your Best, which is available now.
It walks you through finding the clothes you love, finding what suits you, what works for your unique
features, as well as how to put it all together and create a wardrobe that really works for you.
There are seven essences. The essence system has been developed by a variety of people,
starting with someone called Harriet McGimsey. In the 60s she created this idea that there were
yang types such as dramatic, natural, and gamine, classics, ingenues, and romantics, and a little
later John Kitchener introduced the angelic or ethereal essence. So they are kind of known today
as Kitchener essences but they have this long history. If you want to know more about finding
which one is you, you might want to check out this video which helps you to find your face type.
So let's start with dramatics. Dramatics typically have bold, powerful, intense features. So my example
of a dramatic is Sandra Oh. She has dramatic, ethereal, and classic essences. The dramatic
features she has quite a long face with a kind of sharp nose, and if she tries to wear typical
romantic details such as bold red shades, low necklines, extravagant florals, she feels overwhelmed,
she feels a little bit odd, it feels kind of forced against her. When I think Sandra Oh and sexy
together, I think of Eve in Killing Eve when Villanelle sends her the black and white dress.
This was such an iconic moment in the series and it really shows this completely different side
of Eve that Villanelle is bringing out through this gift of clothing where suddenly Eve is seeing
herself as this very powerful, sexy woman and is very confused by the whole thing. So this dress
incorporates many dramatic elements such as the sharp halter neck, the high contrast, the sharp
structured lines in the pattern. Even though the dress is clingy to Sandra Oh's frame, the fabric
itself has quite a lot of structure to it. It's not soft and draped, it's quite sharp and upright
almost. Some other things that we see Sandra Oh do in the rest of her outfits is lean into dangerous
imagery. I love this dress where she incorporates a snake print. This is very dramatic, it's got
that element of danger, of sharpness. Even though it's like a rounded line, the imagery, the vibe
is one of danger. Again, just sharp lines and fitted shapes. Hard surfaces and sequins. So I
was thinking hard surfaces. I was trying to find a photo of her with some kind of metallic bangle
or something but I couldn't find one. But she does incorporate a lot of sequins into her look,
possibly because she has ethereal as well. Like that hard plane is very dramatic and you can see
how it makes her look really sensual. Bold makeup. Dramatics can go really bold on their makeup and
look really sensual, whereas other types get overwhelmed by this and look clownish. Whereas
a dramatic can wear a bold lip, a bold eye, a really sculpted face with lots of contour for
instance and look incredible. Also just long hair I feel is very sensual for dramatic. It's not the
only thing they look good in. There are a lot of dramatics for instance like Tilda Swinton that
can take really short hair. But there are different kinds of effects that you
want to create and this feminine one, you kind of have to find the intersection between what
works with dramatics and what is your typical sensual look. And I feel like for dramatics, long
hair really is that. So the longer the hair the better really. Sandra Oh has incredible hair.
Whenever I watch Grey's Anatomy I'm just basically fixated on her hair the whole time.
And she really leans into that by having her hair down and flowing a lot of the time. Also long
lines. Sandra Oh looks more sensual in long dresses than short ones for instance. One of the most
important aspects for me to feel more sensual, feel more alluring, more in that romantic side of myself
is the way that I smell. Wild is a natural brand which create refillable products like deodorants,
lip balms, body wash and they have very kindly sent me these products. This is one of the most
incredible smelling products I've ever owned. It's like kind of fruity. According to the brief it has
notes of champagne so it's very Valentine's Day friendly but it's honestly just a very fruity
rich smell. It's absolutely beautiful. And how cute is this packaging? You get this box that you
get to keep for life as long as you want to keep using the product which I think is absolutely
incredible. And I love the love hearts. They're so Valentine's Day coded. They're just so so
beautiful. I'm so obsessed with them and I will feel very proud to have this on my dressing table
for years to come. But also they sent me these incredible lip balms. It's just the most delicious
smell. Feels good too. And these also have the love hearts on so they're absolutely perfect for
this time of year. It comes in cardboard so essentially you just remove the paper slip,
pop it in. It's so easy. I always thought maybe these are really complicated. They're not. It's
the easiest thing in the world and you get to keep these forever. So it's just a really beautiful
accessory that you can have. So you could get yourself one of these as a treat for Valentine's
Day. Get yourself in that kind of romantic spirit. Have some accessories in your dressing room but
also it could be a really good gift for your mum or a Galentine's gift because Valentine's Day is
about celebrating all the different kinds of love in your life and I see no reason why you shouldn't
give these to a friend. Smell is such an important part of feeling romantic so if I'm going on a date
with my boyfriend I like to spray my favourite perfume, try to make myself feel nice and I feel
like these would be the perfect addition to that general kind of date night routine. So if you want
to feel your best as Valentine's Day using WILD you can purchase products using my code ELLIEJEAN.
The code gives you 20% off all WILD products for a limited time so don't wait too long to go and
use it. Thank you so much to WILD for being a partner for this video. Naturals. Naturals typically
have a kind of grounded, easygoing, down-to-earth, chill vibe and for me a natural that has a very
sensual energy is Blake Lively in Gossip Girl as Serena Van Der Woodsen. She has a mix of natural,
dramatic and again kind of ethereal essences. I've tried to pick people that don't have romantic
essence, um there are a couple there are a couple where they do have romantic as well but um I've
tried to pick people that don't to show that you don't have to have romantic essence in your mix
to feel sexy and sensual. So again in tight, restricted lines, so kind of like your typical
curvy looks, um Blake Lively doesn't shine. She looks kind of stiff and restricted, almost officey.
She doesn't look very sexy in that kind of feel. Instead Blake looks her most sensual when she
leans into the messy. I love this photo of her where she's got long flowy hair, it's a little
bit messy, she's got flyaways, it doesn't matter. If anything it makes her look even more sensual
and even more mature. That kind of beachy feel is very good for naturals who want to lean into
their kind of more feminine um energy. Relaxed and easy. Now I know I know she's playing like a minor
here and it's a schoolgirl outfit so you know take that with a pinch of salt but her uniform in
Gossip Girl is um kind of stripped down, it's made more relaxed and easy. She's got her tie undone,
everything's a little bit undone and that's supposed to kind of emphasize that energy that
Serena is supposed to have. So on the red carpet we'll often see Blake Lively with again that kind
of messy undone hair, um dresses which have a little bit of flow to them that look really easy.
Like I really liked this look which is actually a jumpsuit which has an extra layer to it and like
this looks really comfortable. It looks really comfy but that makes it look even more glam or
sexy against Serena. Serena against Blake. Asymmetric lines, anything kind of off the
shoulder is really going to create that more sensual feel as well for natural types. Animal
print, like leopard print, um zebra print, any kind of natural floral pattern. So nothing too
glamorous like a rose, that wouldn't be very sensual for this kind of type but kind of smaller
in a way, more muddy floral patterns, kind of like anything a little bit more tribal is going to
kind of take that sexy like romantic feel without being too romantic which isn't her essence.
Um natural jewellery, this is a natural recommendation in general but like kind of
wooden beads, bangles, layered necklaces, um all of this can have quite a sexy vibe because it's got
that easy feel to it, that kind of relaxed and chill. I feel like we've talked a lot about hair
when it comes to naturals and I feel like hair is actually a big thing generally but voluminous,
messy, beachy hair is great for naturals. And you can see that in slightly more glam,
kind of like classically glam lines, Blake looks a little bit more forced. I mean she still looks
beautiful because she is beautiful but she doesn't have quite that same energy in these pictures. It
feels just a little bit more stiff, she feels maybe I want to say almost a bit more you know
unapproachable, um and just a little less enticing even though she's still beautiful.
Gamine. So gamine is like a really different energy um because they're quite youthful,
they're quite boyish in a way, kind of like Audrey Hepburn, there's something a little bit
cheeky about them and that's what you want to lean into. Zendaya has a mix of gamine,
romantic and dramatic essences. So with Zendaya, Zendaya has never looked bad a day in her life
but I do feel that in more sweet, soft, feminine looks or even like classic glam looks, she does
a lot of classic glam looks, I feel like they feel they're almost like they're for the girls
rather than kind of appealing to that male gaze, to that sensual feel. Even though they're really
typical sensual looks, they feel like a fashion choice, they feel like they're a reference to
an older time rather than just kind of melting into her appearance. But she looks her most flirty
when she leans into that boyish look. So here in this tennis inspired outfit for challenges,
I think she looks really sexy, really flirty, really fun and sensual even though she's not
wearing like a classic glam look. Anything a little bit playful, anything with kind of
colours and contrast also leans into her particular energy that's appealing about her.
Short lines sometimes look more sensual in long lines, some look more sensual in short lines and
gamines is one of those. So anything cropped or short like a short skirt or a crop top will feel
kind of sexy and womanly against them. Patterns, anything with a fun pattern is going to feel
more mature against a gamine and this was one I wasn't 100% sure about because it's not a typical
like sensual thing. I would say it's like least on the list but I think gamines always pretty much
have to have some kind of pattern in their look or they fall a little a little flat. Essentially
they want to lean into like a fun energetic spirit that's youthful and carefree. This was one of my
favourite outfits of Zendaya's and it's pre kind of fashion Zendaya but it just feels so right
against her like she's got that literal bow, she's showing a little bit of skin in the shoulders,
she's got those tight trousers. It's got something a little bit edgy to it but it's also fun and
playful but she looks really really sensual and really cute. And again of course contrast,
anything colourful and bright like I loved her in this bright pink. I think that makes her look
much more striking and it makes that kind of sensual fabric feel more right against her and
all together it comes across as really sexy. Classic. Someone for me who really embodies
a kind of feminine energy who's a classic is Kristen Davis playing Charlotte in Sex and the City.
Kristen has a mix of classic, ingenue and dramatic essences. She's been a big inspiration for me
recently. I absolutely love her style. In more typical sexy looks she looks maybe a little more
immature and doesn't really, if anything it makes her look quite harsh even in this last picture.
She doesn't have that Madonna-esque romantic feel so it looks quite intense and gaudy against her
so that's not the way that someone with classic essence is going to try and look more sexy.
Instead they want to lean into the timeless so for a classic I think little black dress. No fuss,
no frills. The thing with classics is the fabric needs to let your face do the talking,
like it needs to let you shine because you're overwhelmed by detail and so the more,
sorry, the less detail you incorporate into your outfit the more sensual you're going to feel and
the more striking you're going to feel. So anything simple is going to be in in favour for a classic
like Kristen Davis in this pink dress I think looks absolutely adorable. It's got some soft
details but ultimately it's not overwhelming and it's very modest but still she looks really sexy.
I was so surprised I couldn't find a picture of Kristen Davis in pearls but I'm sure she
wears them at some point on Sex and the City, again relying on my editor here. But yeah,
pearls, whether that be a pearl necklace, pearl earrings, these will make a classic look really
timeless and really sensual. And similarly kind of classic kind of gold or silver jewellery of
moderate weight. When I think classic I think like your typical Cartier watch. It's not flashy,
it's very elegant and understated. It's that moderate weight and it's pure metal, it's not
got anything flashy about it. That's very classic and again that will make your features come
forward and feel more sexy. Low contrast, again you look the most sensual when you haven't got a
lot of detail, haven't got a lot of pattern because you can shine. I feel like it's particularly
important for classics in a way to lean into their colour season and I know that sounds strange
because surely it's important for everyone and it is but I feel like for classics especially because
their face has to fight so much for detail with detail that any little mistake in a classic's
outfit becomes immediately obvious. Any fly away, any wrinkled shirt becomes obvious. So I feel like
if anything colour season really matters to them. I feel like for classic essence as well,
leaning into your neutrals, so the neutrals from your season is a really good thing to do. Nothing
too striking, like I do feel even though Kristen Davis is a winter, I do feel like in that bright
pink that I showed earlier, it does somewhat overwhelm her even though it's kind of in her
colours. It just doesn't quite fit her vibe. If anything, I mean to be fair that colour could be
slightly bright against her. It's quite spring pink actually, just ever so slightly it's probably more
of a bright winter than her kind of winter. But even so, I feel like the bright colour somewhat
conflicts against her classic essence as well. So I feel like keeping those colours as soft as
possible within the context of your season. And also with hair, I feel like moderate length hair,
clean hair, whether that be up or down is what's going to look the most sensual on you and Kristen
Davis to me has perfect classic hair. Oh and quality fabrics, so anything that feels good
quality will let you shine more as a classic. Ethereals. When I think of a sensual ethereal,
I think of Rosamund Pike. She was a Bond girl, she's so sensual in Gone Girl, that was Bond
Girl and Gone Girl. I feel like because I've got a cold they both became the same word, Bond Girl,
Gone Girl. She was a Bond Girl and in Gone Girl, and in both she has that kind of sensual feel,
that very magnetic attraction. Rosamund Pike has ethereal, dramatic and classic essences.
Anything overly flashy instantly feels forced, like I was thinking about this floral dress,
it just doesn't feel in harmony with her. It feels like a fashion choice, like an avant-garde choice
and you don't really see her face, you see those florals, whereas on someone like Sabrina Carpenter
if this dress were a bit shorter I could really see that, that working and just being like a part
of her vibe. Whereas it doesn't feel quite right with Rosamund. And again, that flashy sequin
just feels a bit gaudy against her and you don't see her features come to the forefront.
As an ethereal you want to prioritise long lines. Anything long, long hair, long dresses,
long skirts, long trousers are going to feel your most elegant, rather than short lines.
Anything short is going to feel again a little bit trashy and all that sexy against you,
whereas you look more striking in longer lines. And on that note, floaty fabrics,
anything that creates a floaty feel is going to feel absolutely amazing on you
and you're going to shine much more brightly in it. How many times can I say sensual or sexy
in this video? Someone should do a count, let me know below. Soft low contrast colours, again,
as much as your season will allow, have softer colours are going to be your kind of sexy.
They're going to let you shine more and they create that kind of otherworldly feel that's
going to make him fall to his knees. Long loose hair is going to be best, so you don't want
anything tight, any kind of like tight curls aren't going to be the way for you, you want to
be loose and flowy. Long dangly jewellery, anything with like a little bit of a crystal feel, anything
with a shine to it is going to look amazing and feel really harmonious with you. And you want your
makeup to have a little touch of shimmer, this will make you look really irresistible. And that
goes for your clothes as well, anything with a light sparkle, iridescence or sheen. Ingenue.
So ingenues have a kind of sweet, innocent feel and this type really struggles with feeling more
sexy and this is the type where I think you're most tempted to lean into the romantic and then
get overwhelmed and look even more childlike. So when I think ingenue, I think Lana Condor.
She has ingenue, gamine and classic essences and typical sexy or powerful lines feel a little gaudy
against her. I mean she looks really powerful and stunning in this purple top but it doesn't feel
quite right, it doesn't feel, it feels a little bit more like a costume and I don't think we're
getting that magnetic aura from her. Again in this more dangerous look like what we saw Sandra Oh in,
it somewhat overwhelms her and it doesn't bring out the best in her appearance. Whereas in a
little sparkle, this look still means quite romantic but I wanted to show it anyway,
in a little bit of sparkle she instantly looks more magnetic and alluring. And in this picture
where she's younger, again she looks really really stunning with that little bit of sparkle,
that little bit of sequin, that touch of youthfulness makes her look really alluring
and magnetic. Florals and puff sleeves, people with ingenue imagine this is going to make them
look like a child but look at Lana in this. That puff sleeve, that round neckline, that short skirt
makes her look so much more mature than trying to lean into romantic lines. She looks really
stunning here. Again soft colours, all of these yin types look amazing in soft colours and I love
this photo from her Instagram in that pale yellow. Even though it's not necessarily in her season, I
think they could whack up the brightness on that colour. The idea of a bright yellow which is quite
a youthful colour feels mature against her, it doesn't feel out of place with her and it makes
her look more elegant and timeless. A princess silhouette, here again she looks really sexy here
because she's leaned into that princess style and leaned into those small florals and she looks
much more mature and more sexy in that look. Lace, lace is the perfect harmony between romantic and
ingenue so any lace you can bring into your outfits the better. Whether it's just a trim,
a full lace dress, lean into the lace as much as you can. And short lines, ingenue is another type
where short lines are quite youthful and so they're going to bring out that more sensual side
of yourself because they're going to look so harmonious with you. Curly hair, definitely lean
into your curls, anything wispy, curly, small curls gonna look absolutely amazing on an ingenue.
And romantic, so romantics have the easiest deal with looking sensual in a way because they
naturally have that look. However, weirdly, by dressing in your typical romantic lines you're
gonna look more classic and timeless and it actually might take a lot of work. You're basically
going to need to double down on all the romantic elements to get across that you're trying to look
sexy in a way to create that kind of hyper sexy effect for you. So you're just going to want to
double down and it won't look overwhelming on you. You can add as many different kinds of romantic
elements into your look without looking overwhelmed. So someone for me who's really
romantic is Bianca Lawson. She has romantic, dramatic and ingenue. So when she leans into a
typical curvy silhouette, any kind of clingy clothes that cling to the chest and hips, she
looks really amazing. Rich royal colours, romantics can take deep reds, purples, blues, forest greens,
kind of think the dark winter palette but your version. It's kind of those typical stereotypical
dark winter colours but the version that works for your season. So in that red, do you see how she
almost doesn't look overly sensual because that just is her essence? But here where she's added
the sparkle in the red lip, she looks really stunning and striking. Soft glam hair, big curls
are going to look amazing on you. Ornate patterns. So instead of like small florals, I would lean into
like, kind of like baroque feeling prints. They will look amazing. Couldn't get photos of Bianca
but um, animal print, rounded animal print like leopard. I would avoid possibly like zebra print
but animal print leopard is going to look very sexy on you, very sensual, very womanly.
You can absolutely lean into your heels, try and keep them round-toed but yeah, heels gonna be
amazing for you, not gonna overwhelm you. Jewels. Layer up your jewels. Wear jewel earrings, jewel
necklaces, jewel bracelets, rings. Add as many jewels as you can to your outfit, add sparkle into your
clothes and you will look just fantastic. Fur. Whap on some fur, get a fur coat, anything fluffy, anything
fur is gonna look incredible. Soft fabrics. So Bianca in this pink dress, this is a really romantic
pink, that kind of deep pink but that soft fabric looks very sensual, very womanly against her.
And lace. Just like ingenues, you look incredible in lace. So add lace wherever you like. Another
good example of someone with romantic essence is of course Sabrina Carpenter who we're seeing a lot
at the moment and um, you could definitely find some examples of her in that animal print, heels,
jewels and she has a very sensual feel but she never gets overwhelmed by any of these details so
here are some photos of Sabrina in some of these romantic details that I just mentioned.
