Learn more about the free firmware updates to the EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50 cinema cameras in this helpful video.
Hi, I'm Paul Hawkshurst with Canon EOS A, and I'm here to talk about some new Cinema EOS firmware.
First, the EOS C400 camera will be adding auto exposure ramping compensation.
On certain zoom lenses, if the entrance pupil size doesn't mechanically compensate
for the change in focal length, you'll get the phenomenon known as iris ramping,
and you'll see the brightness of the image diminish as you zoom through to the telephoto
end of the lens. Many lenses will have this clearly marked on their barrels,
with indications of when the physical compensation ends and the ramping begins.
Auto exposure ramping compensation utilizes the metadata throughput of the lens to the C400,
which then interprets how to compensate for the light loss by using gain adjustments.
As these adjustments are done one-to-one in real-time, you will no longer see any loss
of light as you zoom through the full focal range of the lens. Support for camera control
over the USB-C is also coming to the EOS C400, C80, and C50 cameras. This will enable you to
control start-stop, iris, shutter speed, ISO, and focus via the controls on your gimbal.
Other updates in this firmware suite include compatibility support for the newly announced
CineServo 40-1200 lens in the EOS C400, C80, C50, R5C, and C70 cameras. View assist during playback
for the C50 and for the C400, C80, and C50 automatic reconnection of your SRT stream,
should it happen to be lost. On top of these, there are several more features included,
so for all the information and to download the updates when they are available later this summer,
