26 #japanesephilosophy#ikigai#zen I’ve re-uploaded this video due to some persistent audio issues with the background music that I couldn't fix. Thank you for your understanding.
"Is Ikigai really about doing what you love and getting paid for it?" If you've believed that, this video might completely change how you see life.
In this video, we dive deep into the Japanese philosophy behind Ikigai — a word often misunderstood outside Japan. Unlike the popular idea of productivity and purpose, true Ikigai in Japanese culture is not about success, money, or being useful to others. It’s about finding small, daily joys that give you the feeling of truly being alive.
You'll also learn how this concept connects with Zen, mindfulness, and Japanese traditional values, and why it may hold the key to living a richer and more meaningful life in today’s fast-paced world.
Whether you're searching for your purpose, slowing down to reconnect with yourself, or just curious about how to live like the Japanese, this video will offer new insights.

What is your ikigai? Japanese people have used the word ikigai for a very long time,
so many of us never stop to think about what it really means.
A lot of people say ikigai must be something you like, are good at, is needed by others,
and also you can be paid for. But the more you look for ikigai with those four rules,
Today, we ask what is true ikigai? Why is it important to find and grow it?
It might be easier to chase the four-rule ikigai. However, that is only a superficial ikigai,
not the real thing. If you want an ikigai that comes from deep inside your own heart
and stays strong, please watch to the end. On this channel, we dive deep into the history,
philosophy, and traditions of Japan. If you love Japanese culture,
don't forget to subscribe and join our journey.
Many people think ikigai is the spot where four things meet.
One, what you love. Two, what the world needs.
Three, what you are good at. And four, what you can be paid for.
Ask most Japanese and they will say, that's not ikigai. Real ikigai is something that gives you
a small feeling of joy and life every day, even if nobody praises you for it. It does not have
to be something someone wants or praises, and it does not have to be your special skill.
But if you believe those four points are ikigai, you may miss its most important part.
The biggest wall is benefit. As we grow up, we start asking, will this make money?
Will this help my future? We judge our actions by other people's opinions,
and soon the benefit becomes more important than what we truly want to do.
But an ikigai chosen only for benefit burns out when the benefit disappears.
Benefit is not under your control, so a fake ikigai can vanish no matter how hard you try.
True ikigai is simple. Do you feel even a little joy? Do you feel
truly alive each day when you do it? If yes, that is your ikigai.
For a long time, Japanese people have felt ikigai in their work. Work was not mainly
for money or promotion. Instead, it was a way to make someone happy, grow a little each day,
create better things, and look inside themselves. Income or title is only a superficial ikigai,
not a real one. The best situation is when you dive into your work for your own joy,
for others, and for the future. Then, numbers like money come as a result.
Research even shows that when people set only number goals, those goals soon lose power.
What matter is can you feel small joy while you work? Can you feel alive during the process?
Money in your hand or bigger numbers feel good for a moment. But if you chase only that thrill,
it turns into an addiction to quick wins. You start cutting corners, and when the result you
hoped for don't appear, your motivation drops. Ikigai is not a big number or a reason to live.
It is a feeling of life and joy inside the process itself. For Japanese people of the past,
work itself was life. That spirit still lives in Japan's fine skills, careful details,
and warm hospitality. One day in my iaido class, an older student, senpai, gave me an important
advice. I was in a hurry. I wanted to improve fast to reach my perfect self. Because of that,
I forgot to live being in the here now. He said, do not rush. Let's make efforts like adding thin
sheets of paper, one by one, every day. His words reminded me to stay calm, move step by step,
and listen to my own mind and body. Ikigai grows in the same way. Most of people will not suddenly
find a perfect ikigai that changes life overnight. Still, many of us hurry, saying,
I must find my ikigai right now. But ikigai has no single right answer, and it never starts at
Treat each day with care. Give thanks for the small moments in front of you.
Walk forward honestly, one small step at a time. Then, the seeds of ikigai will sprout and grow.
If you value this attitude, anyone can surely grow their own ikigai. Today, when everything
feels quick and easy, why not enjoy what looks slow and simple? Steady effort, day by day,
once again. For me, this YouTube channel and my work is pure ikigai. Sharing Japan's spirit
with many people fills me with joy. Today, quick results and easy success are popular.
