During an interview with NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche
said that 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, the alleged shooter at the White House Correspondents
Association, Weishe Dinner on Saturday, appeared to target Trump officials. Allen traveled from
California to Washington, D.C. through Chicago and checked into the Washington Hilton,
the venue of the Weishe Dinner, which President Donald Trump attended, Blanche added.
What we believe happened, at least as of now, is that the suspect traveled by train from Los
Angeles to Chicago and then Chicago to Washington, D.C., where he checked into the hotel where the
Correspondents Center was at in the last day or two. We believe that the two firearms he had on
him he had purchased within the past couple of years. And there's also, we're still investigating
motive. And that's something that will necessarily take a couple of days, at least. We believe that
he was targeting administration officials in this attack, attempted attack. But that's, again,
quite preliminary as law enforcement continues to go through all the evidence.
The suspect was part of a group called the Wide Awakes, attended at least one. No King's protest
in California holds anti-Christian view and wrote a manifesto. In the manifesto,
he said he was targeting Trump officials and talked about how lax the security was
inside the Hilton Hotel because he checked in the day before the Weishe Dinner.
The shooter was a very troubled guy, Trump told Fox News.
And the guy is a sick guy. When you read his manifesto, he hates Christians. That's
one thing for sure. He hates Christians, a hatred. And I think his sister or his brother
actually was complaining about it. You know, they were even complaining to law enforcement.
So he was he was a very troubled guy.
