Well, good morning! It is April 19th in Northern Michigan and mother nature decided to surprise us with some spring snow! The girls, Memphis, Kira, and Eleanor, were absolutely feisty this morning. Between the snowy zoomies and the loud morning "woos," it’s clear these Siberian Huskies are in their element whenever a dusting of white hits the ground, even if it is rapidly melting! We managed to catch Memphis zooming out the door on the security camera, and the girls definitely let us know that snow plus breakfast equals one very loud household.
After feeding the dogs, Jamie and I decided to go for a drive around Long Lake to see the extent of the flooding in our area. It is both beautiful and scary to see how high the water has risen. We visited the spot where my grandparents' old cottage used to be and saw creeks that have turned into rushing rivers. Some of the local cottages are completely surrounded by water, and we even saw where kids have been kayaking up to stop signs! We also stopped by Maple Ridge Park to check on the river and the "Indie Wiggles" made a special guest appearance to say hello to everyone.
We ended the day back home with some very sleepy but happy dogs. Since we were gone for a little bit exploring the floodwaters, the girls demanded their rewards! We’ve got sunset glows, bully stick chewing, and plenty of husky snuggles to go around. It’s a busy day of weather extremes here in Michigan, but as we always say: life is short, make memories with your dogs!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR DAY ❄️ Memphis and Kira get the snowy zoomies during an April snowstorm. 🥣 The girls give us some loud "woos" while waiting for their breakfast. 🌊 Driving around Long Lake to see the historic flooding and underwater roads. 🏡 Visiting the hill where Grandma and Grandpa’s old cottage still stands high and dry. 🗺️ Checking the map to find out we officially have "lakefront property" now. 🚫 Seeing the "Unstable Bridge" at Maple Ridge Park due to the rushing floodwaters. 🐕 A surprise visit with Miss Indie (the Wiggles are real!). 🍪 Cookie time and bully sticks for the girls after their long afternoon nap. 🌅 Eleanor looking absolutely stunning chewing her treat in the sunset glow.
We are seeing some crazy weather here in Michigan! Have you ever had snow this late in the spring where you live, or are you already enjoying the warm sunshine? Let us know in the comments!

Well, good, wonderful, beautiful morning Pawdience. The girls know that it is time to eat breakfast, but just as we thought...
there is...
snow, and I'm pretty sure I got some footage on the security camera of Memphis zooming in and out the door this morning.
Then I got a cute short little video as I was talking about the snow and
Memphis and Kira were trying to play.
April 19th in Northern Michigan.
Snow on the ground. What do you think?
Yeah, I know. The girls are like, um, hello mom.
It is breakfast time and you made our breakfast and we would like to go in and eat the breakfast.
Is that what you're waiting for?
I understand, but there was snow. Oh, is it making you feisty?
Whoa!
You can play with Memphis?
Is Memphis gonna play with you?
Is that what happens? Yeah, the snow happens and you all get crazy.
What is this?
And the woos. So we got woos. We got you trying to play. We got you trying to play.
All because...
there's a dusting of snow on the ground that is already rapidly melting.
You goofy girls.
And you were giving the woos. Yeah, look, they're gonna do it again. Yeah, you were giving the woos.
Yeah, yeah. Wow, she's feisty. Okay, I better feed these girls breakfast.
Okay, we'll feed you breakfast now. Feed you breakfast.
I don't think it's going to accumulate at all and what was already out here is gone. Ready? Three, two, one.
Look, it's snowing.
Can you see it?
Just barely.
But it is snowing.
Yeah, I think the lakefront property people are now in the lake. Yeah.
Jamie and I decided to go for a drive around Long Lake. We're not driving down this road. This is their road.
That is a one-eyes pond. Oh, grandma and grandpa's cottage is right up.
Well, their old cottage was right up on the hill and there was a one-eyed frog that lived in that pond.
That was one-eyes pond. So their cottage though, there's a hill right there and it was up on the hill.
I might pull up in the driveway and peek at it.
It's sad. These cottages are so old.
Ain't nobody in these right now. No, but still.
Some of these people have had these in their family for years.
Yeah, these people have no idea that their cottages are underwater. Again, I'm not driving through this but see that cottage on the hill?
That was grandma and grandpa's cottage.
This is where I came up north and played for weeks on end as a kid on Long Lake.
This is on the south end of Long Lake.
Yep, that was their cottage right there.
It's dry.
Because they're on top of a hill. On the other side of this cottage is a set of stairs that you have to go all
the way down to get to the lake.
So, yeah, but that was it.
This is supposed to be a creek.
It's just a creek. Yeah, here, let me take you. Okay, you take them.
So the creek is normally just in between here. That's, that's where the creek normally is.
All of this extra is not. It looks like a lake. Oh my lord.
It does. And then it's on your here.
Yeah, look.
It's on this side too.
Okay, let's roll the window back up.
It's a little cold out there. But yeah, it's on this side too.
That's crazy.
That's a lot of water.
So Long Lake is overflowing.
Most of the lakes in our area are overflowing.
Wow.
Now I want to say it. There's ice.
How high is the water, mama?
There is ice.
Still on the lake.
We're still on Long Lake.
We're just driving around the lake.
Yep, there is ice.
I like the sound of it.
Yeah, me too.
Now there's a little creek that comes out of Long Lake.
Completely flooded.
You know what's funny?
What?
You can see where people have built up the rocks there.
Probably to turn this into a little swimming hole.
Maybe. Or that's happened naturally.
Because that's a lot of water.
I bet they built it up for a swimming hole.
I want to go look on the other side.
Ah, it's wet. There's a car coming.
It's windy.
It doesn't sound as cool on this side.
No.
It's definitely going downhill.
There's a lot of water.
These are normally really small creeks.
They're not really small right now.
It's flowing.
You go tubing.
You go white water rafting down these right now.
It's pretty deep.
You can see.
It's probably where the rut was.
I had it for a second.
Freak out?
I had the wheels this way.
And it's like, you're going to go this way.
That water stinks.
Yeah, it does.
So we're going to keep on moving.
We're not driving through this.
But I would like to point out.
We're on a road.
There's a road.
And there's a street sign for another road.
I'm not going to share the photo.
But I'll tell you about it.
But there was a photo of one of these people that lives in these houses.
And their kids was kayaking.
And they can touch the stop sign.
So it has come down.
But...
That's kind of crazy.
There's the old school over there.
The old one room school.
Yeah.
We're not crossing this road.
We're going to turn around.
So that's the farm.
The building is on the top of the hill right there.
And we officially now have our own lakefront property.
On the map it shows...
Look! I can show it.
On the map it shows that there's water there and water here.
Look! There it is.
Not there very often.
But apparently we have a lake.
At least not all of it is flooded.
So we came out to Maple Ridge Park.
Hey hun, you want to go swing in the river?
Cause I'm pretty sure if you got on that swing set,
you're going in the water.
We have brought the dogs here for...
Oh! Squashy!
For swimming a few times.
Jamie got his fishing license today.
Yeah! You can see where the edge of the water is.
Where we usually stand
is so far out there.
Wow!
Yeah, there was.
I think it's under water.
While you do that,
I'm going to walk over here I think.
Oh! It's beautiful though.
Catch us dinner!
So this is the little bridge we normally go across
to get over to the little island
over there.
The island... I'm not crossing it.
But the island looks like it's full of water as well.
Look at how high the water is.
This is just
beautiful
but also scary.
Kind of like the ice storm.
Thanks Michigan for continuing to give us
mother nature in all her glory.
At least we try to respect
mother nature in all her glory.
Look at that water just rushing.
I'm pretty sure the bridge is still stable,
but I think it's...
What does it say? It says...
Please stay off bridge due to flood waters.
Bridge may be unstable. Maple Ridge Township.
Oh! Okay!
Yeah, I can see that. It looks like it's sitting good there
and sitting good on the other side, but I'm sure the water
was a little bit higher than this.
They might had some debris.
Beautiful!
This is a cute little park out here.
The internet messes your doggy day.
Oh! There's the Wiggles!
There's the Indy Wiggles!
Everybody wants to know how Indy was.
I got so many comments the other day
about Indy and Stuart.
You look okay to me!
Hi!
She's like, open up your pool guys.
I will come swimming.
Now you get to say hi to Miss Indy.
Hi Miss Indy!
Hello monkeys! Come on in!
We're back!
I know!
We're back!
The girls pretty much napped the entire time
we were gone. We kept checking on them on the camera.
We weren't gone too long. About an hour and a half or so.
Not too long. I took Memphis' brace off
to give her a little bit of a break.
I'm getting your cookies.
Hey Miss Ma'am!
Here, hold on! Let me give you your cookies.
I'll cook it for you.
Did you... I don't think I shared
this this morning, but Kira decided
to wake everybody up this morning by playing with her toy
that I forgot to pick up.
Yeah!
Oh, I know! We saw Indy!
Oh, look! Right here! Indy snuggled me!
Yeah! Indy snuggled me!
Yeah, so Kira decided to wake
everybody up by playing with her toy this morning
and Eleanor decided to join in.
I do have some footage of that,
which we can insert here.
So, I know it looked like there was still
a ton of water, which there is
all over the place, but on a good note
I don't know if I said it, but
the main dam in town, they have
down to only two chutes open, where I think
they had five or six open before.
So, the water is going down.
We can see the difference in the river
and how much lower it is. So, the water is going
down, but it's still gonna take
quite a few days for this to be done and over with.
They're like, whoa! Hold on a second!
You petted Indy!
What?
I don't know, I'm pretty sure I can use Eleanor
as a springboard if I want to.
Eleanor's like, whoa! You did pet Indy!
Geez, you would think you didn't drink any water
while we were gone. No, you were just sleeping the whole time.
She's like, hi dad! Pet me now!
You snuggled Indy, now pet me!
Yeah, I know. Happiest doggos
on the planet.
I guess, since they had some alone time today,
they have demanded a reward.
Memphis could smell
that somebody left the treat jar open,
which was most likely me.
So, I gave her a treat and that made her happy,
but then these two thought that I went in there
to get the bully sticks.
Did you see that? That's what happened?
So, they were staring at the treat.
They're like, hey!
It's time!
It's seven o'clock, I would like my bully stick.
So, we have to get the bully stick.
You get your bully stick!
Look at your bully stick!
It'll make you happy!
You sure look happy!
Memphis hasn't quite laid down yet.
She's got to get the end of it
and then she'll get happy and then she'll lay down.
And of course, Elinor
in her bed.
Look at you in that sunset glow!
Holy cow!
Is that good stuff?
You love it?
You look pretty happy!
Pretty happy!
I feel like I don't have to say this, but you guys know
we are brand ambassadors for Everchew.
If you want to get your own bully sticks and bully stick holders,
there's like a little QR code thing that'll pop up
on the screen and there'll be some links down below
if you want to get one and a coupon.
You do look really cute in the sunset glow!
Sunset over there!
Oh! Here she goes!
And...
Now she's happy!
You happy now?
Got it? Say, heck yeah!
Now that I got it between my paws,
I got it!
Elinor! Come here!
Elinor! Come here! Right here!
You want your snuggles?
Snuggles?
Elinor! Come here!
There it is!
I thought so!
Come here!
Come here, silly!
She's like, the camera is in the way of mine!
It's in the way!
Are you gonna spin instead?
Alright! We're gonna go ahead and call it a night!
We hope you guys enjoyed today's video!
