Hello and welcome to the home of Triumph here in the UK. Today saw the launch of two all-new
motorcycles, the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X, which now join Triumph's iconic Speed and
Scrambler lineups. These have just been revealed for the first time at a media event in London.
Let's have a look at the action before I tell you more about it.
Welcome to Triumph Motorcycles' new model launch event here at the bike shed.
You just instantly know it's a Triumph. It's a proper bike.
It's beautiful.
So at the heart of both of these new bikes is an all-new 400cc single with Triumph's
characterful and responsive power delivery and feel. Both bikes have been designed to
deliver the same fun, easy, confidence-inspiring ride that the brand is known for, courtesy of
an all-new chassis and a high standard of specification. As you can see, both have that
iconic Triumph design DNA and both deliver on the brand's class-leading reputation for finish
and detail. The new Speed 400 is born from a legendary name and joins Triumph's most successful
modern classic lineup, the Speed Twin 900 and 1200. And as you can see, it shares the same
beautiful styling with that timeless Triumph design. And it's been crafted to deliver the
same fun, agile and confidence-inspiring ride. Looking closer at the styling, there's the
iconic Triumph Roadster silhouette and that signature sculpted tank with neon dents, that
classic engine profile, plus three great paint options with a choice of Caspian Blue, Phantom
Black and this stunning Carnival Red color. Performance-wise, this is class-leading with
37.5 Nm of torque and 40 PS of peak power. And that's delivered with loads of character and feel
matched by an evocative exhaust note from that stylish Upswept silencer. There's a six-speed
gearbox with torque assist clutch and a ride-by-wire throttle and liquid cooling. With the ride, the
seat height is an accessible 790 mm that has a really slim waist, giving you that great
feet-flat-on-the-floor maneuverability. The riding position has been set up for the perfect balance
between comfort and control with a relaxed peg position for the rider and pillion, who also
has a grab rail. There's high-quality suspension brakes and tires, including big-piston 43 mm
upside-down forks, an adjustable monoshock RSU and a radial front caliper. And finally,
there's a host of technology features that make for a better ride, including dual-channel ABS,
switchable traction control, new dual-format instruments, all-LED lighting, an immobilizer
and a handy USB-C charging socket. Right, now to the new Scrambler. The 400X joins Triumph's
class-defining Scrambler lineup, alongside the 900 and the 1200, all born from a bloodline that
goes back to the very first factory Scramblers of the 1950s. The 400 shares that iconic design DNA,
as well as the Scrambler lineup's fun and easy ride and their all-road capability. Looking closer,
we have authentic Scrambler styling cues with that distinctive silhouette, wide bars in the
commanding riding position, and that twin-outlet silencer. Plus, Triumph's signature sculpted tank
with knee pads, the classic engine profile, and there are three paint schemes, this great matte
khaki green color, as well as carnival red and phantom black choices. The 400X shares the same
all-new engine with the same class-leading performance, delivering 37.5 newton meters of
torque and 40 PS of peak power, and that characterful feel and rewarding delivery.
You also get a rich Scrambler exhaust note from the twin-outlet silencer, and the six-speed
gearbox with torque assist clutch, ride-by-wire throttle, and liquid cooling. Now let's talk about
how it rides. There's a commanding seat height of 835 millimeters, which combined with its slim
waist gives you a great feet-down maneuverability. This comes with a longer Scrambler wheelbase,
adjustable wide handlebars, and pillion grab rail, and that upright riding position for great comfort
and visibility. The high-grip Scrambler foot pegs are positioned lower and wider for great leg room
and a more natural standing riding position off-road. And just like the Scrambler 900 and 1200,
there are dedicated features to enhance the capability off-road, including hand guards,
a sump guard, headlight grill, steel radiator guard, bolt-on handlebar brace, and a unique
Scrambler mudguard. Spec-wise, there's big piston 43-millimeter upside-down forks and an adjustable
monoshock RSU, both with 150 millimeters of travel, radial front brakes, and lightweight
aluminum wheels with a larger 19-inch front. And there's also lots of helpful rider-focused
technology, including switchable traction control, switchable ABS for off-road use,
new dual-format instruments, all-LED lighting, an immobilizer, and a USB-C charging socket.
There's also more than 25 new accessories to choose from, with options to add even more style,
comfort, protection, and security, plus lots of luggage choices.
So there they are. Let's head over to Grace to hear what the reaction's been like.
Thanks, Alex. Today, Chris from all over the world was off to see the brand new Speed 400
and Scrambler 400X for the first time. Here's what they had to say.
Tell us, first of all, your initial thoughts when you first saw the bikes.
Stunning-looking bike, color schemes, the accessories you can get, absolutely beautiful.
The speed to me is just, it's smooth, it looks fast when it's standing still.
That's what I dig about it.
My heart is for the Scrambler.
This is a bike you can put in your room just to see it, because it's beautiful.
They don't differ from other Triumphs in the range, you know, no panel gaps,
none of that sort of business. I've got a bike in this category, and it's small,
and it's dinky, and it's cute. This isn't.
A lot of 400s on the market, they look smaller, whereas this one doesn't look like a small bike
as well. It's got presence about it.
We've got a lot of countries where the 400cc category is very popular,
and we're happy that now there's a Triumph for those people who are looking for that bike,
to see a bit more of them.
Super lightweight, low center of gravity, low seat height, something that's much more accessible.
Who can you see riding these bikes?
This will appeal to your less confident rider, but then it will appeal to people like me who
have the experience and want a bike that they can ride to its limits.
It's really good that they're, like, branching out to a bigger audience.
For people who want a smaller, more easygoing second bike, it's going to be a brilliant option.
We need to invigorate the riding community with fresh blood,
and I think this is the bike to do it.
There you go, two all-new Triumphs joining the brand's legendary Speed and Scrambler lineups,
with the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X.
Both with all of Triumph's character and authentic design DNA,
both focused on delivering the perfect ride, and both representing great value.
With leading quality and performance, all at a very competitive price,
and the details of which will be announced later on this year.
Thanks for joining us.
