Discover DOM LAS (Forest House), a unique architectural project rooted in patience, nature, and tradition. What began 25 years ago as an empty field has been carefully transformed into a thriving landscape of pine trees, birch, and natural grasslands.
Designed as both a working retreat and a peaceful family shelter, this home reflects a deep connection between architecture and its environment. Inspired by the vernacular style of Poland’s Kashubia region, DOM LAS blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern sensibility.
From locally sourced pinewood and handcrafted brickwork to intricate metal shutters made by skilled local artisans, every detail tells a story of heritage and care. At the heart of the home lies a central fireplace, symbolizing warmth, gathering, and timeless living.
Inside, custom furniture and meaningful family heirlooms create a personal and authentic atmosphere, while natural materials and earthy tones seamlessly connect the interior with the surrounding forest.

Domlas begins not as a building, but as a long-term vision.
25 years ago, the client purchased an empty field near his hometown,
imagining a future that would grow alongside nature.
Over time, this land was carefully nurtured.
Trees were planted, grasslands shaped, and the environment slowly transformed.
What was once unused terrain evolved into a thriving, diverse landscape,
setting the foundation for a deeply meaningful architectural story.
The transformation of the land was not accidental,
but guided by thoughtful silviculture practices.
Selective weeding and thinning allowed young pine and birch trees to flourish naturally.
This careful stewardship created a balanced ecosystem
that mirrors the native flora of the region.
The result is a landscape that feels both organic and intentional,
where every tree and patch of grass reflects years of dedication and respect for nature.
The furnishings within Domlas continue the narrative of heritage and innovation.
Custom-designed tables take inspiration from traditional turned wood furniture,
reimagined in a refined, contemporary form.
These pieces also connect to family heirlooms inherited by the client,
adding emotional depth to the space.
Each object tells a story, linking past generations to the present home.
One of the most striking elements of Domlas is its seamless connection between inside and out.
A large tapestry of poppies reflects the wildflowers growing in the surrounding grasslands,
reinforcing this relationship.
The house becomes a living expression of the landscape,
where nature is not just a backdrop, but an integral part of daily life.
It's a quiet yet powerful reminder of the beauty that grows when care,
time, and design come together.
The materials used in Domlas are deeply connected to the site.
Pinewood, sourced locally, is used for both structure and furniture,
echoing the surrounding forest.
Bricks from a nearby brickyard reflect the tones of the soil,
grounding the building and its environment.
Inside, green hues and ceramic tiles mirror the colors of nature.
Blurring the boundary between interior and exterior.
Kashubia is known for its skilled craftspeople,
and their expertise is evident throughout the project.
Metal shutters, crafted locally, feature intricate fretwork
that filters light beautifully into the interiors.
The facade patterns draw inspiration from regional traditions,
including embroidery and decorative arts.
These details elevate the building,
turning it into a celebration of local culture and craftsmanship.
Domlas is a direct response to the years of care invested in the land.
Rather than imposing itself, the architecture grows from its surroundings.
The project respects the existing environment,
ensuring that the buildings feel like a natural extension of the forested landscape.
This harmony between architecture and nature defines the essence of the project,
making it more than just a place to live.
The design draws inspiration from the vernacular architecture of Poland's Kashubia region.
Traditional forms, materials and craftsmanship are reinterpreted through a modern lens.
This blending of old and new creates a timeless aesthetic
that honors local heritage while embracing contemporary needs.
It's a dialogue between past and present, deeply rooted in cultural identity.
The brief for Domlas was minimal, yet meaningful.
The buildings needed to support the ongoing care of the land,
while also providing a place of shelter for the family.
The solution came in the form of two complementary structures.
Together they balance functionality and comfort,
offering both a workspace and a retreat,
seamlessly integrated into the surrounding environment.
At the core of the main house lies the hearth, a timeless symbol of home and togetherness.
The fireplace is positioned at the literal center, visible from every room.
This design choice reinforces its importance, creating a sense of unity throughout the space.
As the warmth radiates outward,
it contrasts beautifully with the cool, natural views of the surrounding parkland.
