Day number one is underway here in beautiful Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, a city founded in the 1960s. Men's pool play underway. It'll be USA in the white tops, it'll be Sweden in yellow. Offense is a bit more refined. Good high swing, they're challenging the block of LeBou, of Helvig or Oman, as much as possible, using that length, using that height. Push, nice soft touch from Johnny, and then coming in aggressive on the open net swing. Inside for Caldwell, this time going back to the line, just enough height to get it over the top of Helvig. Nice adjustment there. Soft shot there from Caldwell. Going off of both USA players, first option taken from David. Tempo out wide, back to that line. This time it is gobbled up. Helvig was waiting for that one. Going a bit longer, there's not as much friction on this ball, and so the ball is traveling a bit more. Expect to see a few heavier spikes, a bit more pace. Speaking of heavy spikes, there's a good high swing from Cody. Time for him and the fam. Upset, Caldwell trying to come back to get the dig with the left. Good shuffle out, though, from LeBue. Could see Cody trying to get back to that angle. LeBue trying to come in aggressive, brings it low into the block of Helvig. So block number two. Line blocks here. Call for David, and right back to Caldwell. Good adjustment. Caldwell now kind of finding that height, finding that line shot. Jumps in long reach that we have on the men's side. Lefty deep knuckle, and Caldwell was indecisive if that was going to be in or out. Nice aggressive swing for Jacob. Now with the double up, 10-5 for the United States. There's a good high crack up the seam for Caldwell. A ton of service pressure, and the ability to run their offense really depends on the passing. Look at the speed from Ullman. And LeBue trying to get a touch, but it goes right through the hands of Caldwell. A little turn and burn for Sweden. Here for United States, good effort from Jacob. Sweden to set up their offense. And David up at the net, just three with USA, and of course for Sweden. Rasmus Johnson, and on there's Christensen. Good effort here, but it's another ace. Blockers to be as stressed as possible when you're playing Sweden. That is the theory that's behind what we are. And so ball is traveling a bit more. There's a nice touch, a foot save from Helvig is unbelievable. You do something here, USA to reload, quick jump set, and tap down is good. What a foot save though. Lose your breath a little bit more, just being at altitude. A little bit harder to breathe. High hands, Helvig trying to do something here. Nice touch from LeBue, but it goes at the bottom of the net. No chance for Caldwell again. Helvig getting his hands on everything. Sweden on that high line. Again, nobody up. LeBue there with the dig. It's a bit tight, trying to sneak it under, and there's looking for a net, but it will not get a net. It'll be a block for Helvig. Another one. They started on Helvig, serving him, sideline deep. Now they've mixed it up. Late change here from the United States is not going to do it. It's another ace for Sweden. Temple out wide, there's a good swing into the corner from Caldwell. Save one set point. That ball will float, as many balls have been doing here in Brazil. David taking a look and taking a little bit off of that swing. Sometimes you get one clean to drop. So effective. That one is going to be off the platform and out of play. Good job from Cody using the hands that time. Drops. Nice self-cover from Caldwell. That's a tough break. Caldwell goes into the net. Line swing not controlled by David, and he's frustrated with himself. Thought he had an easy one. Cody making that move to the line. The timing is perfect. High line, swing is blocked. Helvig puts another one on the board for number four. Creative as ever, gets his hands on it for a set. Another block. Again, that set is a touch tight. Cody just trying to do something with it, trying to go high line, maybe get a little recycle. But catching the fingers of Yonathan off the tape. Good effort. David out wide. David's going to wrap across court and gets lucky as that one goes off the forearm of Caldwell. Excellent pick up, though, from Cody on that tape serve. Putting himself in some good positions. That one ricochets through the block. Feeling out the conditions. Calibrating, as we like to say. A little bit of trouble. Sorry, did I say trouble? No problem. Nice little bump back juice. There's a good option from LeBou. And more of that, for sure, from them. Back to that side line for Helvig. Good touch from LeBou, but out of play. Good job from Yonathan. Just keeping it high.
