You probably think native speakers talk fast and that you'll never be able to sound like that.
But the truth is, it's not about speed. It's about how they speak. They connect words,
shorten them, and even add sounds. And that's why it's so hard to understand them and to speak
English fluently. But today we're going to fix that. In this video, we're going to practice
three key techniques that native speakers use all the time. And we'll do it using the shadowing
method. You'll listen and repeat out loud. First, we'll train each technique step by step.
And then we'll use them in full sentences. By the end, you'll have a set of phrases
ready to use in real conversations. Are you ready? Let's dive in.
Let's start with one of the most common tricks. Reduced forms, also called contractions.
This is when native speakers shorten words and phrases, just like you probably do in your own
language. Let's look at some examples. Going to, gonna, gonna, gonna. Want to, wanna, wanna, wanna.
Got to, gotta, gotta, gotta. Give me, gimme, gimme, gimme. Let me, lemme, lemme, lemme. Have to,
have to, have to, have to. Tryin' to, tryna, tryna, tryna. Don't know, dunno, dunno, dunno.
Kind of, kinda, kinda, kinda. And the last one here. Out of, outta, outta, outta.
Great. Let's look at some sentences. I'm gonna call you when I get home.
I'm gonna call you when I get home. I'm gonna call you when I get home.
I wanna try something new this weekend. I wanna try something new this weekend.
I wanna try something new this weekend. You gotta finish this before the deadline.
You gotta finish this before the deadline. You gotta finish this before the deadline.
Give me a second, I'm almost done here.
Let me check if they're still open.
I have to wake up really early tomorrow morning.
I'm trying to focus but it's really hard today.
I don't know why he said that.
I'm kind of tired so I might stay in tonight.
We're out of time so let's make a decision now.
By the way guys, I also have more videos on how to speak English fast
and understand native speakers, so after this one make sure to check them out.
They'll really help you connect everything you're learning here.
All right, let's move on to linking.
Linking is when words connect together and sound like a continuous flow.
This happens all the time in natural speech, especially with phrasal verbs.
All right, let's practice.
Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up, pick it up.
Take it off, take it off, take it off, take it off.
An R sound kind of appears here.
Take it off, take it off, take it off.
Turn it on, turn it on, turn it on, turn it on.
Put it in, put it in, put it in, put it in.
Call him up, call him up, call him up, call him up.
Find it out, find it out, find it out, find it out.
Leave it here, leave it here, leave it here, leave it here.
All right, let's look at some sentences.
Pick it up and bring it over here, pick it up and bring it over here,
pick it up and bring it over here.
Take it off if it's getting too cold, take it off if it's getting too hot inside,
take it off if it's getting too hot inside, take it off if it's getting too hot inside.
Turn it on so we can see better.
Put it in the box and close it properly.
Call him up and ask him what he thinks.
Find it out before it becomes a problem.
Leave it here, I'll deal with it later.
Later, see you later, alligator, bum-bum-bum, crocodile.
What's the difference between alligator and crocodile?
Guys, I already have a whole playlist of just listen and repeat videos.
There we practice real-life situations from ordering in a restaurant and shopping in a store
to traveling and job interviews.
Make sure to save that playlist.
It's an amazing tool for improving your spoken English.
Trust me.
All right, the third and the final trick for today.
Adding sounds.
Sometimes to make speech smoother, native speakers add small sounds between words.
All right, let's look at some examples.
Do it, do it.
Go on, go on.
Again, W sound.
I saw it.
Try it.
Say it.
Go away.
It is not your honey.
I'm just a big fan of cartoons and fairy tales.
You are.
I am.
And some example sentences.
Just do it and stop overthinking.
Go on, tell me what happened.
I saw it earlier.
Try it again, a little more slowly.
Say it one more time, please.
Go away for a few days and relax.
You were doing a great job today.
I am really happy you came.
And that's it.
How did you do?
