Are your volleys all over the place? If you have trouble controlling your volleys then we'd bet you're doing something wrong at the point of contact. Here are the 3 things to look out for...
In this video, we cover the top 3 things that we see going wrong with volley technique on both the forehand and backhand side.
These are the 3 fundamental things that you need to get right on every single volley to make sure that you hit a strong volley and can also place it well.
Most people tend to do too much with their volleys. This is one of those times where 'less is more" and we show you what to look out for and what to do in this video...
hi welcome to prime time pickleball my name is jordan Briones and in today's video i'm
going to give you three tips that are going to improve your volleys let's jump right in
alright so for the first tip you want to have a stable paddle face when you're falling and
you want your paddle angle to be slightly open okay you don't want it like this and obviously
it's gonna be tougher nearly impossible to hit a ball like this so right around here and what
I mean by stable is a lot of people when they first start the game of pickleball they're not
sure what to do with their paddle as they're hitting the ball because the ball is coming
at them at various speeds but what you want to do is just meet the ball out in front and have
a paddle face that doesn't change so the last the angle I'm talking about so like from here
to here and here to here okay go go ahead and sit some volleys so as you can see there you go so as
you can see when he hit when I hit that ball I'm not doing anything crazy I'm not cutting
it or anything like that it's a stable paddle and all I'm doing is pushing all right so tip number
two is the volley is a very compact stroke okay it's not there's not a lot of movement depending
on how far you're going to volley the ball where your target is you're going to push it a little
bit more but generally it's very compact and I'm gonna go over it right now the backswing
that's me taking my paddle back it is not going to be far I'm not going to be taking it past my
my body like this okay it's just going to come back a little bit and my follow-through is it's
just going to be a little push that's going to end just right in front of my body I know I'm
not going to be swinging way way out there it's just from here to here and my forehand
is just from here to here okay so it's very compact and slight push just pushing the ball
so as you can see I'm not taking my paddle way
back and I'm only pushing it a foot or two away from my body
so you could see it's a very compact stroke not doing anything crazy and like I said in
the first tip my paddle is very stable all right all right let's move on to the last one
all right so for the third tip I'm going to talk about having a consistent contact point
where you're actually contacting the ball and what I'm talking about that I'm talking about
having an optimal contact zone so when I'm actually contacting the ball I never want
to be really close to my body because that's gonna jam me okay I have a very weak contact
point out here okay and all these balls that that I'm balling that could possibly fall to
the net and I don't want to be I don't want to have my contact point way out here because
as you can see the further I get away from my body my paddle actually my paddle face moves
up and then those balls will probably go out okay so I wanna there's a range here that is
very optimal for me to direct where I want to hit the ball so like right around here to
here you have it you have a you know one to two foot around there range that you want to
stay in to have full control of your volleys and each volley that comes or each ball that
comes depending if it's fast or slow I'm going to have to make some adjustments but I'm going
to still want to hit it in that optimal range okay so here you go all right so that was good
so as you can see when I'm contacting that ball
I'm not contacting it too close or too far away from me okay
yeah so it's all here in here I'm not stretching way out here and I'm trying not to get it too
close to my body sometimes the ball will come a little faster than you expect right in it and it
could get closer to your body but that's why you want it around here just in case you read
it wrong you could lay your paddle back and you could still get a paddle on it all right so those
are the three tips for better balling thanks for joining us in this video and we'll see you in the
