You Need To Be Magnus Carlsen To Make Flygon Work

I need to talk to you about this card, Flygon EX,
because there's so much I like about it
and so much that is a mess.
It feels like a card that could be amazing in a future set,
but does have some incredible games now,
while also being an absolute disaster.
180 HP as a stage two
that requires two different energy types,
grass and fighting, that has no good ramp in the game.
I'll talk a little bit more in a second about that
because there is a way to get
either one of these energies on it from another Pokemon,
but man, it is complex.
Its ability, Sand Slammer,
allows you to do 10 damage every checkup.
So that's between your turn and your opponent's turn.
You're hitting everything for 10 damage.
This is the absolute best part of its kit.
Even though Dragon Pulse, it does swing for 140 damage,
which is very, very solid.
What I found with this Pokemon is
it can win you crazy games, like unbelievable games,
and it can also just brick and lose
and be such a tragic card.
I don't know how to feel about it,
and I've got two decks that I wanna show you,
and I don't know how to feel about those two decks,
except they do work,
and just like any card that's kind of good slash bad,
sometimes it's a nightmare.
The first deck I wanna talk to you about
is Flygon with Leafeon EX.
I know what you're thinking.
Jake, your hair's a mess.
It is a little bit of a mess today.
And the second thing you're thinking is,
all right, Jake,
I'm listening about this whole Leafeon thing,
but Leafeon's ability cannot power Flygon.
I agree with you, it cannot.
It can only power grass Pokemon.
However, Leafeon can power itself in this deck,
fight in the active spot, do some okay damage,
and using this card, Dawn,
it will give energy to the active spot.
It can be some grass energy
that you have generated for Leafeon,
moving it up to Flygon.
We played this with both dual energy
and with only fighting energy,
relying on Leafeon to move the energy.
And while I don't think either were that much better,
dual energy was probably slightly more consistent.
So if you like that, great.
However, sometimes you're gonna brick on fighting energy,
just like before,
sometimes you would brick on not finding your Leafeon.
In general, dual energy decks are an absolute nightmare
that the devs have created to punish mainly me.
The rest of this deck, Pokeballs, Rare Candies,
Lucky Ice Pops, of course, a couple of Dawns
for the play we talked about,
Copycat, Hiking Trail, Cyrus, and Professors.
There are a few things you could move around here,
but the idea is simple.
You get Leafeon in the active spot,
power it, eventually retreat it,
put Flygon in, and Dawn the energy up.
If you can make all of that happen,
which we did in our games,
you can win some really crazy games.
If you don't, well, you're gonna lose.
Now onto the next Flygon deck that also has its own issues.
This is pairing Flygon with Giratina.
You feel that?
Got cold in here for some reason.
Giratina EX powers itself,
and Flygon takes forever to get online.
Ideally, with this deck,
you actually want Flygon EX in the active spot
as early as you possibly can,
putting either Fighting or Grass energy on it
while you're powering Giratina on the bench.
This will chip your opponents for a ton of damage.
While you're waiting to get Flygon online,
you're powering your Giratina
because you can't be attacking with Flygon.
So this is a really solid combo,
and it actually was probably our strongest Flygon
that we played.
We played, I think, four different Flygons on stream.
Flygon Jump Luff, which I didn't like too much.
We played Flygon Giratina.
We played Flygon with Vibrava,
kind of focusing on using that more.
This was our best Flygon,
but I still don't think that means it's a great card.
It just works pretty well.
Both cards can't attack for a long time,
but Flygon can do tons of damage
just throughout the match while you're waiting.
We have multiple Cyruses in this deck.
That way I can grab my opponents,
bring them in and KO them
when I'm finally ready to attack with either of my Pokemon.
We also have Dawn in this deck
in case we need an extra colorless or something like that.
Use the Giratina to send energy up to Flygon EX.
Enjoy it.
We call this one Flygon with the win
because that's how quickly it will be out of the meta.
Feel like it's almost not worth it.
10 immersives is a steep price.
Kind of regret doing it, but what do you regret it?
It's not like you can use them for anything else, can you?
I don't love our start, but I mean, we want Eevee's start.
Eevee's our better start.
Flygon's a weak start, right?
Or Trapinch, I should say, is a weak start.
It's not a terrible start if we're going first.
It's not great if we're going second, you know?
The Pokeballs are nice here.
I have Flygon, so part of me wants to Professors
instead of Copycat,
but Copycat is the more consistent play.
And I could get Leafy on easier, so I'm gonna go for it.
Type Brava, Eevee.
Yeah, I've still got Flygon.
You love the Camerupt cards?
Looks so stupid.
Do they look stupid?
Yeah, 140 for three energy is not bad.
The damage is good.
It's just the awkwardness of getting the energy on.
And the ability's pretty nice.
Do you think it'd be possible to get my money back
if I spent $200 to open packs and I brick?
I mean, I bet people could make a case
with the Google Play Store or whatever
and they'd give them money back.
I don't know how it would work,
but I bet people could message Apple or Google
and they could get a refund, right?
Something like that.
This is a tricky one.
I don't have it on Curve,
but we do a lot of damage to them, you know?
I think this is the play.
Just say your kid bought it, unauthorized transaction.
Now you guys are,
now you're coming up with too many good strats.
You're a bunch of scammers in here.
X-Speed, Dawnfan coming in.
Training area, cool.
We had a good start, but not much happening right now.
We got Dawn, but I can't use it yet.
And we're bricking, we went double fighting energy.
Ugh, it's so rough.
Okay, this is the problem.
On any dual energy deck,
you have stuff like this happen, you know?
I heckin' love dragon types in this game.
I heckin' love them too, buddy.
No grass energies.
We need our leafy yawns.
If we don't get leafy yawn, we simply can't win.
Leaf's our only shot, obviously.
Yeah, we're not running grass.
I have to get leaf, as I was saying.
You know, part of winning is never giving up, you know?
Believing in yourself, that's a huge part of it.
My inspiration?
Well, I guess Gandhi.
Gandhi's a big one for me.
Who else really impacted my life in a massive way?
Hmm, Mother Teresa.
MLK Jr. and Sr.
I think Steve Jobs was an innovator,
but I don't think he went far enough.
In general, the time for winning is upon us,
and we are the winners.
If that becomes Megalucaran and beats us, I'll be so sad.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
All right.
Hey, Baton, thank you so much.
Appreciate the gift.
Yee-haw, brother.
We get a couple of Pokeballs.
This is a pretty good start.
Two Pokeballs, Leafeon into a copycat.
I like it.
Hit the copycat.
One for four.
Not badge, not gold badge.
Another Leafeon.
Not a good draw.
We didn't get Dawn, we didn't get Flygon,
but we got a good amount of cards, so we're fine.
Does Leafeon work on Flygon?
It does with Dawn.
Yeah, that's the only way.
I think there's another option of just like,
you create a wall with something,
and then you power Flygon on the bench, you know?
You almost treat it like powering a Dragonite
or something like that.
The only problem is Dragonite's gotten better
because of how you can power it, you know?
All right, we have Rare Candy,
but I don't have the cards I'm looking for.
My hand is honestly bad.
I think the best thing I should,
I should copycat even though it's like an even trade,
but my hand is just not good.
Two Rare Candy.
Yeah.
This is a little bit the same, but now we have this, so.
We'll take the KO.
Are we ready for Drud with Rocky Helmet?
Hey, yeah, there we go.
There we go.
Sorry, I don't speak Japanese.
Let me see if I can translate this.
Isn't Leafeon only usable on Grass-type Pokemon?
It is, we have Dawn in this deck.
So we power Leafeon.
Vibrava and Trapinch can both take colorless energy.
You put fighting on them, whatever.
Flygon, if we get it online,
we can attack with it using Dawn.
So that's the plan.
We sleep.
We sleepy boys.
Professors.
Gives us Dawn and Professors.
We get a Flygon.
We power it.
We power Leafeon.
Igglybuff is mean.
It's too mean.
Wake up, buddy.
The egg on Igglybuff is gonna save them.
It could, kind of.
There is a way around it.
It's tricky, but we could play around it.
Wake up, Leaf!
Wake up, you jerk!
Thank you.
I mean, it doesn't matter what we get rid of here, but sure.
Do I hit here?
That's the question.
All right, this is Bulb.
It's a bold move by me.
They have Mega Altaria.
Not good.
Okay.
If I Cyrus, I win, right?
I just do this.
Cyrus is the win, yeah?
Because we hit and then Igglybuff goes down to the sand.
Did we just play 8D chess?
Am I Magnus frigging Carlson out here?
Oh, I'm sorry.
I forgot I was freaking Magnus Carlson out here.
Oh, sorry about that.
Oh, hold on, I'm getting a phone call.
Huh?
Yeah?
Yeah.
No, it's me, Magnus Carlson.
Okay.
All right.
I'm being sued.
We won, because we're the best.
Hey, this is the midway point of the video
where I want to know from you,
what is the worst EX in this set?
Let me know in the comments.
Why do we still have no double dragon energy?
I don't know.
It would be cool.
All right, we start Trapinch.
They start Buzzwole.
Shenotic, that's what it was, yeah.
Pheromosa.
We're weak to Pheromosa.
If they hit me with Kartana, they would one-shot.
Not anymore with starting planes, but they would have.
We bench Giratina.
Trapinch active.
Broken space bellow.
Rare candy.
Flygon.
Power it.
Hit my copycat.
Trade two for four.
Hit the Pokeball.
Other Giratina.
Doesn't really help us.
Mezagoza, they're starting planes.
Go for a Mezagoza.
Miss.
Miss a Goza.
Power.
They're gonna need a cape.
They might have a leaf cape.
They need it.
They could be looking for Celesteela here.
You could run Drogon like a Rocky Helmet, yeah.
Yeah, if they Celesteela, they bring in Pheromosa.
They have another starting planes, huh?
Okay.
Two of them.
Interesting.
Hitting everybody.
Pokeball.
Doesn't give us what we need.
Professors.
Grabs us an Ice Pop and a Cyrus.
Okay.
Well, hmm.
I'm gonna Pop.
I'm gonna Power.
And I'm gonna Power this too.
Let's see what they wanna do.
Flygon's ready to swing, but I gotta wait, right?
I gotta swing on the Buzzwall.
They have another Buzzwall.
That's the problem.
They Cyrus, my Giratina.
Okay.
I could retreat here,
but I could also Pop.
Do I Cyrus now?
I think I wait.
Buzzwall.
Is Buzzwall Dex an antique?
They've got some stadiums and stuff in there.
Ah, they Leaf Cape the back one.
They did do it.
Who are we bringing in?
That gentleman, huh?
Okay.
Have they already Cyrus-ed me?
They've already Cyrus-ed once.
Hmm.
I maybe go for this KO here.
Okay.
Take one.
Now, Celesteela is just the target.
Celesteela would just end it.
I guess they could Pop it maybe.
It wouldn't even matter.
I could get the other one too.
They can't heal them both now.
Yeah.
Well, I guess they could.
They could Leaf Cape and then Erica the bench
or something, right?
Lusamine.
GG.
Flygon for the win with Giratina.
Ugh, I feel disgusting.
Come here.
Come here, buddy.
GG.
Gross.
Gross!
When Flygon works, it's really cool.
It's really cool when it works.
That's all I can really say about that.
That was somehow fun and bad.
It was.
It was somehow fun and bad.
Drowsy.
I'm listening.
Oof, awful.
All right, so what is the best version of this?
Haven't played this in months,
but I always love your content.
Nice seeing you again.
Thanks, Jonathan.
Appreciate you, dude.
Thank you, buddy.
I'm out of water.
We've been streaming too long.
We're enjoying Flygon and then also hating it
at the same time.
We've been going too long, everybody.
They've got Gimmie Ghoul,
but when you think about it,
don't we all have Gimmie Ghoul?
Mezigoza?
Yezigoza.
Giratina.
Is a fake stream ending coming up like last night?
You never know, baby.
You never know.
I think we could just go into Flygon here, right?
I mean, they've got some weird...
Oh, okay, they got Hypno.
They got Hypno Goldengo.
I have not built an Emboar deck.
In fact, I only have one Emboar, I think,
so I've not built that yet.
We went to bed.
They put us to sleep.
We're sleeping.
We stayed asleep.
We were sleepy the whole way.
Do I want that Giratina?
Even though he's sleeping,
he still is able to Broken Space Velo.
Now the question is,
can I get Grass Energy ever?
This is the question, guys.
Is Darkrai Weezing still viable?
I don't know.
I haven't seen it forever.
Maybe.
I did get a Mega Sceptile.
We made a Mega Sceptile deck earlier that was pretty fun.
All right, Weezing Giratina.
Did I say Weezing Giratina?
It's because you said Weezing earlier.
You're banned.
Yep, we've been streaming too long.
We've lost our minds.
We're not any good anymore.
We're playing Giratina, Flygon.
We haven't been good for a little while, gang.
We've been struggling for a hot minute here, people.
Okay.
Is that a shiny Hypno?
They're putting me to sleep.
I already am asleep, by the way.
It's just to keep it going.
We woke up.
Do I want to just retreat in a Flygon?
I can't hit if I do, huh?
I guess I just have to keep this active, sadly.
I like Flygon here, but this does actual damage.
A Flygon does imaginary damage.
Grass energy isn't real, true.
It's fighting.
This is what we talked about, running dual energy.
Sometimes it doesn't mean anything, gang.
We sleepy.
We went to bed.
Good night.
I get so many spam calls now.
I'm so popular.
Every spam call is like, I want to talk to that guy.
And they call me.
They all call me, all day.
All they do is try to see if they can spam call me.
It's their favorite thing to do.
Scam Likely is a huge fan.
They're always watching the stream.
My opponent's got this big brain nonsense deck.
It's so silly.
I'm just like, okay.
Okay.
Like, there's nothing I can do.
Just go, okay.
I guess what I have to do, hit that, hit that.
I could play a Giratina to soak some damage.
There is a possibility, though,
that we just go down because of it.
But I think I have to play it to soak something.
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.
There's that way.
Maybe it'll take a couple hits, right?
Maybe.
Take him out during checkup.
We could, if they KO it.
Stayed awake.
Okay.
Crazy.
Flygon.
Is it broken?
You tell me, guys.
Is Flygon broken?
I don't know.
You tell me, guys.
It breaks the game, dude.
My opponents put me to sleep when I was already asleep.
They were like, go to bed, go to bed, go to bed, go to bed.
I was already in bed.
Go to bed, go to bed, go to bed.
You go to bed.
You get some rest.
You sleep tight.
You don't let the bedbugs bite, dude.
All right?
You sleep tight, bro.
No, no, no.
You have sweet dreams, all right?
All right, chief?
No, you have sweet dreams, okay, bud?
Okay, bud?
All right.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for listening.
I love you.
I'll see y'all next time.
We did it.
