Everybody wants to be great until they see the invoice.
Greatness will cost you sleep.
It'll cost you comfort.
It'll cost you being liked by everybody.
And the truth is, most people aren't willing to pay it.
See, we love the idea of the trophy, but we hate the process.
We love the story of the champion, but we want to skip the chapters
where they were overlooked, rejected, and tested.
But you can't skip it.
You can't borrow greatness.
You've got to earn it in private,
when nobody's clapping, when nobody's checking,
when nobody's posting about you.
That's the real proving ground.
Those nights when you want to quit, but choose to stay.
Those mornings when you're tired, but you get up anyway.
Every rep you push,
when it doesn't feel worth it,
that's when you're making the down payment on your dream.
And when the day comes,
when you finally walk into that moment you've been fighting for,
it won't be luck, it won't be magic, it won't be coincidence.
It'll be because you looked at the price tag of greatness,
and you paid it in full.
Can you do that for 60 months?
You. Can you do it for 60 months?
Because I like guarantees in life.
And you know what I know about guarantees?
If you stick to the basic fundamentals,
and constantly improve, adjust, adapt,
but stick to that same activity
over and over and over and over and over again,
for 60 straight months,
you're bound to dominate your industry.
And if you do it for 10 years,
the industry's going to know about you.
If you do it for 20 years,
the world's definitely going to know about you.
By the way, nowadays, you don't need 20 years.
You need 3 to 5 years nowadays.
But you do need to show up and do the boring thing
every single day. What's the boring thing?
Show up on time, early in the morning,
leave late, improve.
These are boring things
you got to do on a daily basis.
But it is what it is.
Do you realize that every day
you thought you wasn't going to make it?
Do you remember them days when you thought
it was absolutely unbearable,
and you thought you wasn't going to endure that one?
Do you know that your survival rate
for every last one of them bad days
is 100%?
You survived every hater.
You survived all the evictions.
You survived the firings.
You survived all the trouble
you ever been in.
Your survival rate is 100%.
You got to learn to let the past go
so you can grow.
Many people never act on their dreams
because they allow their past experiences
to determine what their possibilities are.
Whatever you've done in the past,
that's not a reflection of your possibilities.
That's just a reflection of your consciousness.
That's just a reflection of your development
and your growth.
The future is unfolding for you right now.
The future is unlimited
for you right now.
No one knows where you can go.
No one knows what you're capable of
or what's possible for you.
Can you be weak and strong
at the same time? Yes.
But I say
be strong.
Train your physical strength
and exercise
your mental strength
by doing the right things.
The hard things.
The things you know
you're supposed to do.
Do them.
And be as strong as you can
mentally, physically
and emotionally
for yourself,
for your team,
for your family.
Hold the line
and be strong.
Before we know it, we become something that we're not.
And so many people in this world,
they're living a life that's not theirs.
And what I mean by that is that they're living a life
that someone else gave them. They're living a life that
pain gave them. They're living a life that depression
gave them. They're living a life that a failed dream
gave them. And they end up becoming that.
That is not your identity, people.
You got to give back to the core of your being.
You got to give back to yourself.
But when you decide what's most important
to you, your brain goes after it.
If you don't know exactly what you want
or you let yourself get beyond that to something
general, you're not going to achieve it.
Clarity is power. The more clear you are
about exactly what it is you want,
the more your brain knows how to get there.
Is instead of saying
my sacrifices were rejected,
so my hard work, my effort,
everything that I'm doing to try
and move forward, it's not working.
And
if you want to go towards hell,
you keep saying, well, it's not
working, but it's because of everyone else.
They're rejecting me. They're not
accepting what I've done. Whereas
if you say to yourself, oh, it didn't
work, okay, it's my fault. What can
I do better? And that's how you start moving in the
other direction.
Don't give up. Don't let the world
get you down. When it does get you down, get
up and write what you want out of your
life and don't stop. You know what I'm saying?
There ain't no vacation.
You get up every ******* day,
you look in the mirror and you tell that mirror, I'm a bad
************. It's all
in your mind. Whatever you hold
in your mind will tend to occur in your life.
If you continue to
believe as you have always believed,
you will continue to
act as you have always acted.
You will continue to get what you have always
gotten. If you want different
results in your life or your work,
all you have to do is
change your mind.
Wisdom comes from
experience
and experience takes time.
The more experience you have, the more
you learn from that experience, the wiser
you can get. A
pine tree grows and matures
very fast. An
oak tree grows and matures
very, very
slow.
Which one lasts longer?
And which one's stronger?
Which one shelters
more critters and more birds?
Which one, when it's done
and over and it's cut down, which
one is more valuable for the lumber?
We're all looking for this
golden purpose. Is it this? Is it that?
Is it making money? Is it my family?
Motherfucker, the purpose is you.
Every ******* day I wake up,
I know I want to do some ******* ----.
I'm like, okay man, do you want to be a bitch today?
Do you want to walk around all day knowing that you could
but you didn't? You have to learn
how to get up and do ---- when you ain't got
no ******* 5k, no 10k,
nothing. Nothing exists. Your life
******* sucks. You're in the *******
dungeon. But guess what, ************?
I'm still going to get it.
First of all, don't aim
at being happy because that's
just not going to work.
Especially when the storms come and
barbarians are beating at the gate.
You can just forget about that. There's going to be times
in your life where you're suffering so much you can't
believe it. And so you're going to need something a hell of
a lot more robust than happiness to get you through
that.
And then you might say, well, what's more robust than
happiness? Or maybe
even what's more robust than pain?
How about adventure?
How about we go out and sail the uncharted
seas, you know?
But our life situation
predominantly
is our fault.
It's our fault.
When you get knocked down
and you get broken open, that's when
you really get to know your true self.
Suffering is awesome.
You know, you get knocked down and split
in half. You
walk out in the world. If you choose,
you have a choice. You can contract
and become bitter and never
open up again, like most people.
Or you can actually use
the tragedy or suffering
or whatever you've gone through
to allow it to
purify you.
Tragedy and pain is
life's greatest
purifier.
Holding the line.
Maintaining
the standard.
Giving no slack.
None. That's the discipline.
What's gone?
Gone is that which calls you to make the
appropriate sacrifices and calls
you on it when you don't.
And try to escape that and see
what happens. We know perfectly well,
perfectly well, that that's a
pathway to hell. And you might say,
I don't believe in hell. And I would say,
that means you don't know
anything. Do you abide by that
or not? Well, you do if you're wise
and you do if you care about the people around you.
You gotta be willing to do the
work. You can speak about it all day.
The easiest thing in the world to do is
to complain, blame, and quit and
settle. That's the easiest thing in the
world to do. But it takes real
work to deconstruct
and to reconstruct the thought
process in the mindset of
an individual when they're trying to change
something. That's why I always say to
people, what's more important?
What we acquire or who we
become? Right?
What's more important? What we acquire
or who we become? Materialistic?
Superficial? It's cool.
But the people that we become?
The thoughts we think? The words we
speak? That's something that's going to travel
with us forever.
Are you a leader?
Are you ready to become
one? Are you
willing to step up to the plate and become
that person that everyone
can follow into battle and
trust that you won't run,
you won't turn your back, you won't
hide when the rocks get thrown,
but you will step in front of
everyone else to protect them
because you don't sit on the throne.
Let the process
do what the process does.
The process is there for a reason.
The process is there to strengthen
you and build you. The process
teaches you things along the journey
that no skipping steps
could have taught you. That no faking
it till you make it could have taught you.
That no overnight success
could have taught you.
The journey isn't always
beautiful, but the journey is always purposeful.
So start telling yourself
this is a part of the process.
We are absolutely divine
magnificent expressions of life.
All of us, with each face
is another unique
expression of God.
And we're not supposed to be alike.
Since time
began on this planet
there have not been two snowflakes
alike. We've
certainly not been two people alike.
And we're always trying to
be like everybody else so we're
acceptable. Our uniqueness
is what makes us wonderful.
Got to chase that
dream before you die.
You should go
and live your dream. Just go
see. God
puts your real life in your imagination.
That's where your real life ain't in your
present circumstance. Your
real life is not in your current situation.
Your real life is not in
your pain check. Your real life
he tucks it away in your
imagination.
Ladies and gentlemen it takes courage to live your dreams.
It takes courage
to manifest your greatness.
It takes courage to decide
to live. To decide
to bring out all of your talents and abilities.
To decide to stretch out.
To decide to take a chance.
It takes courage to be happy.
Just to be you.
Every single day in every aspect of
our lives and the things we're privileged to do
and the people we're connected to.
When the situation or the moment
does not go our way.
Because we all know what to do when it
goes right. But when God
says no.
Who will you be?
But most importantly
who's watching you and who can be blessed
by the opposition
adversity and the challenge
that you're facing.
Einstein said
imagination is everything. It's a preview
to life's coming attractions.
Everything you imagine
is a preview to a coming attraction.
Once
Once I see
it. Once I
feel it. Once I see
where I was broken. Then
I can attack that weakness.
I can fill in
that gap.
I can reinforce that
breach.
If you break
it means it's time to
fortify your will to make
it stronger.
You've got genius in you. You've got goodness
in you. You've got creativeness
in you. If you decide
to take the initiative
to change the current
quality of your life. I
say to you that you will find
that the universe is on your side.
You're not great
because you're poor. You're not great
because you're rich.
Your greatness is not based upon your
income. It's not
based upon inheritance.
Greatness is not talent.
Now this is very important. So listen.
Greatness is not talent.
There are some people who
are good at doing but they're
not good at being.
They're great at doing
something but they're not great at being
someone. Start pointing
your finger. You lose power immediately.
As soon as you start
saying that somebody else is fucked. What you
do is say I'm a child and I need
somebody grown to handle this.
Own it. Like what's yours?
Now we're not talking about something
somebody else wants you to own.
What is yours that you're not
owning? Life is
on your side.
Now will it be turbulent? Yes.
Would it be easy? No.
No. Will you have some opposition?
Yes. Will I make a lot
of mistakes? Yes.
But the great thing about it if you love
the process when opposition and
adversity hits you will have a way of
embracing it and using it not only
for yourself but you will use it to make
everybody that's connected to you stronger
because your vision has to be larger than
yourself. If everything that you do is just
about you and for your personal gain
something's gonna come up against you that's gonna be a lot
tougher than you and if it's just about you
the moment you hit it you're gonna quit and give up
every time.
Greatness is not cheap.
Greatness will cost you something.
Greatness will
cost you something not somebody
else. It'll cost you something.
It's gonna cost
you some time. It's gonna cost you some
energy. It's gonna cost you
some sacrifice.
It's gonna cost you some resources.
It's gonna cost you some hours of
your life laying down, paying
the price, going the extra mile,
doing what other people are not willing to do.
Greatness
is not cheap. Greatness
always costs more. That's why there's
not many people who achieve greatness.
They're not willing to pay the price.
Maybe you're here
because you need to hear this here.
Maybe you're here because you need to dust
off your dreams. Maybe you need
to explore your imagination.
Commitment is staying
true to what you said you were going to do long after
the move that you have set in and has left. You see
people think commitment is saying yes, I'll do it
on the days when it feels good. But
I've been committed to everything that I ever started
in my life and I never stopped and I never quit it.
And so by being committed to everything
that I started, I finished it. It built
a certain type of spirit. It built a certain
type of mentality. It built a certain type
of individual. And so now I couldn't
quit even if I wanted to. I couldn't
lay in a bed even if I wanted to. I
couldn't stop even if I wanted to.
I had too much sweat equity in my life
and everything that I was doing.
Viktor Frankl calls it
unavoidable suffering.
You can't duck it. But most
people spend their life not wanting
to deal with the pain of rejection,
the pain of defeat,
the pain of being disappointed,
the pain of losing, the pain of
failure, the pain of being criticized,
the pain of not being liked. The pain,
the pain, the pain. That's called life.
Life is
full of pain. Bishop
Jake said, I would hate to die
and never do the thing I was born to
do. Every time
you break and in every way
that you break, while
it's a chance, it's
definitely a chance for you to give up
and for you to just to fall
apart. There's
opportunity to get
stronger and get
smarter and get faster and
get tougher and get more
stable and get more resilient
and get
better. Ask yourself
the question, what would
your life look like if
you decided not
to care what people thought of you?
Your gifts all alone.
They were given to you because you make
a difference. You make a
difference in the lives of others. Your
gift until you unleash
it, until you unpack it, until
you discover the levels that it can go
to, there are lives that will be lost
because they needed what's inside
of you. There are purposes that won't
be fulfilled until you give
away your gift.
What's your gift? Those
times when you get up early and you work hard,
those times when you stay up late
and you work hard, those times when you
don't feel like working, you're too tired, you don't want
to push yourself but you do it anyway.
That is actually the
dream. That's the dream.
It's not the destination, it's the journey.
And you've got
to go ahead and stop putting brakes
on yourself. You've got to remember that you're
significant. You've got
to remember that somehow the day
wasn't promised but you got it. That means
that there is more promise still in
you and we've got to pull that out.
And how do you pull it out?
That means you go ahead and you ignite
your will with intentionality
and action. You put
together discipline and purpose
and develop habits. Those
habits are hard
to maintain because it's
easy to procrastinate but not
once you realize that you've wasted
years already, you've wasted weekends
already, do something
now. Your
hardships, your challenges,
your situation
will either be the
reason you don't make it
or it will be the story
you tell when you do make
it and you get to make that choice.
Always say to people
people don't burn out, quit,
underachieve, stop, don't accomplish
because of what they do.
People burn out, quit, underachieve,
don't accomplish because life makes them forget
why they do it.
What you do now will echo
in eternity. What you do now will echo
in other generations
because there is someone
who made a way for you.
Someone opened doors
for you. The way you give them a
thank you is by what you do for others.
And when you need
motivation yourself,
don't look for someone to
scream and yell. Don't look for
someone else to give you
motivation.
Look at yourself.
Look at yourself
and remind yourself
why.
Why you are
doing what you are doing.
Remind yourself
that this
struggle,
this temporary pain,
this fight, this
fight that you're in, this
is what will make you stronger
and faster and smarter
and better.
And there,
with that motivation,
go forward.
Every time I've lost,
people say, you gotta jump right back up.
I disagree with that.
After you lose, or when you get knocked out,
stay down there for a minute.
Understand why you lost.
What were the reasons? Why are you down here?
Why did you lose? So every time I lost,
I stayed down for a second.
Minutes,
hours, days. But when I
stood up, I was different.
I was smarter. Now you start putting
the pieces that are necessary
to win over and over
and over again.
When you look back over your life,
you'll see that there are many people
who've sacrificed and
given so that you could be great.
You owe it
to yourself and you owe it to them
to be great, fulfill
your purpose, chase down
your dreams. I promise you,
my friend, I promise you
that when you release
your potential and you
unpack those gifts that are just
for you, you will do things
that you never thought possible.
But it begins with a determined
mind today.
Into the fray, into
the storm,
into the heat of the battle
where victory
is forged.
And that's necessary because
it's often the case
that you wake up at four in the morning or at least
sometimes the case that you wake up at four in the
morning when things haven't been going that well
and wonder just what the hell the point is
of your futile and miserable life.
You have to have something real to set
against that. It can't be just rationalizations
about how, you know,
you're a valuable person among others even
though that's true. That's not good enough.
Observing courage in yourself
is definitely one of the
things that can help
you sleep soundly at night when
things are destabilized a little bit around
you.
So some of you are going to experience a breakthrough.
Some of you are going to go back and look at your dreams
and brush them off. Some of you are going
to begin to look at yourself and say, hey, look here,
I know I have not done all that I can do.
Whatever goal that you have in mind,
I want that to be a goal that will challenge
you, something that will make you stretch.
It was Osborne who said,
unless you attempt to do something beyond that
which you've already mastered, you will never
grow. What is it that you looked
at at some point in time and you decided
that you couldn't do it? That you talked yourself
out of it. Whatever it is, bring it
back out there. How are you going to do it?
That will come to you in due time.
So you don't get in life what you want, ladies and gentlemen.
You get in life what you are.
It depends
on you.
You may have to forgive yourself for some mistakes
that you've made. You may
have to forgive some other people so that you
can unlock your potential to trust
and love and give and
not hold back. You don't need
these walls. You need to scale them.
You need to unblock yourself.
Unleash yourself. Discover what's
in you and unlock
your potential.
Life and society
made this big world with all these
endless possibilities.
Endless possibilities.
My life made my possibilities this
big because it made me afraid
of all these different things.
So all this stuff trapped
my mind. It shackled my brain.
It made me a prisoner within my own self
saying this is all I can do.
Because why? I'm afraid of this.
I'm insecure over here. I got
self-doubt over here. That behind me.
Who knows what's behind me? I'm not going to look behind me.
So your life is this big versus
it being like I can do all this out here
if I start to break down these
different walls and
barriers
because I was afraid. But you
overcome those fears, guess what happens?
The whole world, you unlock this door
and everything opens back up again.
As long as we
are on this planet, you're going
through two things. You're going through
recovery and discovery.
Recovery of our past.
Recovery of what
we're dealing with right now.
And then
discovery. Identity
is a key because if we
don't know
who we are
we're going to be
chasing our identity
for our whole life.
And so I believe
that when you find out where you
came from, who you are
and what your purpose is, you cannot be
stoned. And it's
this whole idea of you've been born
an original, don't die copy.
But my challenge was
is that what my
true identity was
was not true.
For the next few minutes I'm going to talk about you.
I want you to just think about you
for a moment. I want you to think about your
life. I want you to think about how you're
living versus how you'd really
like to live. When you
set goals, when you have an intention
on something that you want to change about your life,
your brain helps you. What it
does is it opens up a checklist
and then your brain goes to
work trying to remind you.
And I say that word purposefully. The
skill of knowing how to
hear that inner wisdom and that
intention kicking in
and leaning into it quickly.
I could not
undo these things.
Isn't that why it's so
difficult for you to make changes
in your life? Because you
think that things can't be undone?
The fact is, any excuse
that you come up with, you can undo.
Tuition can be reimbursed. Apartments
can be leased. Plan B can be
invented. So I got up, I
repacked that U-Haul and I drove
out of town. I let myself
make a U-turn in life.
Go out and aim at something.
It's like otherwise your
life is meaningless. Well, what should you aim at?
Well, I don't know. Well, pick something.
Pick something. Aim
at it. As you move toward it, you'll get
wiser. Then maybe your aim won't change.
That's okay. But at least it'll
change in an informed way.
It's like discipline yourself in one
dimension. See what
happens. That's exciting.
And I think that's
something that's open for everyone.
You can do that.
I shouldn't say that because I don't believe that. I think
you can find yourself in a situation that's so
dire that there's no
escape from it. But
that doesn't matter because
there's still...
The hero myth might not be...
The best we have might
not always work.
But it's still the best
we have. And the fact
that it might not work doesn't
mean we should throw it away.
It's still the best we have.
I mean, everyone dies and so we fail
in some sense.
The fact that a symphony ends doesn't mean
that it wasn't worth listening to.
If you ever find your gut
battling your head, save yourself the drama.
I guarantee you your
gut is right. Guarantee
you your excuses can be undone.
And I guarantee you you can
make a U-turn in your life
right now if you want to.
Desire is there.
Again, it's about how do you go
from knowledge to action. So the first
thing in this story that's important is realizing
that the answer was in me.
And my mind was telling me, pay attention.
Because remember,
your brain is wired to stop you from
doing things that are uncomfortable or uncertain or
scary. It's your job to
learn how to move from
those ideas that could change everything
into acting up.
Everyone visualizes
whether he realizes it or not.
Visualization is one of the great secrets of
success. That's where we build a picture
in our mind.
When Van Gogh was asked, how do you do such
beautiful work? He said, I dream my
painting and then I paint
my dream.
Well that's the way it works.
Solomon said, where there is no vision
the people will perish.
Now that doesn't mean they're going to die.
It means their results are going to get
weaker and weaker and weaker and they're just
not going to be making it happen the way they want to.
Everyone
visualizes whether he realizes it or
not. Visualization is a
great secret of success and
it intensifies your wisdom
and enables you to make
use of advantages you formerly
failed to recognize.
I think, you know,
everything starts with a thought.
I mean, everything that you do in your life
you have to have a thought before you
initiate an action, right?
So, if you believe that your
thoughts have something to do with your destiny
like any great leader in history
understands that.
The first thing you have to do is you
have to decide, are you going to be defined
by a vision of the future
or are you going to live by the memories of the
past?
It's harsh that
the rewards of life are indiscriminately
distributed
but it doesn't help. It doesn't help to
become bitter.
Most people wake up in the morning
and your brain is a record of the past.
It's an artifact of everything you've learned and
experienced to this moment, right?
It's a memory bank. So, most people
wake up in the morning and they start thinking about
their problems and those problems are
connected to certain people and things at
certain times and places.
And the moment they start turning on those
circuits, those memories
are actually causing them to
think in the past.
Every single one of those memories has
an emotion associated with them and emotions
are the end product of past experiences.
So then, the moment they
recall the event or they
recall some problem in their life,
they start feeling unhappy, they start feeling
discouraged, they start feeling anxious.
Now, thoughts are the language
of the brain and feelings are the language of the body
and how you think and how you feel
creates your state of being. So, we could say that
most people's entire state of
being when they start their day is in the familiar
past. Well, if you live in the familiar
past, then it makes sense
you're going to create the predictable future.
There isn't a
better way to live your life. There's no
right way and wrong way. There is only
the way that gives you more energy. There is only
the way that gives you fulfillment.
When you have those things, when
you're fulfilled by what you're doing and it's
giving you the heart you pursue and it's giving you
more energy, you're on
the right path as the Greeks would say
which means you're on a
good road and that's what
I want people to understand but I don't
think that it is a universal
path and so the only universal
path is to do the things that give you
fulfillment and energy. So, if
spending time with your friends gives you that, then
you should be spending more time with your friends. If dating gives
you that, then you should be dating. So, you
don't need to want to be the best in the
world at something. You don't need to want to make
a lot of money. You don't need to want to be an entrepreneur
like all, they're literally just
stand-ins, they're proxies
for fulfillment
and energy creation.
That's it. So,
those are the punchlines of
what's the meaning of life and all of that stuff.
It is to do something
that makes you feel a deep
sense of well-being which I'll call fulfillment
and something that gives you
energy where you're literally excited to attack the
day. I start with
identities because I think that's the root
of all our challenges. It's starting
at the root, not starting at the symptoms
or the superficial or
the surface level, but let's go to
the root. If you're
playing a role, if
you're wearing a mask, if
you're dressed in clothes
that are not yours, then
you end up living a life that's not yours
because guess what? When you
fake being someone for so
long, you think it's your
reality and that's what happens to
all of us. We play a role at work, we play a role at
home, we play a role with our family, we play a role with our
friends and we think that role is us
and we lose ourselves
and to me that is the core reason
why we're chasing things that are not important
to us. A lot
of you that are running
from things instead of
running to things and
that's a huge difference.
Running from something
versus running to something
and so I want you to think about that
for a minute because
you don't have to move across country to change
your life and you don't have
to do something drastic to
experience drastic positive
change and here's the
thing about running away
from your problems,
running away from
your past. Have you ever noticed
that when you run away
it tends to follow
you? All we
have, which everybody talks about
is this moment,
this precious second right now
so the more I can be here
right now
the more I'm living
the life
that I want to live.
Too much about the future,
too much about the past, I can use those
as something to hope for in the
future, as a guiding post from the past
but right now is
the moment that every one of us has.
I never really aspired
to happy because happy is usually
determined by external factors.
I go for the joy
because when you have joy at
home, when you have joy
inside, it don't matter much
what's going on out here. You understand?
You got your joy
and you can come home to your joy
no matter what is going on
in the world. Far too
many of us have our happiness,
our peace, our joy,
our value, our worth
hooked into some external
stimulation
and then we wonder why we're stressed
out and overweight and can't sleep.
You have those scars
in your brain from life but what
we don't do is we try
to hide those scars. We don't
want to go back and revisit it. So I started
realizing that my life was causing a whole
bunch of scarring on my brain
and I had to go back
and really break open that scar
and let it bleed and
that was a very painful journey for me to go
back. Who are you letting
ruin your dreams? What scorecard are you
judging yourself by? Screw that.
This is your time.
This is your opportunity.
This new world that we live in with
access like you listening to me right now.
Access to so much knowledge. We have access
to information. This is your
time. There's no better time. There's
no different time. This is your
time. The only
way it'll happen is if you change the story in your
head. If you say change the scorecard,
change your desires,
find your passion. When people
tell you stop dreaming, tell them
I'm sorry you gave up on yours. I'm not
quite there yet. That's
the response you need to share.
Every day I'm winning.
Every day I'm winning
the other voice in my head.
So I'm very
at peace with myself.
The things I do for fun
are like me bettering myself
but I also love accomplishing
and overcoming myself
every day because every day is a battle.
Every day is a battle because
your mind wants to choose the path of
least resistance every day
but you don't become better by
ever doing that. You become normal
and I don't want to be
normal. So
it may not be a life for everybody
but I find a lot of peace in
not being normal in my life.
Dreams without goals
are just dreams
and they ultimately fuel
disappointment. Goals
on the road to achievement
cannot be
achieved without discipline
and consistency.
As
Shakespeare noted, there is nothing
good or bad but thinking makes it so.
There's nothing good or bad, right?
There's just stimulus and then there's
response but people think
that it is objectively a certain way.
So now because they think it is
objectively a certain way, they feel they are
supposed to react based on those
emotions that are getting kicked up
in their mind. If you want to
always be moving towards your goal, you want to be optimized
you've got to learn to get control of your emotions
you've got to learn to understand to tell yourself
a narrative that isn't predicated
on necessarily identifying what is objectively
true because I don't think that we experience
the world that way. It's identifying
what's going to work to get me to my
goal. Your
joy, your sadness, your happiness
your misery is
determined by something or somebody around
you. The chances of you
being joyful in your life is remote.
Is it true
that human experience, joy
or misery, agony or ecstasy
madness or sanity
everything is created from inside?
At least if you're a manager
if you're going to be a
manager, at least
what is happening from within
you must happen your way. Because
essentially management means having situations
the way we want it.
Yes. Management
means what? Having situations
the way we want it.
Well, if the world is not happening
your way, at least this one must be
happening your way, otherwise what kind of management
is this? I want to
convince you
that the human brain is a
naturally creative
instrument. It is
designed for making
connections between ideas
for envisioning DEF
and beyond.
It wants to go in that direction.
Creativity
is not a function of some freakish
genetic wiring that occurs in the brains
of a few people. It is instead
the function of awakening
and exploiting the natural
creative energy we all possess.
Well, highly
creative people have both. They have
the knowledge and the experience
plus the mental fluidity
which gives them the ability
to see more possibilities
in the world around them and to maximize
to realize to its fullest
the natural connecting power
of the human brain.
You know, it is really identifying
who someone is at their core
and starting from
that place it can be really confusing.
I think it is always a
discovery process, but I think we have
to define moments
in our life, you know, that is kind
of a helpful framework is to figure out
what are the times in our life
when we felt completely connected
and in the moment.
When did we feel like we were
rooted in
what I would call a spiritual experience
that wasn't outcome based
that wasn't based upon
making a bunch of money, but was
based about being in this beautiful moment
and going, gosh
I am exactly where I need to be
and this is who I am. So I find
it is helpful for people to first
figure out what are those moments
and that starts
to create a framework for someone realizing
okay, those moments
I can kind of describe who I am.
Is it
terribly obvious to me
what you are working on
what skills you are trying to develop
what projects you are trying to complete
to stretch yourself, to grow yourself
or
is every day another reaction
day? Because listen
if every day is another reaction
day, you are in a fixed mindset
write it down
if every day is another
reaction day, you are in a fixed
mindset. You stopped
believing in big projects
that would require you to schedule
stuff out
you stopped thinking what
skills must I master to grow
because you are just trying to handle all the
problems. Remember you are stuck in one signal of problems
challenges
are what really grow us
your life is a great story
every person's life is a story
the question is, some people's story is a warning
some people's story is an example
right now you are an example that is growing
and expanding and you have a chance
to have this be the most incredible life
but it won't be a life without challenge
and the challenges we are facing right now
give you an opportunity to grow
like very few generations
if you watch a great movie, if you read a great book
the size and the power
of the hero, how much you become
as a hero is defined by how tough
an obstacle you face, how difficult is
the villain, the opponent
sometimes when I've been to the toughest
times in my life, one of the questions I've
had to ask myself or note to myself
is, ah, I finally have
a really worthy opponent, this is
scaring the hell out of me, this is challenging
this is making me crazy
but I also know in my gut and in my soul
that if I can push through, it's just like you've
done in these years, you've pushed
through tough times, I'm sure of many of them
but as you push through those, you become
more, as you become more, something magical
happens, you don't just grow
you expand
in your spirit, in your soul, in your
capacity, in your skill, and all of a
sudden fear becomes less and less a part
of you. If you're
going to be uncomfortable
your reward has to
be big. So if
you're going to be making a change
ask yourself, why is
what I want to achieve
so important to me
why am I willing to
to, you know, use my
new willpower
persistence and why am I willing to
go through the discomfort of
change, why am I willing to
you know, listen to the negative talk
that I have or the emotion that I
have and still do it anyway
and if you don't have a big
enough reason, the first
time you have a chance for an excuse, you'll take
it or they say, you know what, I'm not happy
in my relationship and
you know, two weeks later they're back with the same
person or they find
another person just like the one that they left
or people are afraid to leave their
jobs because they don't
like the discomfort
of change. Well, the
only certain thing
in the universe, the only constant
is change, everything
that's the only constant in the universe
it's oxymoron, it's like
how can change be the only constant
the only stable thing, because everything
is changing, so why not
acquire the skill
to be comfortable
in change, the meaning
that I give, remember I said you have to reframe
things, the meaning I give
things now is when I'm uncomfortable
I'm changing and
I'm growing and then so we go through these
waves of comfort
and change, comfort and change and that's
just like the waves of life
moment of willingness and the moment of
trusting the universe
like people talk
about rock bottom, I mean
that's just a moment, you know, like
you could always go lower, to me a rock
bottom is a moment of being
spiritually deflated, defeated
essentially hating
your life and I can always
go a bit lower, but there's
always a window, I feel like the universe
from my experience
creates a window
if you do want to change, if you do
want help, a window is created
now it may not be the window you
want and it may not be this
fabulous great site you want to open
up, but there'll be a window
because all of a sudden your mindset is believing
there's a window and it believes
that you can change
and I just think there's always that opening
courage comes
from, courage means to take
heart, it's the
awareness that life is on your side
that love always wins, that peace always
wins, that joy always wins
because the higher frequencies
are way more powerful than
hate and disinterest and
resentment and animosity
and a pseudo control
a false authority
love always wins
in the universal scheme of things
so with that we take heart
we have a level of courage
and we have to have the courage
to opt out
of the old paradigm, you have to
ask yourself on a regular basis
what am I doing as I'm
opting out of the old
what am I doing?
