On 12 June 1984, one-year-old Prince William was filmed playing in the garden of Kensington Palace with his mother and father, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. In front of a press corps of journalists, photographers and television news crews, William toddled across the lawn, kicked a football, and spent time on the swings. His fascination with the cameras gathered around him was matched only by his father’s, who was heard discussing the emerging technology of electronic news gathering (ENG) with the ITN crew. The moment is often remembered as the first time William was heard speaking publicly, a week before his second birthday.

Now kick it towards that one over there, look.
That's standing up.
You're meant to stand this side.
Hello.
Come and examine them from the other side.

Where is he?
Are you looking for him?
No, he's not under there.

It's a great big camera.
And those big sausages pick up everything you say.
Start early.
It's covered in bird droppings.

Should we get into the seat?
Come back and look at that.
All right.
William.
Where's the ball?
Look at this.

I know what he's really interested in, it's the cameras.
No, no, no.

It's called E&G.

Have a look. Do you want to have a look?

You can see things going on inside it, look.
