Hello YouTube!
We are going to take you guys to different hole-in-the-wall places we think you should
not miss out on if you are east of LA.
And we define hole-in-the-walls as a place that doesn't really care too much about the
aesthetics and lets the food do the talking.
And these hole-in-the-wall places will be budget friendly as well.
And also we don't really love waiting in long lines so a lot of these won't have too much
of a wait time.
Yup.
So let's go!
Hi, can I get a small juice with celery, apple, and cucumber, the small.
Breakfast burrito.
Okay, chorizo please.
We got the breakfast burrito.
They make custom juices here as well.
I got celery, cucumber, and apple.
Ready, ready, ready, ready?
Wow!
Peter wanted chorizo so we're having chorizo today.
It's so flavorful, it has so many spices already.
It doesn't need salsa but I'm going to add salsa anyway.
They have tacos, they have literally everything.
And the whole thing was only $15 for the burrito and also the drinks.
So good.
If you're in Highland Park, you have to come here.
Yeah, we also did a video on Highland Park's free food so be sure to check that out too.
I have three items to go.
Eggplant, Mapo Tofu.
I want to get one Shanghai Bun, one order.
Anyway, we decided to bring the food home because it's really hot in there, there's
no AC.
So Can Can Food Court is kind of like a fast, not kind of, it is a fast food Chinese restaurant.
You can choose a lunch box with different various items.
We got the three items, Mapo Tofu, eggplant, and fried chicken.
But they also have other veggies, other meats, eggs, and tomato, and stuff like that.
And it comes with rice and a seaweed soup.
But we also ordered what they're famous for, and they do this really well, is the Shanghainese
buns.
The Shanghainese buns were $11.83, and then this three item was $8.
This is a lot of food for under $10.
And the whole thing only took us maybe 10 minutes there, and it would have been even
faster if we didn't get the smoothie here, lychee smoothie.
A very casual restaurant, you order your food and you walk it to your table and you eat.
Look at all this soup coming out.
Hell of soup, man.
It tastes a little bit oily, so if you're really sensitive to oil, then maybe you might
not like this, but it's nice and savory, it has a tiny bit of sweetness to it.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, this bun only comes in pork.
Yeah, it's like bursting with flavor, and the amount of texture is because it's crispy
at the bottom, and the outside is a little bit doughy tasting, and the meat on the inside
is so soft, tender, and you get this really nice balance of everything.
This is a perfect dish.
So if you're like us, that doesn't want to spend too much time waiting in line, spending
too much money, you can't really top this.
It's hard to find something more satisfying and delicious than this.
Yup.
Their menu at the restaurant, they like scratched off all the prices because inflation, I guess
they don't want to pay for another menu.
That's a sign of a hole in the wall.
That's a hole in the wall.
They don't want to redo the menu, they're just going to scratch off the prices and just
tell it to you.
10 out of 10, or whatever score, 100 out of 100.
So we went to one of our favorite mom and pop shops called Top Restaurant in Pasadena.
It's run by this Indonesian lady, and they have a bunch of Indonesian food and Hawaiian
food.
Let's see what this is.
Ooh, this is Peter's Calorie Plate.
This is one that I always get.
This is the mini plate, chicken katsu.
And then also, we were really intrigued by the Indonesian fried rice, because a lot of
people order it here, so we wanted to order it.
Usually, we'll just order two plates, but for the sake of this video, we wanted to showcase
this.
And then also, because we love Spam and Subie, we got a Spam and Subie.
Everything smells like pure deliciousness.
I would say this is on par with my Hawaiian lunch plate.
It's a mom and pop shop.
It's a true definition of hole in the wall, and you can't even eat it in there, it's only
takeaway.
It looks very dark.
I think it's chicken.
The chicken's good, it's juicy, it's not overcooked.
There's a little bit of sweetness to the rice itself.
I think it's like an Indonesian soy sauce.
Overall, I think it's pretty good.
It does have a bit of char to it, which is important for fried rice.
And I think, pretty solid.
This chicken katsu, perfect every time.
It's flavorful, it's juicy, it's just perfect.
Mack salad, perfect.
It's creamy, it has a little bit of a vegetable taste to it, I think.
Like carrots, there's carrots in here.
This is a perfect portion.
It has everything you want.
It has mack salad, it has rice, and it has chicken.
Ten pieces of chicken in here.
Wow.
And, Musubi.
Look how thick the Spam is.
Usually, some places, those fast food chains, like Oh No, they'll give you a really thin
piece.
Overall, can't be beat.
This place is bomb.
One of the best hole-in-the-wall places, one of our best-kept secrets, revealed.
One flash, iced coffee, the Cafe Zinho.
Very smooth.
It smells really bold.
It just smacked me in the face with its boldness.
Not bad.
It does its job.
And that is four hole-in-the-wall places we think you should try east of Los Angeles.
And we definitely want to do more of these.
So we're going to do part two.
And then also, if there's other ones that you recommend, we want to try those out.
Leave us a ton of recommendations.
Yup.
And, of course, please like and subscribe, and we'll catch you next Sunday.
Bye!
