Anna Bondar vs Qinwen Zheng 2026 Rome Round 1 WTA Match Highlights

One of those wins was against Sydney Karolina Plushkova. Takes the opening set. By six games to three because Zhongxin Wen had just put her weight slightly to the other side of the court and couldn't recover. So not too much between these two in the opening set. Just five points dropped on serve though for Bondar. Good enough to go clean and take the opener. Got there in the end. Little hard in mouth moment I think when she saw she'd hit it down the line and Bondar was waiting for it. Gave herself the rest of the grass court season off and didn't play again until the end of September. Played it beautifully and walked off court with the second set in the bag. Was a bit of a roller coaster in that set. Seemed to have it done and dusted. Had two points for five left but was made to work after dropping her serve twice. One of two wild cards having slipped down the rankings. Lucia Madrid. A couple of weeks ago now. Well it had to happen eventually. She keeps going. She lost here. But here's another chance to put it to bed. Quite wide again. Distraction behind her. Just adds to the tension doesn't it? Oh a fraction wide. Makes her way through tentatively through to the second round. Long one in the end. Over two and a quarter hours. Bitter disappointment for Anna Bondar. You have to say she was in control that match in the first set and twice a break up at 3-4-2 in the third. But fighting spirit shown by the Olympic champion. And she is into the second round where she will face Christina Booker.
