Spend a productive spring day in the garden with us as we tackle a no-plan gardening day full of satisfying small projects and beautiful progress. I started by planting my Japanese pansies, weeded and tidy different garden beds, added the dreamiest geranium to the garden, refreshed outdoor spaces, and share an English garden update with Sergey as we check on the French drain project and see how everything is coming along. 💕 Claudia

it's a bit of an overkill it's leveled enough it is not
hey guys welcome back today we're going to be working out in the back maybe towards the front
too we just have a random day of garden projects to get after nothing nothing that's going to take
up a lot of time but just a bunch of small things that i need to get done we're also going to be
checking in with sergey to see how he's progressing on the trench in the side garden so that's nice
just to see that coming together and get buttoned up so we can lay down our path here pretty soon
which i'm very very excited about i thought we would start out back here in the cut flower garden
because i have a bunch of plants just scattered we just got our beds prepped for our dahlias
our veggies and our other cut flowers and this kind of is becoming a catch-all space for things
i just need to have a home so the other day you and i went to a garden antique show here in portland
and i got this little stand which i'm so so obsessed with um it's definitely very
like old i would say but my idea was to have terracotta containers right up here with our
japanese spandes which look at these cuties how they're doing just the most stunning little things
ever i am so obsessed with these japanese spans as you know i've been buying these like crazy
so i'm going to plant those today and i have these little terracotta containers that i
just aged myself just how i did the other ones that i showed you guys oh probably like
what was it two or three videos ago where i took some of the bigger ones for our cented geraniums
so i did the same thing for these and it's funny because at first i was like well are these too big
these are ones that i got in england last year um and that that was way too small and i'm like well
maybe these are too big but i actually think they're going to work because i want to give
these pansies more room and then i also have some random other like pansies and violas that i've
purchased i don't even know when i got these so i'm going to find a container to pop them
in maybe we'll do like a little tabletop pansy situation right here too and then i also want
to clean out these are the baskets that we got last year and i lined them with this um moss but
it's not it's like a sheet moss and it's not very proper so what i think i want to do is take
everything out of here probably pop the sedum out into the landscape um go ahead and get rid of this
uh kale that's bolted this is from last fall you guys and it's still going we have agar in here
that i'm also going to just move out of here and then these pansies these are the japanese pansies
that we uh had last year in here i planted these last fall and i might just cut them down and then
just like sneak them in underneath some trees and see what happens to them so anyways i want
to clear those out because i have some new planting ideas for these containers and then
the other garden tasks that i want to get done today this is so bad look at this i want to come
in here and just start weeding over here look at all of these weeds and at first i thought oh no
were these um like flower seeds that you know i let go um because i did have some celosia in here
some like urtle celosia that just went to seed and they just kind of scattered everywhere but
i'm pretty sure this is a weed so anyways i want to come in here kind of clear all of this out
because it just makes such a drastic difference when all of the beds are weeded so we'll tackle
this bed first and then kind of make our way around and just start tidying things up a lot
in fact i have some peonies here that i think i might want to plant today i have this tree peony
that i would love to get into the ground and these other two i don't know i kind of want to give them
to my friend i'm not sure if i'm obsessed with these these are just like a nice pink i don't
know if this is sarah bernhardt i can't recall there's no tag on it and same with this and i
this one might be a yellow one um i don't know but i let's just think about it because i think i
can find a space for the um tree peony and then i also have these oxalis that i bought um at an
event oh gosh a few weeks back oxalis iron cross and i just think these are so cool look at that
isn't it cool so i'm thinking like even just popping them out right over here like in between
these um oh what variety are they some like canacia right here but i thought these would
actually look really pretty right down below and they have the sweetest little pink flowers so i
think that's what we're going to start out with and then if we have time i'd also like to move
up front and move some carl forester grasses we are planning to trench um some areas to add
sprinklers but there are grasses that i think i can get away with moving so if we have time i would
love to go do that today as well let's start out with our pansies first and then we will move on to
our other projects for today okay let me get some potting soil and a little bit of biotone just a
little bit for the pansies i just have the biggest infatuation with these they are so adorable
isn't that so sweet just on their own they have such a high impact on their own let's set this
aside for a sec i'm just going to mix the um antoinette series and the twilight together
while we're planting i also want to get this geranium planted this is a regal geranium
elegance burgundy i am obsessed with this geranium in fact i i wish i would have gotten
more but i think they were how much were these hold on twenty dollars i mean that's not that's
not cheap but it is magnificent so here's the thing i originally got it at bayview um nursery
when we were up there interviewing them and doing a garden tour for our garden past garden center
passport um but anyways i'm obsessed with this geranium i would love to have just a ton of them
everywhere in containers now i was thinking because we're on this scented geranium kick
this is technically not one it although it does have like a little bit of a scent to it i was
going to put it in the terracotta container but when we were up there i found this urn let me
show you okay excuse the deck because it's kind of a mess too i have dahlia cuttings let's pop
those over there okay so we have this urn that we picked up um up there and we also have one of our
stands that we picked up um when we were in olympia which we are going to go back to get our fountain
and these are going to go into the english side garden which i'm so excited about but anyways
i was thinking what if we put the geranium in here and on top of here but we have to figure
out where we're going to put it because originally this was also going to go in the side garden
what if we just tuck it in over here for now what do we think about that a lot of this is going to
be moved this tree will be moved these roses are going to be moved but i figured they're so far
gone at this point that we'll just let them bloom i haven't told this to sergey yet but because he's
so adamant about getting these moved but anyways i'm just going to let them bloom and then we can
cut them down all the way and then move them um but anyways right here i think it'd be kind of
cute should we try it let's see over here or somewhere back there no i think over here this
grass is just hideous it's it's terrible looking at it it's such an eyesore let's go ahead and
finish the pansies and then we'll see how the geranium looks over here on the stand and then
maybe that's what we'll do and it'll be like a temporary situation for it over here let's do that
we can tuck in the pansies right back here just because i think it's going to dry your eyes back
here from wherever you are whether you're on the deck or in this in the cut flower garden or coming
in through the back and i could use a little garden staple i'll see if we have any well i'll
see if this is going to be the permanent spot first and then we can use little garden staples
to secure it down but i think they will look so cute here let's see a little further back
and then this tree will kind of act as a little windbreak oh my goodness this is so cute
that is so adorable oh my gosh i want another one okay i really love the way that turned out
i might actually shift it closer to the table over here but let's just sit with it for now
and see how we feel but oh my gosh you guys that is so thank you i i could even probably pop that
into the actual garden and that would look really good like even right here in this little corner
but i just think it's so cute right there let me just give you a quick close-up of how that looks
this is what she would look like in the terracotta container i mean it looks really good
we look really cute together anyways so this is what she looks like in the container not bad
there's a spider right by my face okay got that out of the way so let's go see what it looks like
in the urn the thing is so heavy okay now you have to level it isn't that it's permanent home
okay all right with the urn on top do we love that i like that i just don't love the placement
of it i feel like it needs to be maybe like to the left of the peony from this angle
if we had plants right here i think that could work but maybe just like a little off center
off to the side let's try that is there a dahlia there there is
uh like right here i think that already looks so good it was like a little like this you know
i think we should go for it is it good i had it over there but it was too like
in your face because there's nothing planted right there yeah well right here
no because i don't even think this is its permanent home and they're they're
it is it is but i just want to yeah and plus there are dahlias back there but does it look leveled
you have a level in your hand can we use that i'm sorry can you grab a level
it's a bit of an overkill it's leveled enough it is not
let me read you the specs on this um so it requires full sun to part shade moderate to
regular water grows 24 to 36 inches tall you want to plant them about 12 to 15 inches apart
so they get pretty big i mean a good size and then they bloom they should bloom from spring
which they are now all the way into fall and you know for this i am not going to run
drip to it we'll just hand water this because again we're going to be moving it i don't think
we'll really need to worry about adding drip to this there is a drainage hole at the bottom
i think that turned out so beautiful i'll come in in here and deadhead it in a couple of days
and we'll get her watered in but oh my goodness if i step back look at how pretty that looks
oh my goodness i want like 10 more of these urns in my garden wow wow wow all right let's go ahead
and get everything else planted and this is just a little viola mix that i picked up i think i
picked these up oh my gosh i think it was early early winter maybe and i didn't plant them so they
don't look their best but they will rebound and there's actually some that seeded in the landscape
so we can always go pop some of those out and pop it in here as well these are the ones that seeded
in the ground i think these were probably in our japanese maple containers a while ago
just pop those out there's no slugs well i think that turned out so sweet this will fill in really
nicely and we'll just leave it over here so we're gonna like to have our coffee out here
if it's a nice morning i do want to either just touch up this little table or get a new one
all together it's i should have put it inside during the winter time but i didn't
um anyways but it's such a cute little area for us here under our magnolia in the cut flower garden
we love this little spot so much let's go ahead and clean out the basket so we have one and two
over there and i also just want to tidy things up over here just because we've been bringing stuff
out and i just want to set it all up i might actually move these pansies out of here and plant
some dahlias in this container right there so we are checking in with Sergey before we do our little
wrap up um what happened you should just like turn around and do your wrap up because i i think i'll
see you guys next year on this project okay we are not waiting so i was so well i wasn't sure that
don't give me the benefit of the doubt okay okay she called it spot on she was like i don't know
what you're thinking of wrapping it up okay tomorrow but i was like i'm gonna do it i have
everything is perfect uh-huh everything's perfect and here was here was my little like situation i
got myself into this piece needs to be a solid piece okay and i thought to myself because we're
not gonna have a pathway here and no rocks no stone nothing to kind of protect i got a solid
piece of corrugated corrugated corrugated that sounds like the right word you know what we're
talking about okay that guy right there and and i thought to myself like well it's gonna like
compress under if there's no support no protection okay so i'm like i'm gonna get a solid i'm gonna
get abs okay i got all my fittings everything and i started gluing it okay and the glue set
and i'm here yeah or were you just too slow no yes both and and i just start to panic i start
to panic because i'm now i'm trying to like pull it out and i can't so i have this piece that is
like in like that that much okay it's like that much in okay and and i'm sure in perfect conditions
if i just have some more glue and it'll be fine it's gonna break okay the joint is going to break
and before you came here i'm like taking the pipe and i'm like trying to wiggle it out wiggle it out
it won't come out so the glue set so now i have to take my saw cut it uh-huh and um
and i i'm not gonna be able to do that today so you win you win um what do i get i anything you
want really anything really i i failed big time okay let me this is i gotta be strategic about
this one no no no a real handshake that wasn't a proper handshake and but at least we did okay so
we probably won't film like doing the rest of it i think what we need to get the rock
no we will show um i i think um when we get the rock okay just bringing that in and then uh
whatever else yeah and then kind of like uh measuring out the stone and situation oh for
the pathway yeah it would have been nice if i had rock because here i laid this stuff down
and it's just kind of um uh it's not sitting flat it's not sitting flat right uh because
well there's nothing to weigh it down okay and if anybody's asking what's going on here
what the jimmy rigg situation is this uh we had a little land erosion as you can tell right
well was it because of all of the rain well and it was also because you guys kind of dug the hole a
little too big you and my brother the first day you're like dig happy the very first hole that
uh-huh and we dug it like it was so odd too because i was like okay i'm not i blame your
brother i blame him he's 26 because i told him like better just just draw like a straight line
okay and i and i walked away to cut the grass okay because i had to um and this is and and i
can't come back and it's a little big and well it looked like a warmer just look how beautiful that
so beautiful and then here it just opened up so what i did was i we had these old boards in the
shed and i kind of used them as a little foundational support i backfilled it and the
idea is when we bring in the rock right i'm gonna we're gonna dump the rock in and i'm gonna just
ying these boards out okay um yeah okay my goodness we are so close like but but the lucky
thing is we have the weather on our side because it's there's no rain on the forecast knock on wood
one two three that you know that's kind of old rocky wood can you find a better piece of wood
what is wood so that is kind of the update so once it gets that situated then we can go down to
the rock uh where i don't know yet where we're gonna go i think i know where we're gonna go but
um we can go get our um rocks for the actual pathway so this is kind of like and they will
no we can't get it they're gonna have to deliver oh are they oh because there'll be a lot there's
gonna be a lot yeah i hate it i'm so cheap i'm like what can i do to like offset the cost so i
don't have to pay the delivery but that basically the idea is gonna put rock down yeah hold it down
because it is a little like snakey up and down sure um and then over here once i fix my situation
i'm gonna um i have the fittings right here oh cool um yeah we had everything yeah and i got a
whole bag of goodies in here yeah you do um so i'm going and i have to cut a few um pipes because
they run away oh okay and you'll just reconnect those yeah i'm gonna do is i'm gonna kind of bring
them up and over and oh got it okay so that's that those are the white pipes are the ones for
our irrigation so our drip system that's what these are so all of this is irrigated we just
have to connect and i i'm just so embarrassed right now because i feel like that's the only
logical thing to do other than digging the pipe much deeper but uh i'm just gonna kind of elbow
it up and over and back down which is fine so if there's a professional out there if i'm uh
if i'm wrong please tell me tell us what we're doing wrong but it's just water it's not even
like really high pressure it doesn't need to go perfectly straight it can make a few little
this is old house right this is how things are they're not perfect they're not perfect nothing's
perfect here it's perfectly imperfect okay and in terms of our progress everything is looking
so much better in this bed i came in here i weeded everything i love my hori hori this is one of my
best friends in the garden my friend christine got me my first one and then ever since i've been
getting them all the time mainly because i keep misplacing them but i'm gonna link this one down
below if you don't have one i like this one specifically because it has a really sharp
solid edge and then it has the this like jagged edge and i literally just scrape the weeds and
they just come out it's so easy it's kind of like using a hula hoe but this allows you to get into
like the little nooks and cranny of everything love love love love oh i didn't pick up my mess
over here oops so i still need to come in here and pick up this mess but we got everything weeded over
here if i swing you guys back around this way i ended up not planting the oxalis so this one over
here is not an invasive one i know several of them can be but this one tends to be um pretty
controlled and it's going to get i think about 12 inches tall maybe 12 inches wide but i'm thinking
this would actually be really beautiful in a container so i'm gonna save these three to put
in a container instead and then i ended up not planting the dahlia that i wanted to i i kind of
oh gosh i may actually sneak in three dahlias in here and see how they do but anyways we got this
little area all tidied up i still want to come in and blow everything um tomorrow it's getting a
little bit late so i'll wait to do that tomorrow this area is nice and buttoned up and then over
here is where i planted um some of those pansies and i will put sluggo down because the slugs
love these pansies and again i just wanted to have them right underneath the rose over here
so we can enjoy them this whole bed over here i am going to be mass planting
um some annuals for for the summertime so they'll kind of be intermixed i'm mainly trialing these
uh in this bed to see how they do in the summertime specifically so i'm not going to be
planting a lot out in the landscape i mainly want to plant them in containers because they do so
well in containers and of course i still need to come in and plant these guys i just dug them out
and i'll just kind of leave them right there so they don't dry out and then i'll just pop those
under a tree somewhere i think they're so beautiful i forget the variety but they're so stunning um
last fall and then we got the baskets all cleared out as well so i'm gonna get new liner and then
we will plant these up um as well and of course we have our beautiful geranium on the sand right
over here which is just probably one of my favorite projects of the day that is just so
beautiful to me i can't wait to shift this into the english garden and also the other urns that
we purchased together i just think this looks so beautiful i just have to water water it in
but oh my gosh it's just like a pop of color in the perfect spot anyways i think that will wrap
it up for today's garden projects i am super happy that we were able to get those things done
it wasn't one of those garden days where we're doing a lot like we're not planting a ton of
things but it's those little details that really do make a big impact getting everything cleaned up
getting more things out of the cut flower garden that doesn't belong there planting things in their
home everything just looks so much better and it just it just makes you like breathe better
do you know what i mean it's just like spring cleaning everything is just coming together
slowly but surely it's all coming together anyways thank you guys so much for hanging
out with me today in my garden and i will see you guys in the next video bye
