Took a little drive to Ulverston, nipped into M&S, come and have a look what I got.
Thought I'd, I nipped in, I was going to say Morrison's, I nipped in Aldi,
cross the road and I thought we'll have a little wander in M&S, see what I can pick up.
And I seen this, noticed it was new. So it's a Melton Mowbray pork pie, our best ever,
made with select cuts of pork shoulder and diced Silverdale, wrapped in a hot water
crust pastry, little traffic light system there for the nutrition. I won't worry too much about
that, it's a pork pie. I've actually been to Melton Mowbray and had a proper pork pie,
very, very nice indeed, many moons ago. So the price, wait till you hear this,
£5.50. How much for a pork pie? I hope it tastes good. Let's have a look at the packaging.
So it's not any old pork pie this you know, it's an M&S pork pie, wowzers. So let's have a look,
let's go around the sides. Used by 13th of May, British outdoor bred pork with roasted
pork stock jelly. Oh I love that jelly, I do love that jelly. Yes, got some spiel there, look,
there it is. Go on, I hope it is full like that. Right, let's go around the back. So we've got a
GB sticker, 440 grams, yeah there's a bit of weight in it. Seasoned, uncured pork in a hot
water crust pastry. There's the ingredient, British pork, 50%. We've got allergen of egg in
there. Made in the UK with M&S assured pork, from farms in the UK, that's good isn't it. Not suitable
for freezing. For allergens, including cereals containing gluten. See ingredients in bold which
we've covered. There's more nutrition there if you're bothered. It's a pork pie. Right,
I might have covered everything. There it is in there, look. Now I've had this, it's been sat,
well it's been out of the fridge now for over half an hour. So it should be at room temperature,
it should be at snaffling temperature, let's just say that. So let's get it open and see what we've
got. So what do you have your pork pie with? I like mine with some brown sauce, I do like a bit
of brown sauce on a pork pie. So let's get into it with the old one finger and belly technique.
Belly's going to get you. I think mine's already got me, look at that.
Some weight in it as well. It's like a very, very heavy snowball. I don't know why I said that.
Don't know why I said a snowball. Anyway, we're coming towards summer. Right, I'm going to get it,
put it on a bit of a chopping board. I'm going to cut it in half. We'll have a look at it. It's
been a while since I've had a pork pie on the channel. So I'm just going to chop it in half
that way, like that. Oh yeah. Have a look inside here. That's what you get, look at that. Oh,
that jelly as well. It's full, that jelly. Yeah, I'm going to cut it again. I'm not going to eat
it all now, this will be at least a couple of sittings. I'll just cut it down there and we'll
it down there. Oh yes. There's another view of it, look. Yeah. Right, I've got a plate here,
I'm going to get some brown sauce on it and I'm going to get into it, hopefully. Well I am,
never mind, hopefully. So there it is. I've cut it again. There's that jelly there, look. I'm
stuck into that bit. I'm going to try it first without the dipping into the old brown sauce.
I'll finish this. Oh, that is lovely. That is tasty. I love that. I've got to pick that jelly
up then and the meat is lovely and soft as well. It's a little bit hard, it needs to cool down a
little bit more to be honest. It's been about half an hour since I've had it out the fridge,
but the centre really needs to get to room temperature. It is a bit cold, so it is a bit
hard, but it is tasty. I love that hot water pastry as well. It's lovely. It really is.
It's not too peppery. It's well seasoned with salt, but I'm going in again. I do like it.
Yeah, I'm picking up a little bit of pepper then. Let's try it with a bit of brown sauce. Look at
that. I've run out of Stokes brown sauce. That's been my favourite at the moment. I got introduced
to it. I'm getting all technical here, aren't I? Yeah, well I've been to M&S. I'm getting all posh
and that. I've been introduced to Stokes brown sauce through a lovely comment I got a few years
ago and I actually purchased some. I'll have to stop going to M&S. Yeah, I bought some and
we've run out. I'll have to get some more. It ain't cheap, but it is tasty.
That is lovely. I'm going to struggle not eating all that pie, I tell you. Today,
it'll all get eaten. That's for sure. My wife likes pork pie as well. Yeah, I can't wait.
Can't wait for later. My wife's at work now at the moment, so when she gets in, she'll be
snaffling straight, snaffling into that. That's for sure. We'll finish it off. I might have to
finish half of it off now. Five and a half quid. Please let me know what you think in the comments.
Yeah. Yeah. How much? Not any old pork pie, this. M&S. I suppose you have to pay for taste,
for premium, don't you? I mean, it would be... I know you can get Melt & Mowbray pork pies,
can't you? Side by side comparison with the Melt & Mowbray. This is a Melt & Mowbray pork pie.
M&S. Thanks for watching. I do appreciate it. Please keep your recommendations coming in.
If you've got any, just send me a message, a comment, and I'll try and get hold of the food.
I do appreciate it. So take care, all the best, and I'll get back to you on the next one.
