Cinnabar's Chinese New Year specials are here!
Just as acupuncture can relax and calm, it can also be used to boost energy.

So we're going to be demonstrating the energizing acupuncture, which is our Chinese New Year special this month.
And like with all of our acupuncture treatments, I'm going to take the pulse on both sides.
I'm going to take a look at the tongue. I'm going to hear the symptoms that have been going on with our patients.
But we're really going to focus on energy.
So one of the points that we're going to needle for energy is going to be stomach 36.
And this point is really amazing to tonify the earth element in the body.
The earth element is responsible for taking in the food that we consume and breaking them down into usable nutrients.
So really it's where most of our energy comes from.
So the point is located right below the knee.
So I'm going to swab with alcohol.
Can you take a deep breath in for me please?
So I'm going to do maksa on this point.
And maksa helps to energize and tonify the point as well as move if there's some stagnation or cold there.
And I'm going to use something called smokeless maksa.
And it is a little pellet of smokeless maksa.
And we have a little basket that we put it in.
So the basket fits over the needle.
And what this does is it makes it a lot cleaner process.
We can also get actually raw maksa and make a little ball out of it and light it on fire.
But it's a lot more risk involved in that.
This is a safer option.
So I've lit the charcoal and I'm going to let it sit in the basket.
And what that's going to do is it's going to warm the needle and send that energy deep into that point.
And it's going to help to bring energy to the body and also strengthen the digestion.
How does it feel Jessica? Does that feel comfortable to you?
I'm just barely aware that there's a warm feeling on my leg.
And I just feel really relaxed.
It feels nice.
And then usually after the acupuncture, the patient will lay here for about 20 minutes.
When there's maksa, I don't leave the room.
And then afterwards, probably I'll do some cupping and some compressions on her back to help her relax as well.
