Hey guys, how's it going? It's August or September 4th. It's Labor Day weekend. Me and Luis are back
and back in at it again. Hey guys, grateful to be here, you know. Definitely I want to
shout out to all of our service members, troops, anybody out there that's serving, you know,
Labor Day is, it's all about, you know, service. I feel like it's all about service. We all live
lives of service, so I think that's why people get the day off. But if you're like us, right,
we still grind on Sundays. No, thank you guys. Today, what we want to talk about, I feel is,
we want to talk about fear a little bit and like conquering it, but I really want to talk about,
you know, just the guts about going in business, right? Because it takes guts to do anything great
in life, guys. It takes courage. It takes going out there and being uncomfortable and being willing
to, even not being good at something, like you have to have some ******* courage to go out there
and try anything new, right? And you have to dare to be great, like it's ******* hard, right? And
for example, I could use Thomas right now, right? Because he did something that, you know, I know
we talked about it a little bit when he was starting his shop and I came in to get a haircut,
but he went out and he did something crazy that a lot of barbers, especially in this phase,
they're uncomfortable doing, which is one, he became a premium service, right? He separated
himself from the rest of the barber shops by offering an elite service, right? Pricing it a
certain way, offering certain options, and then he had the courage to go appointment only. So he
switched his whole business model in a way that not a lot of barber shops are doing, right?
That takes courage guys, because, you know, it's, it's, I mean, everybody, you know, gets a haircut,
right? How many ******* barbers are out there? Like it's, it's a competitive market. And like,
it's easy to go out of business, especially if you're not rendering quality service, it's easy
to, word of mouth will ******* destroy you. So to have the guts, not only to go in there,
but to stop taking walk-ins, to start being like that elite. Cause at first I'm sure it must've
been like nerve wracking, like thinking like, what the ****, you know, like, should I go to
appointment only? Like, am I going to be missing out on business or like, how am I pricing these
haircuts to like really make a difference? Cause there's not a lot of barbers out there making
90 plus dollars an hour guys. There's just not. So. I just got lucky because I invented my own
route in the sense of when I did the appointment only, it wasn't, it was really because I genuinely
cared about what I was doing. So it came down to appointment only really made it feel to the, you
know, I've been in other barber shops before and I've cut hair and, and I feel like when you're
taking a walk-in and there's someone in the seat you know, there's seven walk-ins waiting, you
might tend to hurry on the client or whatever. I really built this business based on factual
reality. And, uh, and, and I felt like if appointment only number one, you get a client
that's very serious because he's booked an appointment. So you're dealing with, you know,
people that are detailed or serious. They want to get a, you know, the right cut, uh, appointment
only also allowed me to, uh, be able to focus on that client, uh, specifically. So to have
Louise in my chair and it's appointment only, I don't have anybody walking in. These guys all
know I don't answer the telephone during the haircut or, or any of that. Hey, I refer back to
this guy's Andy Warhol wasn't painting a ******* masterpiece and, uh, you know, answering the
telephone at the same time that that never took place. So if you claim it's, it is what it is,
it is what it is. The appointment only stemmed from, uh, me being able to, and I'm highly
obsessed with this craft. So it really became me being able to, uh, you know, really be able to
focus in and hone in and concentrate on that person's haircut. I think from that point,
it accidentally grew and became, wow. You know, someone came in and said, ****,
this is an amazing haircut. Uh, you know, and then it started being able to, you know, manifest in
its own sense and way. The organic growth and everything is probably broke. And that's why I
******* love what you did, bro. Cause it's like, you didn't even do it to get the $90 an hour.
You did it for the service to the craft. Like I really want to pay attention to this guy when I'm
here. Right. And it's like, it's like things that I do with my coaching where I tell people like
when I'm coaching, I'm not charging you by the hour. Like sometimes I'm there with you for
two hours cause I'll lose track of time. It's like, are we doing this ----? That's why you'll
be rich. You know what I mean? And like, and I know it is that about you where it's like,
not only do you want to take care of the customer, but he doesn't even want you to feel
uncomfortable while he's taking care of you. So he doesn't want people walking in and crowding you
while you know, they're waiting for a car. And you know, now you're feeling like he's rushing
through you to get to other people. So it's a very professional service that he did for his
clients, not for himself. And it ended up bringing that money around, which when you want to make
money, don't make it about the money. And it'll be about the money. It's ******* weird as that
sounds. I put that on Jesus Christ. That's by me too. Yeah. And it's like, uh, look, I love money,
but I don't want to make it about the money. It has to be something organic and something real.
It'll turn into the money. So the greater your services, the, you know, the greater money that
you'll eventually make it. It's real. And the thing about that guy is like intentions *******
matter. And people can feel that that's why two people will have the same job title, the same
craft, the same opportunities, even to a certain extent, the same skill, but one ************ is
doing it for the wrong reasons. And one of them is doing it out of pure love, right? There is a
correlation between loving and giving. When you love something, you give, you don't take more.
You give like, I love my kids so much. I do anything for them. I give you love your partner.
You want to take care of them. You want to give, you love your craft. You want to serve. You're
at the gym. You just want to do more, right? So there's, there's a direct correlation between
living, I mean, loving and giving. And I don't know about you guys, but I'm a man of faith and
God so loved the world that he gave what it's on his son, right? And he gave because there's a
correlation between loving and giving. So the love to the craft, the service has to come first.
And then the money follows. Like it's all about becoming that. The money will follow. If you're
money driven, let me give you a scenario to put what he says into perspective. Okay. So I'm cutting
hair and I'm, and I'm all about the money, which, and, and, but you're, you're all about the money.
You're about nothing else. Look, the client that I'm on the haircut with, you're going to go a
little bit quicker to get that walk in there because you're all about the money. What happened
in that instance was you got more money that day by one more haircut. You made 50 more dollars,
45, 30, 20, whatever it is you charge. Uh, but you lost the client that was in the seat. He's never
going to come back. The guy that was a walk-in doesn't even ******* live in your state. He's
headed out tonight. So you lost two clients in one swoop. So I guess that's, that applies to
everything, right? Like it's, you don't hear it often from a barber shop point of view. That's
why I resonate with this man so much, but anything in business guys, it's, you got to think about
the longterm. You got to take care of people on the longterm because that's what makes you wealthy.
And like, like anything in life, guys, like if you work for a big cell phone company and you work
for anything, like you'll notice that eventually all these services have been sold and it becomes
about retention. It becomes about keeping the customers happy. Right? So if you can master
that in your business from the get go, like he has, like I provide a service first and you're
leading that way, you're staying in business and the business will come to you. It's, it's a crazy
thing guys, but it's, it's all about leading with integrity, which is leading with integrity and
leading with love guys. Cause there's, there's driving motives behind all of us. And if you're
leading with love or if you're leading with lust, you know, you'll, you'll go a different way.
Right. And by lust, I mean, you can lust for things, you can lust for money, you can lust for,
for cars. And that's called, sometimes it's called envy, but it's, it's generally you're
doing it for the wrong motives. So sometimes you'll notice ---- doesn't happen or even what I
think is even worse, it'll happen for you and then you'll feel empty and unfulfilled inside.
And what then? What happens when you get everything you want and you still don't feel good about
yourself? You achieved it too quickly and it wasn't, you weren't ready to achieve it. Or
there's no driving motives behind it. And yeah, it's cool to have all those nice things, but
so what? You don't have the right people in your life. You don't have the right experiences. You
stepped on everybody to get there and then what? Right. So lead with service guys, lead with love
and you'll see it. Like I've seen it with my own eyes in this shop. I've seen it with my own eyes
out in the outside world. Right. But if you guys need more examples, like, like you said, you know,
Andy Warhol, any, any great entrepreneur, any great artists there, it's a dedication to the
craft. Andy Warhol wasn't kicking out paintings and ******* taking walk-ins. That's just a,
you know, and guys, the happiest times I've ever had in my entire life was when I lived in a
******* halfway house on old cores in central and didn't have a ******* dollar to my name
was probably the happiest time I've ever had in my entire life. So, I mean, you know, I'm going to
soon find out how to have a tiny bit of wealth and be able to find that happiness back as well.
There's something about intention that when you're doing it with the right intentions,
it's a lot more fulfilling when you get there, right? Because when you're doing it out of love,
you want to give. And when you want to give, you tend to get more, which is it's law almost,
you know? So the more you give, the more you get the secret to living is giving. So go out there
and take care of people. Go out there and render your service. You know what I mean? You can't give
everybody money. I'm not saying give every homeless man money, but find out what your gifts are and
then go out and ******* serve with them. If you're going to do a haircut, be the bad-ass barber that
takes care of the customer for an hour and a half. It's like, hey bro, when you're with me,
you're ******* with me and I'm going to take care of you, right? So whatever it is that you do out
there, go out there and be great. Dominate it because like I said, whatever it is that you
want to succeed in, it's applicable. You want to be the best coach. You want to be the best barber.
You know, there's not a lot of people that aren't great at what they do. Truly great. So as soon as
you start taking care of the customer, you set yourself apart. Nowadays, guys, it's easier to be
great than ever because everybody's so comfortable being mediocre, right? So you have a chance to set
yourself apart and I think it's surround yourself with people that are doing it in your area and
start stepping up because even if you're a plumber, even if you're a ******* lawyer, a doctor, a barber,
a coach, whatever it is that you do, if you switch your motto to, I am going to *******
service the hell out of this person, the money is going to follow in proportionate amounts.
Guaranteed. That's how it works, guys. I mean, you got to, whatever service it is that you do,
you do it to the cream of the crop. And that's why I accidentally named the shop, you know,
Superior Integrity and Respect. And that just means for every client that comes in,
you know, superior in the way that I've trained myself and cut hair for 30 years,
integrity in the sense of all of my tools are clean. I pay all of my taxes. I do everything
the right way. Respect in the sense of, you know, respect to, you know, to do all of those
things for this client and everything and, you know, treating everyone with respect.
Go out there, guys. Conquer your fears. Be bossy enough to lead with love. Like it takes guts to
lead from that point of service to put the money aside. Everybody wants to make money, bro.
Everybody wants that. Be ******* different. Take care of people. You know, be the best version of
yourself. At the beginning, there's a buffer, but trust me, you are where you are right now
because of the choices you've made in the past. So once you start changing your choices,
it may not happen overnight, but commit to a life of service and you will see it.
You will see that change, you know, whatever it is that you do, give your best. You know,
I love working out. So what do I do? I show up and I give it everything.
He loves to cut hair. So what does he do? He shows up and he gives it everything.
You love something you got to give guys. So, and this is where we come together for you guys. We're
both passionate, ultra about what we do and our, you know, passions tying together, mind and body
building. You guys got to go check, Luis out on YouTube. All my followers. Hey,
hi to everyone on Luis's channel. It's a good channel, mind and body building,
you know, follow Sir Men's Salon. Likewise, all of you guys, you know, follow mind and body
building and everything else. You can find Luis on Instagram. It's going to be Luis underscore
Baca. The L is a one. And then you could find me Thomas Baca Barber always on Instagram and
remember guys, some people have never been close enough to greatness to realize that
it's actually, it can be pretty ordinary because it lies in the little things, right? So associate
yourself with people like Thomas with people around you that you can see that are putting
in the work because entrepreneurship work now, business like life, it's the principles are
universal. You know what I mean? So associate yourself with people that you see are winning
and you know, they're winning because the people around them will let you know,
you know what I mean? It's, it's not the way somebody talks about themselves is the impact
that they're making around them that I can really give funds of character and you can see it when
you render service, people will, they will uplift you to places that you couldn't climb on your own,
right? So go out there, lead with love guys, conquer all those fears and who gives a ****
what people say. Find your gift and go out there and give it away for free and just watch the
money go there. It's crazy. That's right. You guys have a good Labor Day weekend and we'll
see you guys next time.
