Although hair clippers have become ubiquitous in all barbershops and salons the world over, there is still a romantic edge to traditional scissor cuts. We would never seek to do away with their electricity powered cousins, but we think shears deserve their day in the sun this summer. Here are seven of our favorite tasteful trims.
A taper fade – often referred to as a taper – differs from a classic fade in several ways. Both involve gradually cutting the side and back of the hair short while leaving the top section longer. However, a taper fade is cut shorter and can result in fading down to the skin at any point. We have rounded up many different types of fade haircuts to help you figure out which style will suit you best.
And just to even show you like what equipment I'm using, that way you can know,
I'm going to do your scissor haircut with these Damascus shears. Those were handmade in Japan,
1500 Mizutani. And so I'll be using those. I'll be using these blending shears by Mizutani.
And I will be using, for the detail work, I'll be using my gold swords
and Mizutani. And then for texture, I'm layering the metal 100, metal 1200.
Wait, did you break your wrist there in an actual game? No, no, it was in practice.
And so does your brother play basketball too? Yeah.
Right, and how old are you? 50. And how tall are you? 6'11". Nice.
Wait, so what school do you go to? De Pueblo. Oh, nice. So wait, you're a freshman? Sophomore.
Oh, nice. Oh, yeah. Pretty good. A's and B's pretty much. Yeah, you continue. Yeah.
I did message him back to you. Yeah. He was just like, I got back home too late.
So what's your brother up to now? Oh, yeah, because today's a holiday. You guys don't have
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, I'll even like actually cut an extra set of bangs, like
separately cut your bangs to make sure they're not in your face, but also separately cutting
them that way, we're not going as short as your bangs will be like with your whole haircut.
Okay, yeah. If that makes sense, keeping the haircut layered and you leave and then also
Yeah.
And how did you guys first find out about this place? I think we're just looking around.
Yeah. Well, what do you like about it?
You can do a really good job every time. So a lot of like commercial haircuts.
I really appreciate that.
And how do you usually style your hair? Do you just have it coming down and everything?
Kind of just like push it over.
Over to the side?
Yeah.
Which side do you push it over to?
This way.
This side gets trimmer picked up and it'll be longer down here. And I know it's exactly what
you're talking about. Just look better too.
Look longer, but it's still having it cleaned up and everything.
Yeah, it's pretty good.
And that way when you get back in the car to your dad, he'll actually see that,
oh yeah, he did get a haircut. It's not like, oh, it's just too long.
Well, obviously that'd be pretty cool, but I don't know if that's possible.
Wait, why do you see the NBA as impossible?
It's not even possible, but it's pretty great.
Yeah.
You can feel the difference with a scissor cut.
I can feel through your hair and it's fire. This is just a portion of what I did. So now
I did the base of the cut. Now I start adding details with like around the ears and everything
else. Now you'll see how this looks. This is a homeopathical service that's elite.
The difference between this one and the clipper haircut too is everything is done with my
Yeah.
Right.
Challenging.
So you guys, and I just did the base of his hair. So like the base of his haircut's done.
Now I'm adding these details. So I added a layer to the side, added sub-texture up top.
I gave him, you know, the trim that he desired. Now I'm able to add these
fine details to really bring this stuff together.
This is just a light touch underneath the long hair.
And then you still have long hair.
Now guys, he wants it longer in the back. You can see how the front is.
The back's going to be like this, but I'm still going to pull the back of his hair out
and also just blend it into what's happening here. See where that blend is guys.
Like I'm just taking my nano-cuttered metal shears. They grip the hair just perfectly
and adding that detail. Also adding just another connection.
See, this is the thing when you wash the hair out before this service,
or when you should be done, is you can tell how the shears just glide through the hair.
You can hear that cut and that's what's good.
Guys, 1821 man-made paste. Approximately, probably that much. Rub it into the hands.
And I want you to see standing up too, watch. I'm going to just preview this,
that way you can see in the mirror, because I want you to move it around just slightly too much.
All right, watch. Come up to the mirror right here and look at the back too.
You'll have to slide in here. Watch, turn this way. Watch, face me. Come over here, watch.
You got a little bit taller and I wasn't going to tell you that. Lean down a little bit.
I love how you cut. That's cool, yeah. All right, sick. Oh yeah, I appreciate you.
