Hi guys and welcome back to the channel. Today's video is all going to be about improving your
impact by focusing on where the trail shoulder is just post impact. Let me explain. So I've clearly
put here on the ground a yellow alignment stick pointing at my goal. So that's representing
contact point when the club is going to be striking the golf ball. And what I want to do
is make sure that just post impact, when the club is parallel to the ground, that my trail
shoulder, so for me my right shoulder, is level with that yellow stick or past that yellow stick.
So a lot of golfers I meet have a problem where their body is too static, their pressure hasn't
moved enough to their lead side. And this is perhaps a different way of thinking about it.
Rather than focusing about where your pressure is on your feet, let's focus about the upper half.
Because if my upper half tilts back, my trail shoulder is way behind the golf ball for too long,
my contact point is going to be early. So I'm going to be hitting fat shots, heavy shots,
unless I compensate, pull up and then of course it's tops and fins. So if I just do a little
punchy half a swing here, and I'm going to stop when the club is parallel to the ground,
and you'll clearly see that my trail shoulder is past the yellow line. So at that position of my
golf swing, my trail shoulder is past that yellow line. It'd look very different if I show you the
wrong movement, just so you can compare. Same little half swing, my trail shoulder here is
just slightly behind the yellow cane, and it was definitely a drop kick, there was a boom,
there was a ground first. Now I'll get away with it a little bit more for a mat course for Willoff
turf, and you know what's going to happen. So we're focusing on the trail shoulder, almost
collecting the golf ball. I always give golfers and like the analogy that their trail hand,
so that's my right hand, is going to feel like it's going to slap the ball. So it's collecting
the ball here. We're not doing it from this way with my trail shoulder back and pushing,
we're feeling like my trail shoulder and trail hand are working together to collect the ball.
So I could simply hold that club so it's running down the inside edge of my trail arm from my
trail shoulder, and my hand is in connection, my hand is effectively the club. And we're just going
to come down into the pre-impact and get that sensation again. So we're slapping the ball here,
I'm in line, and then I'm ahead of that line just post-impact. Now the only reason I'm telling you
to stop here rather than impact is we can't hit the ball and stop, but we can stop just post-impact.
So I love getting people working on impact, stopping at this position here. Let's show you
the good one again. Ball, turf, strike, trail shoulder, clearly path, the cane that's on the
side, no hanging back, and then I just build it up. So it's a little half swing, let's go three
quarter, and then I'm going to try a full. So this one's just going to be more chest height,
I'm still going to see if I can stop short, and I'm not worrying, that was a great strike, I know
it's a little left, but my trail side clearly ahead of the yellow line there, my pressure firmly into
the lead side, and up, not staying down, we've got to move forwards and up. If we stay down too long
again that's going to cause those duff strikes. So let's get that trail shoulder collecting the ball,
and then moving up and rotating. So we really want to feel like our body's a little bit more open.
Let's do one more of those three quarters, just focused a little bit more on my path on that one.
Priority isn't really the direction, the priority when we're doing a drill like this is that strike,
that quality of contact. I'm going to go one full one, and it shows by my quality, my smash factor
there, good number, I'm hitting down on the ball, I'm getting the ball first, all the things that I
really want to see with an iron. So let's do one more of those, but a full shot, just a little
left of my target, but again great contact, really feel like I collected that ball, trail shoulder,
focus point, getting it past the golf ball is really simple, and something you can definitely
do on the drive and range practice area. Just get that alignment, stick on the ground, pointing at
the golf ball, focus on just post impact, getting that trail shoulder past the cane on the ground,
and it's really going to help you get that ball turf strike with your irons. Give it a go, if the
