This is the ancient site of Sacsayhuaman in the city of Cusco in Peru, South America.
Archaeologists believe it was first established by the Kilke civilization
and later expanded by the Inca into the massive fortress or temple that we see today.
Some have compared its towering ascending terraces to descriptions of the ancient tower of Babel.
Was the resemblance simply a coincidence in architectural design
or could there have been a deeper inspiration behind it?
Some have said that this may have been either the tower of Babel or a version of it.
It's a large mound. It just spirals upward.
Every layer has megalithic polygonal blocks resting up against the side of it
until it goes all the way up to the top.
Of course we see smaller stones surrounding the large monolithic stones
but these are either from modern reconstruction or the Inca reconstructing this.
I'm walking along the side of the second mound as we can see here.
This is a giant mound with monolithic blocks surrounding it.
Some people have said this is tower Babel.
Some people said this is just another version of it.
Some have even said it's just a coincidence that they would make
a giant citadel, temple, whatever this is could have just been a another version of tower Babel.
So while this was reconstructed we could see the indents where blocks used to rest on top.
These black blocks would rest on top be pushed up against the side and as we can see here
there's a crease going up and then to the right this is where a block used to be
resting on top of here and it definitely had more blocks going up.
Most of these blocks were probably used to fix up the city of Cusco.
Spanish probably took a lot of these blocks or the blocks that they could extract
that was not that heavy and this is a base.
This is the foundation base of the temple and as you can see they built right into the stone.
You can see a ridge here there's another one another one this is extremely flat.
And very smooth too. It's pretty incredible because it would make ridges right up the top
of the block for another block to be rested here and not even just square blocks would have
grooves in here so probably catch the weight distributing the weight of the wall possibly
for making an earthquake proof they wanted this temple to last so this is why they made it this
way. I'm on top of the adjacent megalithic mound across from the ancient citadel or temple of
Saqsaywaman. You can see here all the megalithic or monolithic blocks each layer going upward.
This area used to be a tower. I want to take a look at this. Geologists have said that this was
naturally formed. Magma flowed down here slowly creating these grooves and made these strange
smooth rounded features on the rock which are very different. It's a little strange because
look over here it's just a mesh of rocks very jagged edges but looking at this one side
it's almost mixed in together. See here it's a flat smooth curve on the rock that goes down
right there as well and here as well too. There are a lot of grooves or stones cut
stone cuts into these rocks here which I'll show you in a minute. It's almost as if this
was definitely done by hand. Take a close look right up see that these are just lines running
down. It's a channel of some sort coming down through here possible for possibly it was for
water irrigation or if they created anything elaborate maybe it was some type of pulley
system to come up here you know ancient gondola system no not a gondola but ancient elevator of
some sort you know they would have a cart that would come it would start from the bottom and
be dragged all the way up here. Let's keep going up here. I'll just show you something
it's a little strange two of these protuberances coming out of the rock. These lines go
and they stop and then they keep going again so if this was lava
you know lava formed this naturally why are these here they're just build up of lava.
We're gonna have to use Occam's razor everywhere or is this done on purpose for another purpose of
you know water irrigation or like I mentioned before a way to get up on top of this stone
mound as we can see here these are flat bases here so a stone used to rest on this same thing
for the adjacent side here stone was right here another stone here created some sort
type of channel right here is this to walk down did water flow down through here
are they distributing water throughout this ancient temple or was it part of the system to
get up here it is a little bit of a hike to get up here and most importantly this is called the
throne here there are multiple bases let's start from here just go up they look like steps
called thrones but what really was here were actually stones placed on top this is a base for
stones to be set on top of so if there were stone blocks
ascending here some blocks ascending here this place was open so you know I mean if these were
master stone builders and everything here was planned out almost everything
and this had to serve as some sort of purpose I wanted to point out something very interesting
that I saw I'm looking at this you know rock side doesn't look like anything special but
when we look up close it still almost looks a little natural but when you look very close to
here it's just straight lines here natural or was this a tool that they used
