Welcome back to another episode everybody. So previously we made strawberry jam but did you
know the young gnomes have another favorite recipe? Do you guys know what it is? Ice cream.
Oh they love ice cream but I'm thinking of something else.
Brownies. Oh brownies are good too but not quite. What else is there? Butter cookies. You're right
it's butter cookies. How did you know? I like butter cookies too. So right now I'm going to
show you guys how to make butter cookies and I'll be making the demonstrating how to make the batter
and then you guys get to try it yourselves. Awesome. Okay so to start we've got this scale here
and then we need 100 grams of butter. So I'm going to take this knife
and you're gonna cut off a chunk you think might be 100 grams and then you take it.
Oh my gosh. And then after that so we're going to put this onto the side. We're going to save that
and then put that here. Okay and so then we're going to put the next bowl on. Now we're going
to take the sugar which is this one here. For the sugar we need 40 grams of sugar. So I'm going to
carefully move it in and you guys tell me when to stop. Stop. No. Oh no no it's good. The number
has got to hit 40. And then I'm going to take that butter and I'm going to put it in this bowl
and then we're going to take the sugar and we're going to put it in as well. I'm going to show you
guys how to do it first and then that bowl there is for you guys. So then you guys are going to do
it afterwards. So then you take it and then you break it up and you mix it together. So
it's going to become you want all the sugar to be mixed into the butter until it's like cream.
Yeah it's like a vanilla color. These spatulas are nice. You can scrape it off from the side
like that and then you get it back in the middle and it's all mashed together. And then after that
our sugar and butter have been all creamed together. So this stuff is very tasty. You're
going to take this egg and you're going to crack it. So you put it in and then you keep mixing it
like this. Mango and cream. Mango and cream is so good. It's like delicious. So I've also whisked
the butter, the egg and the sugar here. So we got it like this and then now we're going to
add the flour. So Ellie could you pass me that sieve please? Yes. Perfect. Yes just this one
and pass me the flour. Good. The next step. Actually first we have to measure the flour.
For this we want 120 grams of flour. We're chill. It's good. Okay so and then what we do is because
you look at look guys look carefully at this. There's all these big chunks in the flour right?
But you don't want to eat a cookie and have like a big chunk of flour. So we're going to take this
and you're going to pour it in here because this has like little holes in it right? And you put
this in and then you just go like and they all go in. In a moment you guys are going to try. So
you guys can see it. It's like snow. Yeah you gotta try and not get it on the table.
Yeah so this is like a baking trick that you can use. And then you can also just go like this and
it'll also go through because sometimes it gets stuck. So you go like that. Look at it raining.
It's so beautiful. Okay and it's all in and then this one we're also going to mix it up. So this
is a nice rubbery edge. You can just carefully you don't want to waste any flour. So we're going
to move it back into the bowl. Get it off the sides and then we're going to mix it. And so
with flour you don't want to be too intense or it's going to be like and then you're going to
like because it's all over you. So you just very gently go fold it. Fold like this and then once
it's basically together you can go a little faster. Yeah it looks like this. Okay so you guys see it's
nice and smooth now. So we're going to roll it out. We're going to take all this dough and we're
going to roll it out. And so first done with style. And then we're not going to go like this
because it's too sticky and this thing's going to be like that. So you take this you fold it in half
and you go like that. And then you're going to take these corners here and you're going to
fold them up a little bit. So it's like we're doing origami too. And then now that it's kind
of like in this nice bag thing we're going to roll it up. So you go just gently. I'll
push it with my hands first. It's like very sticky. So just gently. It's kind of hard to roll so just
move it as best you can. Once it's about this size. So we want it to be about like a quarter
of a centimeter thick. So if you look at your fingernails and then you have your pinky finger
right and about half your pinky fingernail that's how deep it should be. So it's like half of my
pinky fingernail. Well maybe my finger is a bit bigger than yours. Maybe it's about your whole
pinky finger. Yeah as long as it's about that thick then you're good. We're going to take it
and we're going to put it in the fridge because right now it's like too soft. And once it's in
the fridge it'll turn hard and we can stamp our cookie shapes. Okay so to the fridge let's go.
Come with me. Okay and there's a nice spot up here. Now it's been 30 minutes and we're going
to take our cookie dough out and as you can see it's like kind of hard. We just carefully peel it.
It's so fast and it's hard. Okay and then we have these lovely shapes here and then you can go on.
Patience is key and let it come out. And then I'll make an acorn.
It's like once you push it in don't just leave it like that. You want to wiggle it around a
little bit because once you wiggle it it gets loose and then it'll be easier to peel later.
Then you do the careful art of peeling. We're going to remove the cookies. Instead of pulling
the cookie out because that's going to like that might stretch the cookie. We're going to try you're
going to try and carefully peel away the outer edges. Okay guys I'm going to take the cookies
out of the oven. So these are our beautiful cookies and as you can see we have our little
squirrels and our acorns and each of you can have one. Just pick it up gently and
careful a little bit hot. Can anybody guess how long we baked these cookies for? Oh yeah 240.
How long we baked them for? Oh um let's see 10 minutes. That's right it was 10 to 12 minutes
in the oven and does anybody know what degree in Fahrenheit we baked it for? 240 degrees. Ryan?
Yes 340 degrees. So we baked them for 340 degrees in the oven. Now we're going to make something
else. So we're going to move this out of the way. So here's what we're going to do. We're going to
make little gnomes with the brownies. Good. This is a piping thing and then you cut this off like this
and then what you can do is you squeeze the top like this and your icing comes out and then you
can make it into a pattern. So I'm just going to make it into a swirl like this and you guys
all see I'm going like that and then what I'm going to do is I'm going to draw a beard. Squeezing.
So this is the beard. It's like a beard with flair. It's like anyways and then I take a
strawberry and this is going to be the head of the gnome and I put it on top like that and then
I take one of these cocoa puffs and my gnome has a nose. Look it has a nose. That's my gnome.
If you guys want to make a gnome too you can make a gnome or you can use all of these delicious
ingredients and decorate your brownie however you want. Yay. So go wild. Have fun. Yeah go for it.
So everybody very genteel take one brownie.
Oh oh but one thing one thing look so when you guys squeeze the piping you want to squeeze from
the top because if you push from the middle all of this is going to go and hoist it. So you squeeze
from the top and down. Yes squeeze from the very top pinch from the very top so all of it gets
squeezed out. Yep. Three, two, one. Happy New Year.
