Let me help you improve your English today.
All you have to do is listen and repeat after me.
Hello my English learning friends.
Welcome back to my channel.
If you are new here, welcome.
I'm Kirsty. I'm British and I teach English in France.
Today we are going to practice shadowing.
So you are going to listen and then repeat exactly what I say.
Exactly how I say it.
Don't worry if you don't understand every word.
We are focusing on the sounds and the flow.
Your goal today is to sound more natural.
We will be focusing on questions and answers when
getting a haircut,
at a doctor's appointment,
asking for help at a supermarket
and returning a broken item to a shop.
I want you to listen first,
then repeat the client or patient sentence twice.
Let's get started.
Notice how I would like a becomes I'd like a.
I'd like a.
And a trim is what we say when we want a hairstylist
to cut off a small amount of hair.
How much would you like me to take off?
Just a little. Maybe this much?
Short back and sides is a common way to describe a simple men's haircut.
Yeah, just a bit longer on the top, please.
For a woman's haircut, you might hear,
Shall we add some layers in the front?
Now, let's move on to a doctor's appointment.
What seems to be the problem?
I've been feeling really tired lately.
How long have you felt like this?
For about a week.
In natural speech, the T in about is often not pronounced.
Are you getting enough sleep?
Not really.
I've been quite busy.
Not really.
I've been quite busy.
And do you have any other symptoms?
I've had a bit of a headache and I often feel nauseous.
Nauseous pronounced.
Means you feel like you are going to vomit.
Next, asking for help at a supermarket.
This time, you are going to repeat the first sentence.
Excuse me, do you work here?
Yes, how can I help?
Do you have any broccoli?
Let me check for you.
And where can I find the milk please?
It's in aisle 5.
Do you know this word?
Aisle.
It means a long passage between shelves in a supermarket or a shop.
Excuse me, is this on sale?
And finally, let's imagine your new phone is broken
and you need to take it back to the shop where you bought it.
Hi, I'd like to return this phone please.
Sure, what's the problem? Is there something wrong with it?
Yes, the screen isn't working properly.
Do you have the receipt?
I have it right here.
Thanks.
Would you like a refund or an exchange?
I'd like a refund please.
A refund means you get your money back.
An exchange means you swap the item for another one.
Well done everyone.
Don't forget to go back and repeat each conversation again.
I hope this speaking practice has helped you.
