Turin is the elegant and historic heart of northern Italy, known for its royal past, grand architecture, rich food and coffee culture 🇮🇹
We spent 3 days Turin and it feels like such an underrated part of Italy. We visited the Lavazza Museum to learn about the history of Italy's iconic coffee brand, visited the Church of San Lorenzo, Turin Cathedral, the Mole Antonelliana, spent a lot of time at Piazza San Carlo, hiked up Monte dei Cappuccini for the best views in the city, walked along the River Po and of course had some great food, excellent coffee and aperitivo! , Click 'SHOW MORE' below

A traveler explores Turin, Italy, highlighting its authentic atmosphere, rich culinary traditions, and stunning Alpine views. The journey balances visits to historic landmarks and museums with personal reflections on the city's relaxed pace compared to Italy's more tourist-heavy hubs, offering a glimpse into the local lifestyle and the charm of a city less touched by mass tourism.
I'm so excited to be in Italy. We literally took the first flight out of Stansted airport this
morning so we've kind of been up since like midnight. Don't ask but it is 10am here I think
which means it's 9am UK time. We arrived at the hotel to drop off our bags and they very kindly
said our room was ready so we were like perfect, freshened up a little bit, we're kind of starving
and I'm desperate for a coffee. I only had one, didn't have one at the airport because I was like
I'm going to Italy, I need good coffee in my life so I thought I'd wait until we arrive.
Somebody walked into the lift but we're just leaving the hotel to go and explore
and it is so beautiful here. I've got my google maps open and you probably won't be able to hear
me but I need to navigate to where we're going. Is our first stop lunch or coffee?
Brunch. Okay whatever we find. Eat first then coffee. Yeah good plan. I really just want to
drink all the Aperols and go to all the aperitivos, just live my best life and one thing I absolutely
love about Italy is I have to do zero restaurant research because everywhere will have vegetarian
options. Why am I not wearing my sunglasses?
Turin is home of the fiat, I think it was invented here and so was not quite Nutella
but hazelnut chocolate so there's a lot of like Ferrero Rocher and Nutella here I think
and it is absolutely stunning here. The walk here was really beautiful too but this is definitely
where like all the tourists are and where it just feels like Italy. There's someone
somewhere here playing some live music and it was just insane but look at this. So I think
there's a cafe here that we need to go to. I've pinned it on google maps but I now can't remember
if it's food or just a coffee. There's one over there and one somewhere there but we're just
going to walk around and look at all the mountains you see like peeking between the streets.
It's just so stunning. Oh my god this place is so adorable, this is called Cafe Torino.
I was warned they might have a queue and they don't but it's actually just coffee and like
sweet treats. I always forget that cafe with a double f means coffee here but it's just so cool
and the whole place smells insanely good like coffee but should we get some food first and then
come back here? Actually just get gelato from a hole in the wall, it's so cute. Oh I love this
place. Stop! This is not the place to come if you're lactose intolerant is it? I love tiramisu
so much, oh man. Ordered a couple of sandwiches for lunch, been the most gorgeous, no queue to
get in here but it's only a queue if you're talented so that's a really good sign. Just
look at these ceilings, they're so incredible and the couple in front of us were really helpful,
they said that you don't need to queue if you just want to get a coffee because they do like
loads of sweet treats and stuff here. If you wanted a table you'd have to queue which is
what we've done because we want a bit for lunch. I don't know what the sandwich is going to be like
because I feel like Italian sandwiches and maybe it's not too filling because I want to try bits
of vegan while we go. We got a Aperol spritz, obviously a Campari spritz and then you get
all these little sides, she said that's just bread, chips, some olives which is very exciting
and two sandwiches. It's very crowded in here so we asked to move tables to the corner which is a
bit nicer but a lot of people just come in here to order an espresso at the bar and just drink
it on the go so it does tend to get quite busy. We've moved locations to Cafe Torino, the first
place we've moved into. Oh we've ordered, thank you. I've just ordered an espresso macchiato with
I need coffee so badly, it was just so Italian, like so much.
Look at this, okay that's a Bitterin which is coffee, hot chocolate and cream I think,
that's the traditional drink from Turin. I just got an espresso macchiato, really bad feeling
every time I'm in a different cafe and I can't tell, I've just tasted a little bit of the foam
but I really hope it's not dairy, I just need a strong cafe fix but can you try some? It's not
So we're sat outside Cafe Torino and there's the tourist sculpture on the floor and we didn't
notice it at first, you know drunk, and loads of people keep stamping on it or intentionally
stamping on it in one area so I had to google it on Jax's phone, turns out this bronze iron
statue is located near Piazza San Carlo which is where we are, opposite Cafe Torino, legend has it
that trampling on the bull's genitals will bring good luck so do you want to trample on the bull's
genitals Jax? They always say grab the bull by his horns but this time grab the bull by his balls
Just walking down Via Roma which is a very high-end shopping street here, that's Piazza
San Carlo back there that we've walked down from and I actually went into the Bialetti shop because
I really want a Bialetti but I'm not going to buy it here because I've only travelled with
hand luggage but now we're just walking down to the Egyptian museum which is just behind here
I just want to show you the view without getting run over but can you see through all the streets
you can see like the mountains and the trees and stuff and it's so oh and it's so beautiful
we just walked through the uh national museum and there's like a little street market on in
the courtyard I've seen like something really cool that I think I might buy it's like kind
of pricey but it is handmade which is what I really like about it um let me just show you
so you get these like little things that you hang and I think I might buy this one
well it's really hard to see I'll show you in more detail if I buy it but um
I'm being blinded by the sun these are so cool it's basically like a little mobile that you
hang I thought I'd make a really nice addition to one of my gallery walls I'm gonna browse and
then come back I think work it's a genius yes a really good quality it's very nice
so I came back for my little lady reading the one that looks like me and two other people
were interested so I was like I'll just take it but these are so cool I love a little handmade
piece of art but it's like a flying carpet oh it's cute and they ship abroad by the way so
this is what it's called we've come to a little hole in the wall place I read somewhere that
they do vegan gelato here but I'm not entirely sure but either way I don't really fancy any
I'm still have a little bit of jazzes so stracciatella or pistachio
thank you grazie
okay so they don't do vegan gelato the guy looked at me like I was a crazy person but
just got pistachio and he's got uh custard yeah oh my god I had a little taste test of
each flavor and that pistachio tastes like nothing I've ever tasted before
like it actually tastes of pistachio that's really really doesn't it
I like it do you like it I don't like the custard so much do you
it's nice but not as nice as pistachio I also think we're standing in a taxi rank
but there's like nowhere to sit people are gonna sit on these like bollards here but they're not
actually seats and yeah um oh that pistachio is insane I'm just not an ice cream fan but
gelato sorry same difference god that gelato was so good like I literally had like five spoonfuls
um but the coke was really good good morning it's a really cloudy day today but we had such a nice
sleep yesterday we were awake for over 22 hours and we walked almost 18 000 steps so we were
shattered we had a really late dinner and then just crashed because of course restaurants don't
open until about 7 or 8 p.m here in Italy we're now walking to the metro station and we're gonna
go head back into the central area again we're going to try and find some breakfast
I hope it warms up a little bit because it is quite cloudy uh can we cross
no it's red so we think that's the metro station where we're staying it's like so quiet and
peaceful around here that's our hotel but it is kind of in the middle of nowhere there's literally
two restaurants here maybe three and we were a good like 30 minute walk to the central area
yesterday we didn't realize that we were stopping to take photos and stuff it took us almost an hour
so we're gonna jump on the train today and then just see what we do journey was so quick I cannot
believe we walked for almost an hour yesterday and the train took us about five minutes like
what the hell only two stops as well just so quiet it is nothing like Rome or Venice Florence
or anywhere else I've really been in Italy to be honest it's it's just so nice it makes such a
change um I think it kind of reminds me of Italy like over 20 years ago but especially when I was
in Naples um because it was this quiet then and not very touristy I think we're going to cross
the road here right Jess if you can see um we're just surrounded by all the Alps in the distance
and it's just so nice you just get little peaks of mountains I did want to go up there but
tomorrow it's 90 percent rain which is really annoying and today a lot of things are closed
but I did want to go to this um Basilica of Superga but oh yeah oh this is Porto Nuva station
this is the main train station in the city actually stumbled upon this market and it's so
cool it's all vintage booksellers some of the books are really vintage actually obviously
they're all in Italian but there was one published in London in 1948 just around the corner I feel
like this must be a Sunday morning thing it's so cool some of the books are literally one euro
um up to five euro I just love how busy it is I just love how all these people are so excited by
books I just love it so much look he's just made some really great like coffee table books
and just tell people that I understand everything that it says
well they're probably not they're probably actual books but imagine this like on my
coffee table and I'd be like yeah I understand this like I just seem so intelligent not joking
when I say it this place goes on forever all the way around here and this is just one side
of the building books have some like vintage stuff here as well so we have zucchini and
cheese and I hope you enjoy thank you so much thank you
the river and the views here are spectacular I think there's Parco de Valentini uh I think
somewhere down there I'm not entirely sure we're gonna cross that bridge and then we're gonna go
up there I think and I think we're gonna come back this way so we've just crossed over
and now I think we're at a petrol station is this a petrol station
I um you want to go to a castle I want to go to Monte de Cappuccini just because I love
how that's pronounced my hay fever is not loving this environment but it is so beautiful and I love
this weather so much 49 minutes I've got about five minutes to go to get to the top of the
mountain there's a lot of people getting taxis here and this is what past Nishi would have done
so I'm very happy with myself where's Jas gone many good views on this side
that's where we're headed though aren't we yeah oh this is Ristorante Monte
de Cappuccini I just love saying that so much we're finally here I think I hope but um
oh I cannot wait to just sit here on the floor if I have to this view was so worth it how stunning
is this and it's a beautiful day for it as well my weather app says it's cloudy but it's just
the right amount of sun and clouds we had a delicious lunch ordered way too much food I
thought I was getting two small starters and I basically ordered two main courses but now
we are at the Museo Lavazza a coffee museum like I'm not someone that loves spending a lot of time
in museums I feel like it takes a lot of time out of my holiday in often things I'm not that
interested in but this one has my name written all over it I'm not a big fan of Lavazza coffee
in general but maybe in Italy it's nicer there we go I believe the entrance is through here
you get a free audio guide to share turn the cup around it's so cool it's an interactive cup
so you place it down on the exhibitions where you see a circle and a big screen will play play
I love this so Luigi Lavazza had his wife and his daughter helping him and it says that the
presence of women in the company plays an unusual role for the time-defying convention I love that
forgetting I'm vlogging we've just had a whole evening so we went back to the hotel to get
changed then we came out for aperitivo which honestly did not disappoint I mean yes sure I
could only eat the cheese and the gherkins and the olives and there was like a little
pastry thing that was cheese and tomato it was delicious um now we're having dinner and it is
oh my god it is 20 I don't even we can't see 20 past nine but we're not hungry we'll be hungry
later but this is a problem being in Italy people eat very late we walked past this restaurant and
and he was like yeah we're like what time do you close and he was like one and I was like in the
morning what a Sunday night anyway we're here I bought a cacio e pepe basically this restaurant
that we're at I walked past it twice yesterday and I was like they do cacio e pepe and I haven't
had pasta yet on this trip but I loved that in Rome I had it like every single day this is my
second aperol spritz today and um I had two yesterday hopefully this is good because
everyone just seems to get it spot on here in London I always have to send them back
they're like sorry you haven't made it correctly and as somebody that's worked with aperol on
numerous occasions and used to be a brand ambassador or whatever I am I know how to
make the perfect aperol spritz and I'm sorry but 90% of places in London do not
so this has been such a treat I spoke too soon all my aperols here have been amazing
I've just tried this and that is a lemon slice it's not an orange and I can taste the lemon now
that I've seen it it's a good aperol like they haven't used filler like tonic water or lemonade
or whatever they do in the UK that is very very wrong because they skimp on the prosecco and on
the aperol itself and actually they put too much soda water in it but it's a lemon
sorry I'm in Italy anyway um my phone is trying to speak to me I'm very excited for dinner even
though I'm not hungry in the slightest but cacio e pepe who doesn't want like I think this tagliatelle
or spaghetti or whatever pasta rolled around in a big ball of cheese like a cheese wheel
no this doesn't look like much okay because honestly it's just a beige meal but hopefully
this will taste epic look at this doesn't burrata just make everything look so good wow
I feel like we are in quite a touristy place because I don't think they normally put parmesan
like this on a table it's very it's giving me like pizza hut from the 90s vibes or early 2000s
you know when they had the little um chili flakes shaker and the little parmesan shaker
on the tables and you used to help yourself that's what it's reminding me of but oh I'm
so excited for this it's not gonna ooze out by the way oh yeah wow that pasta is so al dente
it's incredible guys I don't know if my taste buds have changed or what but
I can't eat this I first of all it's so rich and it's so heavy and I am actually really full
that pasta is cooked to perfection like it's so al dente the cheese is so heavy and I wasn't even
um I've also realized that this place is very touristy so I don't think it's authentic first
with the lemon slice of my apple second with the second with the grated parmesan on the table but
also I don't think it's meant to have this much cheese on it and because it's gone cold now it's
all congealed I also realized what the cacio and cacio pepe stands for because pepe is obviously
cacio is short for caciocavallo which is a cheese that I actually had at lunchtime
and didn't love because it was so heavy the cheese that you couldn't cut through the knife
tear it off with your teeth it was like baked it's too much I think I'm like 90% cheese 10%
apple after this trip well maybe a bit of bread as well 70% cheese 10% bread 20% apple that's
I'm so done good morning we've just got on a bus to come to the mole and we wanted to not go into
the museum but take the panoramic lift up for the views and it's sold out until Wednesday today's
Monday um apparently you have to buy tickets in advance and select a time slot and he said keep
an eye on the um website because sometimes people cancel their tickets so we're not going to make
it unfortunately I'm going to show you I mean you can't see it from here it's such a huge building
but I'm really glad we went up to um Montego cappuccino yesterday because that's obviously
the best view of the mole anyway I mean it's gonna be really hard to see I'm not standing
in a good location for it but the best view would have been from there but it's a huge crane
so we're just gonna wander around here yeah we're in a nice area yeah it's funny this is the first
street we've been to that is so touristy like all the shops here sell like magnets and like
postcards I don't think anyone's in my I haven't seen anyone selling postcards magnets anywhere
else no but I also don't think anyone's ever sent a postcard since I probably last went on holiday
with my parents in the 90s it's just so pretty here it's our last day we've got about five or
six hours before we need to head back to the hotel get our stuff and go to the airport so we're just
gonna wander what do you think I feel right not too bad
into the church of San Lorenzo this is the holy water and I'm going to pan you around to show you
look at the detail in the ceiling it's just incredible three minute walk away from the
is Turin Cathedral or Duomo di Torino as the locals call it I've been wondering why there's
so many people standing here outside but this doesn't open for another four minutes that's why
the other one opened at 3 30 and now it is almost four o'clock and it looks really busy there is a
church tower that I think I saw we could we buy two kits for something to climb but it doesn't
like it's that high and it also doesn't look like the views here are that great
that's the church tower I mean I assume that's the tower it's the tallest thing here but this
is our last stop of the day and we need to head back to the hotel to grab our things and head
home so I'll take you inside and then I'll end my vlog yeah that's that must be the tower
the sofa's so deep I feel like I'm lying down and we've just got back to the hotel
we're just waiting for our luggage and we're gonna get on the bus to walk down to the station
which is about 15 minutes then get on the bus which is about 37 minutes to get to the airport
and do all the rest of it anyway so I thought I'd end my video here because we've had such a
great time in Turin. Turin is such a great city to come on a long weekend break it's currently
bank holiday Monday in the UK and we got the perfect flight so we flew out at 5 55 am on
Saturday morning our flight home is at 9 pm tonight so we get home at like 10 11 pm perfect
um I highly recommend it it really reminds me of when I lived in Florence 21 years ago
but at that time before it got really touristy before the internet before blogs before
YouTube channels before people just went everywhere it's just such a great city but
anyway I really hope you enjoyed watching this video thank you so much for watching
and I will see you in the next one bye
