Governor Healey is rolling out new statewide guidance for how some places
should respond to ice. Boston 25 News reporter Ali Mario is live in Boston
alley. This narrows down rules for places like schools, hospitals and
churches.
Yeah, the guidance lays out key rules on how these institutions should respond
to ice agents. This means who's allowed in private areas and what warrants are
required. And it also comes after an executive order was signed earlier this
year that would essentially keep ice out of vulnerable spaces. They can make
clear where ice can go and where people can be safe. Under the new guidance,
ice agents are not allowed to enter private or non public areas like
classrooms, hospital, patient areas or places of worship without a valid
judicial warrant. It lets our schools, colleges, daycare centers know how to
student privacy, how to interact with ice agents, how to get legal review for
any warrants presented and how to deny access to classrooms, dorms or other
non public areas unless a valid judicial warrant is confirmed. It also
prohibits the use of state property for immigration enforcement staging
operations. The guidance encourages institutions to create response plans,
train staff and protect confidential information, including student records,
private health data and other sensitive information unless disclosure is legally
required for places of worship. The state recommends developing visitor
protocols and educating congregants about their rights. Our teams are doing
outreach and have been doing outreach to make sure that community
organizations have this information, have the training and can put it into
effect. We're also posting public facing guidance on our state property to make
really clear that ice is to stay out. The rollout comes as clash continues
over immigration enforcement tactics. They're still refusing to tell us who
they've taken from our state. I've been demanding this information for months.
This is about simply put, keeping Massachusetts safe, keeping people safe
in Massachusetts. The state is also rolling out an online portal for people
to report alleged ice misconduct or any other enforcement concerns. For now, we

mass GOP and ice for comment on this new statewide guidance rollout. We'll
let you know when we hear back.
