Rather than resigning, they are taking an extended unpaid leave with the security of their position being held. The speaker aims to use this time to rediscover their passion, explore content creation, travel, and establish a more disciplined personal routine away from the corporate environment.
Guys, I think we should be celebrating.
We are officially done. I can't believe it.
As you guys can see from the title of the video, I'll be going on a career break.
So today it's my last day. I've already done all of my handovers and finished my client
and so today is just going to be a very very chill day. I just need to submit all of my timesheets
and also finish my mandatory training modules. Thankfully, it will be a very chill day today
because my brain is definitely not functioning today. I only had two hours of sleep yesterday
because I just had a lot on my mind and my mind was just racing like crazy. I couldn't
fall asleep properly. I think I'm just going to try to relax a little and not overthink this
too much. I keep telling myself this will be a very exciting new chapter. I'm just going to
enjoy it. You know, it's not too deep. It's not a big deal. I'm just going to enjoy the next six
months and see how I go. So I am currently getting ready to go to work. I think I really clarified
this earlier but I am technically not resigning and I'm not quitting my job just yet. So technically,
I am still employed with the company during this time and they still hold my headcount. It's just
obvious that I won't be getting paid while I'm on my break. So this is almost like an extended
unpaid leave. I'm very grateful that Career Break exists and it's a thing in my company. I'm able to
go on a break without having to actually quit my job. So this is a very great safety net and I also
think my camera is a little bit laggy today. So please bear with this. One of the main reasons
why I want to go on a career break is because I've been feeling a little bit motivated recently.
Part of me also has the itch to try and invest my time in other things. I feel like this may be the
best time for me to go on a career break given that I don't have that much responsibilities
right now. I am just all by myself. I don't have obviously family that I need to look after and I
don't have mortgage or debt and so I can go on a break without having to stress too much about
money. Obviously money is going to be an issue. Money is always going to be an issue but it's
going to be less of an issue now given that I don't have all of these responsibilities and I've
also been working for four to five years now so I do have some savings that I can go on without a
full-time income for now and also a little bit of money from YouTube. It's not enough. I'm still a
very very small creator. I don't earn much from YouTube at all but it's still better than nothing.
It's just like pocket money for me every month. Content creation is definitely one of those things
that I really want to explore but it's not the only reason why I want to go on a break. I feel
to try different things, test the water out, see what I like and what I don't like and hopefully
gain a new perspective by the end of this. I think the big thing for me is time because you can't
buy back time and realistically if you have a full-time job it's also really hard to make time
for other things so that's why I decided to just take the risks and go on a career break for six
months because I can always go back to corporate given that I've also had a lot of experience
and I've also done my CA. I did everything that I'm supposed to and I know that I'm incredibly
privileged to even do this because not everyone has a chance to go on a career break. Guys I think
we should be celebrating that this is my last day and I will be free from corporate for six months
and then I will have to come back eventually so yeah. I'm going to bring my dance coach with me
as well because I'm planning to go to dance after to dance it out.
Just got my afternoon workout and I came to the rooftop. I don't usually come to the rooftop but
I thought that might not just come up to the top look at the view and enjoy you know my last day.
The skies are starting to clear up a little. It's currently
4 p.m and I need to start heading down soon because I need to return my laptop, my charger
and my work pass. Those guys they leave around 4 30 so I need to start going down soon to return
my stuff. It still feels very surreal to me. I don't think it has fully hit me yet. I'm feeling
very excited for this new chapter but also nervous because I'm just really scared that I will feel
very comfortable and complacent when I go on my break. I definitely need to be more disciplined
and start building my new routine and put some structure in place otherwise I'm just going to
waste my time and not being super productive. Content creation is not the only thing that I
want to do on my career break. I also want to use this time to explore and try other things.
Definitely need to post and make content more consistently because now that I won't have a
stable monthly income coming in, my income kind of depends on content creation now and that's very
very scary. By the same time I started YouTube as a creative outlet and I told myself that I don't
want to put too much pressure on myself. It's okay if things doesn't really go as well but I just want
to enjoy the journey and kind of find my spark again and I also want to do some more traveling
because I haven't been traveling that much recently. I didn't travel at all last year
because of my move to Melbourne so now is a good time for me to explore other parts of the world
and I'll also be sharing my journey and more updates through my usual vlogs on YouTube and
I also just want to say that I am very very grateful for my team and for my colleagues
because they have been so supportive. I was a bit scared to tell people at work about what I
actually do. Like I never really told anyone from work about my YouTube channel until like recently
until now but surprisingly most people at work have been very very supportive and they were
actually really really nice and encouraging so yeah I am very grateful for my co-workers.
I'm going to start heading down and return my laptop. Guys, we are officially done. I can't believe it.
I'm at the change room now in my office building and this is the last time I'll be able to access
this area. I'm going to get changed now into my dance outfit and I need to drop off
my parts on the way out. I'm late to dance for once. I'm just going to prep the veggies now
and then pan fry them. All my veggies today are spinach, shiitake mushroom, some bean sprouts and
then I just got a stir-fry veggies mix and for protein I'm just going to eat some beef roast
and of course we need some rice. Okay, let's prep the ingredients now.
Before I eat, I'm going to quickly show you guys the gift that my friend
Julianne got me. She got me a little bow hair clip and it's so cute. It's very very my style.
She is so sweet and we'll get lunch together sometimes. I just really want to dump her.
I think we are both introverts trying to thrive and survive in the corporate world.
Thank you, Julianne. I hope you continue to do well in corporate. Cheers!
Let's mix this bibimbap. First bite.
