Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis video provides a tutorial on a card-based mentalism effect and promotes a bundled mentalism pack. The featured routine uses a deceptive \"deal or switch\" principle to create a foolproof prediction without sleight of hand. Additionally, the video showcases two other professional effects, \"Private Property\" and \"Deranged,\" offered as a discounted beginner-friendly bundle.
I have been messing around with this principle
for probably 30 years, and I finally came up
with a handling and a presentation I absolutely adore.
Can't wait to share the secrets.
I'm gonna perform this in just a second,
share all the secrets, but I'll tell you right now,
it only uses 16 cards, okay?
So super portable, there are no slights involved,
no sleight of hand, no gimmicks involved, okay?
Instantly resets, never misses,
is this wonderful psychic kind of moment,
and the ending, the ending is super visual,
very dramatic ending.
In fact, at the very end of this video,
you're gonna wanna stay tuned,
because I'm not only gonna perform this and then teach it,
but then I'm gonna show you a little bonus handling
at the very end that really makes this
just an extraordinary effect.
Just before I perform and share all the secrets
to this very cool mentalism effect,
I wanna draw your attention to something
really exciting happening for just the next few days
at psanchimagic.com, okay?
It is a two-for-one mentalism pack,
featuring two of my best-reviewed mentalism effect
I've ever created, and here's the cool news,
they're both super easy to do.
So if you're just getting into this stuff,
there's no sleight of hand required
for either of these two, all right?
It's a two-for-one deal, total $60 value,
all for just $29.95.
And here's the first of the two featured effects,
this is Private Property.
You ask somebody to think, just think,
of any card in the deck, they can even change their mind,
it's 100% free choice.
Then you spread out the pack of cards
and let them touch any card they want,
and again, it's 100% free choice.
And only when they're holding a card in their own hand
do you have them name the card they're thinking of
for the very first time.
And when they turn over the card in their hand,
and it's the one card they were thinking of,
everybody freaks out.
Private Property comes complete
with a full-length tutorial and an ingenious gimmick
designed for bicycle brand playing cards.
But once you learn the very cool secret,
you'll be able to adapt the principle
to any brand of playing cards in the world.
And Private Property doesn't just work with playing cards,
you can use the same awesome gimmick
to gain secret knowledge of people's middle names,
astrological signs, phone numbers, even their PIN numbers.
You're gonna love astounding people with Private Property.
Private Property really is one of the most versatile gimmicks
I've ever created, okay?
It's groundbreaking, it's innovative, super easy to use,
and imagine being able to, you know,
as I just mentioned in the preview there,
be able to look into someone's eyes
and name their middle name,
or the first name of the boyfriend they ever had,
or their approximate account balance,
how much money they have in their bank account.
On and on, you look them in the eyes,
you're able to name the color of their underwear
right there and then, okay?
So, you know, there's so much magic,
so much stuff, cool stuff you can do with this, okay?
So do not miss this very special offer
featuring Private Property.
Let me show you this very cool effect.
The theme is simple.
Life is about making choices.
And it's not just the choices we make,
the what or which choices, but the order.
The order of our choices is everything.
Say, look, I've got two different sets of eight cards.
We'll get back to these in a moment.
You're gonna have a spectator put her hand on those,
or whatever you want to, put a marker,
make sure no one can tamper with those cards,
what cards they are, and their order.
You say, with these eight cards,
you're gonna make eight choices.
You're gonna help me rearrange the cards.
Now, with each card, I'm gonna hold it out and say,
do you want me to deal it straight down
or switch it for the next one?
So maybe the first one you let me deal.
And if I switch them, it would look like that, okay?
You might want me to switch these.
Maybe you want me to deal the last three.
It's totally your choice of which cards I am gonna deal
and which cards I'm gonna switch.
Then you ask the spectator, here we go.
And the spectator has a 100% free choice.
There's no quivocay, there's no going back and forth.
Say the first card, deal or switch,
and they say deal, okay?
The next card, deal or switch, they say deal, fine.
The next card, deal or switch,
now they do want you to switch the cards, you say fine.
The next two cards, deal or switch,
again, they say switch, okay?
And the last two, deal or switch, they say deal.
100% free choice of how they wanna rearrange the cards,
okay?
And yet, you show, one,
they had eight different choices to make,
and impossibly, you somehow were able to predict,
not just half or three quarter,
but literally every single one of their choices.
As promised, at the end of this video,
I'm gonna show you another handling for that
that literally doubles the impossibility,
really builds the drama.
I love it, I'm gonna show you that
a little further down the video here.
Now, if you're familiar with this principle,
I think you'll agree that this is a wonderful,
having the two packets is a wonderful,
clean and dramatic way to present this very cool deception.
If you're not familiar with the principle,
get ready for a big surprise.
You're gonna love this, you're gonna love,
yeah, you're gonna love how really sneaky
this principle is, and I'll explain it all in just a second,
but first, I wanna show you a preview
for the second of the two-for-one pack this week
at sankymagic.com, the two-for-one mentalism pack,
total $60 value, everything for just $29.95.
Here is the second, really unforgettable,
so visual, so theatrical, extremely cool prediction,
and again, involves the spectator in a very intimate way.
The spectator makes all the choices,
and yet, amazingly, everything works out.
So here is Deranged.
People are fascinated with faces,
so I knew that a mentalism effect
involving one of the world's most famous faces
would always engage people.
Eight pieces of a cut postcard
featuring Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa
are handed out to be closely examined.
A spectator selects one of the pieces,
and a folded prediction is introduced.
Another spectator is asked to hold
the remaining pieces behind their back
and give them the ultimate fair shuffle,
mixing their order and also randomly turning them over.
But when the spectator slowly deals the pieces
onto the table and the prediction is unfolded,
it perfectly matches the selected piece.
Even more impossibly, it also matches the exact arrangement
of the remaining seven pieces.
One of the things often lacking from mentalism effects
is audience involvement.
Getting them doing stuff is a great way to pull people in.
So I developed Deranged so the audience does everything.
They examine the pieces.
They select the piece.
They mix them up behind their back.
They deal them on the table.
They can even unfold the prediction.
And because Deranged is foolproof, never misses,
it instantly resets, and it's extremely portable.
It's the ideal mentalism trick
for any of my walk-around gigs.
The first time I ever saw this principle
was about 1,000 years ago.
I was late at night.
I was in a bar at a magic convention.
And this guy said, hey, let me show you a trick.
And he showed me a trick using this principle,
and I had no idea.
It just, he let me, at the end,
I thought there's no way I can examine the cards,
but you can examine the cards.
And I realized, I saw, he didn't,
there was no equivocate, there was no funny motions,
there was no difficult sleight of hand.
He let me, it was a totally free choice of mine.
It fooled me very, very badly.
But then, when he showed me the method,
I thought, oh my God.
Will this ever fool anybody?
And it fools everybody, okay?
This is the kind of thing that just fools everybody,
even though, now that you're gonna learn the secret,
remember, remember how badly it fooled you, okay?
Because never again, you're gonna look at this
and go, does this actually work?
And it freaks out everybody, all right?
So here's what you need.
You need two packets of cards, okay?
And they're the same as eight cards, okay?
This is one of my spectacle deck,
spectacle, eight cards from a spectacle deck.
But anyway, contrasting, you want one,
you wanna make sure that those eight cards
look very different from these eight cards.
I think it just works visually.
But they're in the same order.
Can be any order, as long as the eight cards
are in identical order, okay?
One goes on top of the other.
Put a rubber band around this, and like I said,
this is super portable.
And you know, because it's slow,
you can really build up the impossibility.
It's not a great opening effect.
It's too slow for that.
But once you've got their attention,
it's a killer closer,
because it totally puts it all on the spectator.
You're not the star, they are,
and it's just incredible that way.
And you can really, because going into it,
you know it's a guaranteed freak fest.
It's gonna work, and there's no slights,
nothing you have to think about.
You can just focus 100% on the presentation.
Bring it to life, right?
Okay, so you're here.
You start, and the key line,
is life is about making choices.
I'm gonna have you make eight choices.
Eight choices, all right?
And together, you and I, we're gonna rearrange the cards.
Okay, that's the key line, okay?
Eight choices, together we're gonna rearrange the cards.
So, divide the packets into two, like this.
They can choose either one,
it doesn't matter, you're here like this.
Now, you're gonna demo.
You start by demonstrating what you're gonna do.
And I didn't do that for a while,
but the more I've been doing it now,
it really does clarify things.
You say, here's what you're gonna,
I'm gonna give you a choice every single time.
The top card, you're gonna give me a choice
of whether I'm gonna deal it,
or switch it with the other card.
It's all about deal or switch, key line, okay?
Now, so you demonstrate them.
They can deal the cards,
or they can have you deal, deal, deal,
and then switch, right?
Or it could be a switch, and deal, whatever they want.
Now, here's the thing.
Whether they say deal or switch,
you are not rearranging the cards in any way.
You are not rearranging the cards.
Look, I'll do it face up.
If I were to deal, it'd be five of clubs,
then a nine of hearts going down, right?
But when they say switch, all I do is take this one,
put this one on top.
So, it's a ruse.
The whole thing is a verbal visual line.
Because whether they say deal,
or they say switch them, okay?
Six, then king, or six under, then king.
They're always going down the same order.
You're not changing the order,
whether they say deal or switch.
In this case, all I did was reverse the order,
because I was counting them down on the table.
And by doing the demo, what you want to do, okay,
is you start with them identical order.
By doing the demo, whether you want me to switch,
or deal, or switch, or deal.
I know, it's so deceptive.
Now, what I have them is, okay, in reverse order.
And that's what I want, because what I did is,
in the demo, you reverse the order.
And now, during the performance,
is when they get back to the same order to match that.
So, the key, deal or switch.
This first card, do you want me to switch it
for that card, or deal?
They say deal, great.
This next card, do you want me to switch it for that one,
or do you want me to deal?
And let's say they say switch you.
So, you switch it, put it down.
This next card, deal or switch, and they go deal.
And then this one, they say deal,
and they think, okay, now, they're messing with you.
And then these, deal, you want me to,
wow, that's very rare there.
And the last two cards, deal or switch, they say switch.
It is that simple.
And you say, even though you helped me rearrange the cards,
and you made eight dramatic choices,
then you turn, showing this super beautiful ending, okay?
And now, I'm gonna share with you guys, in just a second,
the, it's funny, the really cool alternative handling
that I think makes this even more impossible.
Two ideas, actually.
One idea is what you can do before,
you know, put them out there like this,
and to kind of give a real random feeling to it,
shuffle this packet, okay?
You shuffle it, you can shuffle it twice,
and all I'm doing is running off the single card.
So, I reverse the order, then put the order back.
So, just a quick shuffle if you want, okay?
So, that's one thing that I think really,
if you do a quick shuffle of that,
or even quickly do a quick shuffle of both,
I think it even makes it more impossible.
Here's the other thing I really like.
Instead of saying eight choices,
you can start by saying you're gonna make 16 choices, right?
And like we said, we're gonna divide the two
into the two packets, right?
And here, you explain to them, switch or deal,
switch or deal, they do it with this packet,
okay, deal, deal, deal, and they wanna switch that one,
and it leaves the last one to deal, right?
They've rearranged that one,
then have them rearrange this one as well.
So, you've really doubled now,
this top card, deal or switch, deal.
This one, deal, okay, this one, switch, okay,
deal, deal, deal, and switch.
So, now they've gone through both packets, okay?
But you're still gonna be able to go,
boom, boom, boom, and impossibly show them
that even though they went through both packets,
impossibly the spectator had them perfectly lined up.
