AI GeneratedChris and Nick from SaratogaWine.com introduce two Burgundy Pinot Noirs from producer Jean-Marc Milot. They highlight the estate's growth since the 1990s and the positive influence of the owner's daughter since 2014. The duo recommends these 2023 vintage wines as excellent, high-value entry points into French Burgundy for those accustomed to New World Pinot Noirs.
Hi, Chris and Nick here again at SaratogaWine.com with a couple beautiful wines from Burgundy,
one of our favorite places for wine in the world. What do you got? Jean-Marc Milot,
so kind of a newer producer to us. Yeah, I've never heard of him myself. The estate goes back
to 1992-ish, you know, early 90s. Kind of still under the radar today, but definitely under the
radar then. Jean-Marc's daughter actually comes into the fold in 2014 and really the estate
has just never been better. She's really kind of taking control of things. And, you know,
we were happily introduced to these wines today. Right. And we're introducing them to you because
we thought they were excellent. They're great. So we have a Bourgogne Pinot Noir, so kind of,
you know, more of like an Appalachian bottling. And then we have the Cote d'Ivoire Village. Right,
right. Classic, classic Burgundy to me. You know, we talk about this often. It's hard to get good
value Burgundy, but I think this delivers on Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir from Burgundy at a
real fair price. Yeah, very much so. You know, it kind of ticks all the boxes for Pinot Noir in
general, obviously. And then, you know, it really, you certainly get the Burgundy notes, kind of that
earthiness. Forest floor. Forest floor, you know, but that nice kiss of fruit in there as well.
You know, we opened these probably an hour ago, really just to give them a fair shake,
and they've really kind of blossomed on the bottle and in the glass.
And it's really fruit forward, but still clearly Burgundy.
Yeah, you know, and unmistakably Pinot Noir, right.
But it looks the way it should. Yeah, absolutely. You know, there's nothing out of place with this,
you know, Bourgogne Pinot Noir bottling. It's a great wine, I think.
I do too. And it's definitely kind of your first
stepping stone into Pinot Noir from Burgundy, right? You've had your Pinot Noirs from California
and Oregon. You're really starting to kind of explore France, and I think this is a great
entry point. Yeah, definitely. At a fair price.
Yeah, it's beautiful. I mean, and it's certainly an everyday wine, I think.
Yeah, oh, definitely. Yeah, we will, of course, go with a multitude of foods, but
I would drink this on a Tuesday night by itself. Yep, and Wednesday, and Thursday.
And now we're going to check out the second wine that we tried today, which is just as delicious,
maybe a step above. Yeah, Couture Nuit Volage here, so they're
really dialing in. You know, it definitely, when we tasted earlier, it definitely tastes a step up.
Right. And certainly not, you know,
not taking anything away from Bourgogne Pinot Noir, but this is definitely the next evolution
in their portfolio, and it's absolutely fantastic. It was actually my favorite in the wine.
Yeah, for me as well. Again, super expressive, just everything that this had,
maybe dialed up a notch or two, a little more fruit, a little more earthiness,
lots of little more structure. It's just, you know, great, awesome.
There's, what I really love about this wine is there's lots of little nuances that kind
of hook your heads up. You get that cherry fruit that comes through, that earthiness.
I'm getting a little bit of kind of like an umami mushroom character coming through.
There's that awesome rose petal that we always love in Bourgogne Pinot Noir.
I did a little incense thing off of this. Yeah, yeah.
Again, we opened it about an hour ago, getting very expressive.
Yeah, a touch of menthol coming through. I mean, it's really complex.
This is like a down-home Pinot Noir. You know it's Pinot Noir. It's got all the right markers.
This really kind of dials in on that next level. So great, you know, a couple of wines here.
They have a whole lineup that our local distributor has available. We really
suggest checking out the wines from Jean-Marc Milot. This particular vintage is the 2023,
which is actually a really, you know, great vintage. They had some struggles,
obviously, with weather as everybody does nowadays, but it was really kind of a winemaker's vintage.
They had to make, you know, stringent cuts with what grapes are going to go in and which grapes
are going to not go in. Forces them to kind of flex their winemaker muscles a little bit, right?
But, you know, an awesome set of wines here. Certainly check out the 23s. I think they have
a smattering of 22s left as well, which is a tremendous vintage at Burgundy. Jean-Marc Milot.
We have the Bourgogne Pinot Noir here and the Côte d'Ivoire Village.
Absolutely worth checking out. Definitely. Cheers. Cheers. Enjoy.
