After experiencing a frightening incident where a stranger used Google Maps to track her home address from a video, the speaker sought ways to secure her family. After installing alarms and cameras, she decided to get a professional protection dog named Darcy to ensure the safety of herself and her children, ultimately finding peace of mind and a loyal family companion.
Obviously my husband is very much in the public eye.
Videos come online, some people started to recognise our house.
I actually got sent a letter and the letter basically said
I've worked out from one of your videos, I've gone on Google Maps,
tracked the location behind you and I've worked out where you live.
That was like a big wake-up call, like this is actually
real life, people have tracked me down through a video.
You don't know people's intentions.
I think I was on Amazon literally the same night with cameras,
alarms on every single window and I was adding something more than this
because I still don't feel safe.
If they was to come into the house and I have nothing there,
there's nothing stopping them just walking forwards and grabbing me.
I don't want someone to be able to get close to me and my child.
So that's when we looked into getting a protection dog
and I was just naturally looking on Instagram really,
like protection companies.
Ethan, he was like, oh no, this company looks sick.
I think naturally from seeing the videos of a dog in protection training,
naturally you think, oh I've got young kids in the house, how's that going to go?
Olive, when we first got Darcy, probably about 22 months old,
so obviously toddler, baby, very interested in picking things up.
Not so gentle with her hands, so if she's going to touch a dog it's
you know how kids are, they're very heavy handed with it
and honestly she's been absolutely perfect.
She's not once been reactive, like if she takes something off the dog,
no reaction, there's no snapping.
They're so friendly and I feel like that's what I didn't expect.
I thought, oh I need to be a little bit aware of you,
but you don't, like because she is so family friendly and that's what was nice.
She got along with my other dogs, there was no reactiveness.
She's very much a dog that I feel like you can just live your life with,
like you don't have to think, oh I can't take her there or I have to be careful here,
it's just she just moulds in so well with you.
You really get the service behind it as well,
texting like Lidl or texting Harvey, that always answer the phone.
It's not a case of, oh we've sold you the dog now,
that's it we're not going to speak again because you know we've got our money,
that's it, see you later.
Someone is always there to pick up the phone
and anything that you're having trouble with they always answer.
She's literally part of the family, she's settled in so well with everything,
we've built such a good bond.
When Ethan isn't here I can literally just relax because that dog, she stays by my side.
Ultimately it's made me feel so safe and I don't actually feel like you can put a price
on how reassured she's made me feel.
