We definitely don’t have it all figured out, but it’s fun hanging with this crew every step of the way!

AI GeneratedA family transitions from a month of lakefront camping to a series of \"boondocking\" adventures using their solar-equipped RV. They visit an alpaca farm and the historic Gold Hill Hotel in Virginia City to celebrate their 11th wedding anniversary before heading to a traditional campground for a week of rest.
It's travel day!
So we're all moved in to Guinevere. It's been really comfy so far.
We've been lakefront now for an entire month. We've had
full hookups, a perfect view every morning.
We've been staying at the Topaz Lake RV Park
which is kind of a little hidden gem. Very
inexpensive and literally we've been staying about 20 feet from the lake this
entire time. We've been swimming every day. The kids
have been hanging out on their little tubes. We have a
little inflatable kayak that we got to break out again.
It's been super nice but it's time to hit the road again.
We are going to be boondocking today. Something we never got to do before.
We've tried. We did try. We have tried but
our old fifth wheel was not set up for such a thing.
We didn't have solar. We did not have a generator.
If we wanted to boondock it was pretty much, you know,
lights out. You're parking in the dirt and you just have to kind of survive.
It doesn't really count as boondocking. One of the reasons we bought this RV is
that it does have a solar setup and it does have a generator so it's
designed for this sort of thing. We recently signed up for Harvest Hosts
and we are going to be staying at a alpaca farm today.
Which I don't even know what that means. Why are you farming alpacas?
What kind of industry is that? We're about to find out. We're about to find
out. So this weekend we are Harvest Host
hopping and boondocking two nights in a row with
lights on and everything. Lights on and everything. Maybe watch a
movie tonight. I don't know. If we get lucky.
I'm hoping everything is going to work but that's our plan. We got to start
getting packed up because it's already a mess in here from
settling in.
It's nice to be able to come up here clean up stuff. I can check on
the solar panels. Parked under these trees. There's a bunch of branches up
here. And all the little gutters and the top
of the awning is real nasty.
You guys ready?
So far every time we drive this thing there's some kind of
high-pitched noise going off. Right now it's my jacks
alarm. It's telling me that the jacks are down. Stop. Stop. I know that they're not
down but I think one of them might have some like gunk or something to where
it's not sitting all the way up. I can't really fix that right now but
now we've got this annoying beeping until we get there.
Driving through Gardnerville right now. It's a cute little town.
It's only 25 miles an hour through here so it's kind of nice to just cruise.
What happened here? Turn right. Oh my god. We hit a tree.
In a quarter mile the destination is on your right.
Well it's definitely an alpaca farm. I thought maybe we'd be staying in the
place and there would be like a small area of
alpacas but they're just walking around. This is the only like farm experience
I ever would want. With this type of animal
everyone's just kind of free roaming but like they're leaving me alone.
I see them right there. They're in the park. Let's go see.
Look there's one right in front of us. I see them right there.
Hi bud. How can he see you? That's like a modern 14 year old boy
What's up? My name's Tyler. Hi Tyler. He's looking for some shade huh?
Bow to him. Should I? I don't know. What's up bud?
Oh my. Oh my god.
Did he try to spit at you? I don't know. Oh my god.
I really don't know if alpacas are nice or not but if they're just letting us
right in their backyard. I mean but so far so good.
We're running off solar now. My batteries seem to be okay
so we're just gonna plug along for the rest of the day.
Yeah this is this is crazy so far. And in the morning
I'm making waffles. Nice. Good morning everyone. Did you guys
sleep good? All right. Well we survived the night
boondocking. More importantly we survived the night
living with alpacas. They were literally outside
right outside the rv last night. So it was a cool experience.
Everything seems to be working fine. We have 800 watts of solar and we have a
3000 watt inverter in here. Two 300 amp hour lithium batteries.
This is all a learning experience for me.
We're getting all packed up with everywhere to go.
Would you look at the time. It's time to go.
Well it's been nice hanging out with the alpacas but now
we're headed to the oldest hotel in Nevada. I love hotels. Some say it's
haunted. That's right. Might have to do some
ghost hunting while we're there. Going on an adventure. This little bud
named Kissy is a lion and he's going to his lion
mommy and daddy. Let's see how he does it. You don't think it's cool that we're
married? No. You don't think it's cool that we've
been married for 11 years? No. No? No. Well you should be.
Even though this is an alpaca farm this guy is kind of my favorite.
Just a sad old boy but he's so cute. Ready? Yeah.
The road is kind of narrow and uphill and then we saw a sign just back
behind us basically said RVs and buses and trucks are prohibited.
I'm scoping this place out and it's a little bit sketch. I'm a little nervous
to bring Chris down here but sometimes you
do what you gotta do. You know what I mean?
We still made it in our spot nonetheless. Okay.
We did it. We did it. We're capable. So we made it here
to Virginia City at the Gold Hill Hotel which is Nevada's oldest hotel.
Its construction happened four months after
the Nevada state territory was created. It dates back to their speculation that
it was 1859. We have old remnants of a mine that
used to be here. This structure has been a hotel. It has
been a brothel even. It has been so many different things
since the state of Nevada was created. But later on tonight we also have a
reservation at the Crown Restaurant. I couldn't imagine a better way, a more
unique, exciting, adventurous experience to have to
celebrate 11 years married together with our two kids.
It's gonna be really awesome. So a generator is
in the front of the coach. I feel like this is a loud generator.
I mean I'm standing like six feet away from it right now and
it's really not. It's really not that bad. I think it might be the original one so
from 1998. It's only got about 430 hours on it right now.
Everything's working great and it's hot. It's very very hot.
I have an air conditioner running, TV, internet, all that.
Forrest, hey. What are you doing? What are you doing?
Where are you going? We're boondocking. The batteries say 100% right now. We have to
get ready because we're going up to the hotel
for dinner. Noelle's already up there with our friend Stephanie
who lives close by so she stopped by to hang out and hopefully have
a nice anniversary dinner because I love that woman.
She deserves a good dinner tonight. I hope so.
What do you think is going to be on the menu of the oldest hotel
in Nevada? I mean probably burgers.
I know you guys.
Wow.
Check in and get a table. We're taking you out
for our wedding anniversary. Yeah. Are you so excited to be here?
Yeah. Your parents are in love. Yeah. Isn't that crazy?
It's sour.
These are huge. These are chicken feet.
Yeah. Chicken feet.
It's amazing.
Whoa. Roosevelt promises a fight. Wow. This is the oldest hotel
all of Nevada and we're standing in it right now.
Cade felt like ghost presence in the bathroom.
Real? Spooky? Good chicken fingers though. Great chicken fingers though.
Look at this though. Ghost toys.
Going into people's rooms and naps in comfortable chairs.
I hate Mondays. People who ignore me and exercise. Who knew I would
grow to be a gardener.
Now that's a story.
Are you ready for this?
What? I'm dying over here.
Are you choking to death?
It's the spirits man.
Shut up.
That was a great dinner. Definitely worth going to if you're going to utilize this
place as a harvest host. It was hot today but as soon as that sun
went down it got like 20 degrees cooler so it's actually really nice right now.
I think we'll sleep good tonight. But the hotel and the restaurant are super cool.
Really clean and almost fancy. I almost felt a little underdressed.
11 years. I've been married for 11 years. We've been doing this for almost half of
that time. It's crazy. It's important to find a good partner
that you can do stupid things with. You know?
I don't think we were visited by any spirits or
entities but hey we survived two full nights
of straight boondocking. There's gold in them hills.
These are our two propane tanks. It's nice because we have one for just our
utilities. So hot water, stove, furnace. There's a
whole separate one just for the generator. And we got them
filled up yesterday. I think we ran this thing for seven hours
I think plus. So that's a good sign. So we don't really have to worry about
running the generator and running out of all of our other utility
things. So having two tanks is pretty cool I think.
The sun is hot coming up so I think we're gonna try to leave
soonish. It's time to hit the road. I'm sure Chris has already told you but one
of our jacks is not completely coming up
which is triggering a alarm. So now Chris is trying to do
a manual override. Okay on light and then
rear jacks. Did it jog? Well and it hasn't been making any noise
since I've been in here. Why? Because it's not in drive. As soon as I
put it apart and take it back off it's gonna start beeping at me.
Gotcha. See that noise that goes off the entire time.
Full-time traveling with family. This is uh
very normal, very usual, very practical, very daily.
All right so we are on the road. We're headed to an
actual campground for one week. So we get to kind of chill out and rest a
little bit. I'm leading the pack today. Chris is
behind me. We've got gorgeous views ahead of us
and only a little over an hour drive because we're all gassed up and got
everywhere to go. Let's get it.
