Haleakala Volcano Maui / Ride & Review

How about that view? That is something. We are here on Maui headed up to the volcano which I believe is the highest point on the island of Maui at just about 10,000 feet. I think we are almost halfway there now. What's it say? Yeah we are at 4,293 feet right now. Let me show you what this road is looking like. This is what we're taking here. This is what this road looks like coming up here. It is just completely switchbacks and curves and just absolutely beautiful. We want a couple of 2018 Harley Davidson street glides with some tour packs added to them. Came to us courtesy of Maui Harley Davidson. You want to fly into the island when you land they are less than two miles from the airport and go there you can pick up a bike and get out and hit these roads. They've got all different kinds of bikes up there to rent. Joining us on today's video is of course my main man Rusty. Tapping Rusty. Everything's happening. Ready to ride. It's been great so far. Yeah amazing right? The road we are on here today is 377 and we're going to take it up the rest of the mountain and I think we should just take them along with us. What do you say? Absolutely. Let's put on some miles. You see way down there the ocean on both sides of the island here where we are at 4,700 feet. Working ain't done, working ain't done, it'll set us on, oh look out boys you're about to learn there comes a time when the catch burns, life ain't never gonna spare the ride, no well I can't keep a livin' livin' this hard, they don't forget who you are. It's gonna be 20 for each motorcycle. I have a national parks pass, does that work? Yeah and then I just need to see a photo ID. There's a photo ID. Okay. This is the national parks pass. This will get you into all the national parks. It is an absolute must for traveling the nation. And then always have it out and ready with a photo ID. There you go. We are riding above the clouds in a big way. It is spectacular. Look at that. This camera just cannot do it justice. But look at that road winding in and out of there and just straight over the clouds. And what are we at right now? How many feet? 8,500. Absolutely beautiful. I don't know if they can make it on the camera but you can see like over the clouds and then into the ocean. I don't know if y'all can see that. This is unreal. We have got a beautiful country all over the place. Just gorgeous. Thanks to brave men and women like my boy Rusty here. So I believe this volcano last erupted like over 500 years ago and now it just lays dormant and well it's a national park. I've never felt lava. It's a unique texture. It's almost hollow. Y'all want to walk up to the observatory? Let's do it. Let's go. This is a cool looking plant. It's an extremely cool looking plant. This is the only place in the world that this plant grows. Dude the Air Force is doing some dope stuff over there. Look at that. Rusty you got clearance over there. Come on. Tell the truth. I can go right now. Let's go. The Maui Space for Surveillance Complex. Look at those mountains over there. So I think that island has mountains like 2,000 feet taller than this island. So this is what I was talking about. It's actually called the Silver Sword is what that plant is. It's found nowhere else. Just the islands of Hawaii. It's a beautiful plant. It really is. This is the hiking trail that I'm gonna walk and then y'all are gonna ride down and pick me up and bring me back to my bike. In a few days. That's the road we just rode. Gorgeous. Okay y'all we are back at the hotel and I have indeed decided to rate this road because it ended up being so much more beautiful than I expected. Road conditions attend. Absolutely perfect roads. They kept the debris off. It was smooth sailing the entire way. No potholes. No cracks. Brand new pavement as far as I'm concerned. The curves. Nine beautiful curves all the way through. All the way up. All the way down. You're going across one mountain. The only reason it didn't give it a 10 is there wasn't quite as much variety of curves as I'd like to see. But the curves were stellar. Scenic views. An 8. I think the views were great. Of course there were a lot of the same view throughout the thing. You had the high desert lava. You had the clouds. And then you had the woods. But when you got on top you could see the ocean and everything else. So it was really nice. Attractions. I'm giving it a 3. There's really nothing on this road at all. Even the visitor centers for the national park are understocked if you will. Traffic. We're gonna give it a 7. The traffic was great. It was good. There wasn't a lot of pull-offs or places to pass which made it a little difficult at times. But nonetheless we're gonna give the traffic a 7. And the distance a 5 is less than 30 miles. The entire trip with the way it was set up took us about one hour up one hour back. It's a little bit shorter than I like to have on a good ride. So for me personally it's a 5. Of course remember all these ratings are just on my personal preferences. Yours may differ. That's why I try to explain to you the reasons I rated them each of those things.
