AI GeneratedThis weekly motorcycle news roundup highlights high-performance releases from KTM, pricing shifts at MV Agusta, and luxury electric mobility from Brabus. It also covers market-specific engine adjustments, new safety technology like Chiggy's rear radar, tire updates from Metzeler, and a critical safety recall affecting thousands of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Welcome back everybody to another episode of our weekly moto news roundup where this time around
we'll look at an update for KTM's most extreme bike, a price drop from MV Agusta, new options
for the Ducati Multistrada and a new electric from Brabus. Then there's an update for the KTM 390s
in India, good news from CFMoto in the US, a peek at one of their most hyped developments and a well
thought-out update from Royal Enfield. Then Aprilia's most expensive bike ever sells out in
absolutely no time. We've got news on some interesting new gear and accessories and I'll
round off with a huge recall from Harley Davidson which I think is one of the biggest in terms of
the number of bikes affected that I can remember reporting in recent memory. Before we get underway
though a massive thanks to Breakfree for supporting our news content. If you're at all curious about
this particular product which you might have seen in some of our videos then check out the link down
in the description below. But let's kick off with that news from KTM with the updated version of
their top of the line Super Duke RR which was announced a couple of weeks back admittedly but
I was on holiday so I missed it. But all the same the basic idea is that they took the already bonkers
1390 Super Duke R, gave it a fresh lick of paint and a crop of its exhaust, MotoGP derived suspension,
Brembo's top spec high pure calipers and also a whole bunch of weight savings. So carbon bodywork,
forged wheels, a lithium-ion battery all combined for 11 kilograms of weight savings and that brings
the total for this particular RR model in at 189 kilograms wet no fuel so I reckon roughly 200
kilograms fully fueled up. Certainly not bad considering you've also got almost 190 horsepower
to play with. Although at £24,999 it is a fair old step up from what's already a fairly expensive
bike the Super Duke R at £17,799. Still this week they followed up with another one something even
more extreme and the price is even more extreme as well at £32,999. This is the RR Track so I
think you can probably imagine that this is track only and so it does away with all of the pesky
homologation stuff so no headlight, no mirrors, no number plate as well and you're left with a very
lean and mean looking machine especially with that bare carbon finish. Also without all the emission
stuff on the exhaust well it's made way for another Akrapovic system but this time something
a lot more compact and minimal let's say and I would imagine as well a lot more noisy. So yeah
another nine kilograms saved on this track version by getting rid of all that stuff that's 20
kilograms then less than the standard Super Duke and I must say I do like the look of this one a
lot. Stripping off all that stuff the flat front end the belly pan as well which you don't get on
the other two for me that's some proper bike porn right there. Speaking of bike porn though well one
of the main purveyors has to be MV Agusta although unfortunately you typically associate them with
you know unobtainable pricing to go with it but that could be set to change moving forward
certainly from 2026 with their new F3R for example. Well I say new it's pretty much the same as it was
before they've just repositioned it with a new price they say in order to reflect the changes in
the middleweight supersport market. So yeah same spec same engine which is brilliant same beautiful
finish but instead of around 17,000 pounds which I think it was last time out in 2024
it now comes in at 16,000 euro which converts to about 14,000 pounds although the exact UK price
is still TBC. Still that'd be a heck of a nice bike to own and it might well be more of a possibility
now for more bikers. Now a few episodes back we covered a new service from Ducati called Factory
Made it's not quite the full custom treatment but basically it gives you more options on the finish
in terms of the paint and there's some Lamborghini colors as well you can choose the color of some of
the components as well and it just gives you something that might make a combination that
feels a little more bespoke to you. Now they started off with the Multistrada V4 the base
version but the intention has been to roll it out to more and more models and so this week they've
just announced that it's now available on the Multistrada V4 Rally so this is the big tank
version the 30 litre tank the sort of long distance adventure touring bike. So yeah you can play
around in the configurator and see all of the possible combinations and of course naturally
before I shot this video I had a little play. I will say some of the combos aren't quite hitting
the mark for me I think I tried some of these Lamborghini colors before the purple the orange
not sure they quite suit a Ducati but I will say in khaki green with the red subframe the gold
wheels that Multistrada V4 Rally is one good looking adventure bike. Now we're used to German
car tuning brand Brabus dabbling in motorcycles with their interpretations over the past few years
of the KTM Super Duke platform but this week it turns out that they're also trying their hand
in the electric space as well. This time they've collaborated with the French brand Dab
Motors and they've come up with this rather unusual looking thing which is called the Dab 1A
Brabus. Now let's be clear about this one it's almost entirely a city bike it's only a seven
kilowatt hour battery the motor tops out at 31 horsepower peak the top speed is 75 miles per
hour and the range is 93 miles as long as you stick to the city. I'm sure you'll get a lot
less than that if you were on the motorway for example. So I think at almost 17,000 euros for
this base model it is a bit of a big ask and there's also an uprated Urban E version with
better components a fancier finish a little bit better performance as well but that one's 21,000
euro. Now if that still isn't enough they've got these color drenched versions that are the first
editions there's four of them they'll be making 10 instances of each color and these ones coming
at 32,500. Now especially considering the price but also considering the looks I think personally
I'd just go with one of the black ones but what about you guys let me know down in the comments.
Now recently I've mentioned the new tax rates in India meaning that bikes below 350 cc are taxed
it's a relatively recent change and it's been expected that it will have a knock-on effect on
the bikes that are on sale in India in terms of their displacement. We've already seen Triumph
revise their 400 singles in the last episode of this news show they've dropped them down to 350s
taking a little bit of a performance hit in order to be able to offer their bikes at a more accessible
price point and it turns out KTM are next with a new 350 version of their 390 Adventure and 390 Duke.
Now to be clear Indian manufacturer Bajaj makes both the Triumph 400 and the KTM 390 so they're
probably getting fairly experienced now making these bikes a little bit smaller but yeah you've
got a similar pattern to the Triumph so instead of 40 odd horsepower and 39 newton meters of peak
torque on the 390s they're down to 41 horsepower so a couple of horsepower drop I think but it's
the torque where it takes a hit these are now down to 33.5 newton meters still probably a trade-off
some Indian motorcycle consumers are willing to make to save what is it 22 percent there on tax.
Now one of the bikes I'm most looking forward to riding this year one that we saw at EICMA in
November is the new CFMoto 1000 MTX Adventure bike which promises to be an absolute blast with
a big parallel twin that's derived from KTM's brilliant 990 and also what appears to be a proper
off-road ready chassis. The UK price was recently announced at 8,898 quid which I don't think you
can complain at you know at all I don't think there's anything really in that 900 Adventure
class that comes even close to it in terms of value for money but there's also good news for
anyone looking for a budget-friendly adventurer in the US because CFMoto just confirmed this week
that the 1000 MTX will also be on sale at some point in the states and to be fair quite a few
key models from the major manufacturers aren't always on sale in the US so definitely good to
see that this one will be although it will bear a different name like the 450 MT with this one being
called the Ibex 950 so that's the US Adventure bike family name Ibex 450 I think there's an 800
and now a 950. No exact US pricing as of yet though they've just said that it will be available at
some point this year but RideApart reported on this and they estimate around 12,000 US dollars
which I think is probably about right and like I say still undercuts most of the competition in
that class now one of CFMoto's most exciting developments recently I think has to be their
V4 sports bike prototype that was also shown at EICMA and it looks like the story won't stop there
with more footage showing it on the move at a recent event now this one was caught by Visordown
with this clip from Instagram that shows it being demoed and revved in front of a crowd in China
as part of their CFMoto day at Chengdu Tianfu circuit
to me it sounds pretty phenomenal as V4s tend to but also it should go well with CFMoto claiming
it will make well over 200 horsepower that's led a lot of people to speculate that this could
signal their intent to get involved pretty seriously in some racing such as World Superbike
where this bike would be presumably permitted and also possibly the Isle of Man TT so I guess
potentially watch this space now when I reviewed the Royal Enfield Gorilla 450 a year or two back
I've got to say I really enjoyed it I think it's a very good bike but it's one of those motorcycles
that's fallen foul a little bit of like a fashion for knobbly tires same with the
Pasvana Svartpilen 801 great bikes predominantly road focused but just fitted with some flat
tracker inspired tires to give them a bit more of a rugged look it does look cool but I think
in reality on the road a proper road tire would give you a better ride and so I think this week's
announcement from Royal Enfield is a great move with this new Gorilla 450 Apex now with this
edition you do get some new sportier looking paint jobs there's a seat cowl as well but I think it's
those road tires which will have a seriously positive impact on the way this bike rides
and also it should go nicely with the new handlebar position the standard bike they're fairly upright
and you know have you sat up in that flat track or scrambly style but these new ones sit a little
lower I think and further forward to get you more over the front and so yeah it should be a really
good fun bike to ride this on top of that they've tweaked the riding modes they say they've refined
them a little bit it's got two modes and also enabled the bike to retain which mode you were
in when you power off which is a bit of a nuisance when the bike forgets and then you have to switch
mode again every time you switch it on so yeah a nice little fix there pricing on this one £5050
with it coming in two different colour options and you pay the same amount of money for each
now I'm sure you'll remember recently if you watch regularly this stars and stripes finish on the
Aprilia X250 this special edition bike built to celebrate 250 years since the signing of the US
Declaration of Independence and costing a not insignificant $150,000 I think if my research
is correct the most expensive bike that they've ever made that's been publicly available and it
had me wondering at the time like who would pay that sort of money for an Italian bike with a very
unashamedly American paint job but it turns out plenty of people apparently with all 30 bikes
sold out in according to Aprilia just 14 days now 30 bikes at $150,000 each is a cool 4.5 million
dollars in revenue generated in just a couple of weeks which is not bad work from Aprilia
time now though for comment of the week and if you're not familiar I'll choose a comment each
week and then at the end of the month we'll choose my pick of the month and send out to the winner
a break free unit of their choice and last week it was actually the revised updated version of
the BMW c1 the scooter with a roof they've been well they've done the prototype they've also
filed this patent for some wheels that fold down in order to balance it at a standstill and yeah
it definitely stirred up a few comments with Wayne Foster saying it reminded him of the Flintstones
which I would I can see that but this week I'll give the comment of the week to Crave Stephen
McDonald who said an eight-wheel bike the perfect bike for riding home from the pub now of course we
don't condone drinking and riding but I'm sure Craig's kidding so thank you very much for that
one on to some gear and accessory news now though and we've got some good stuff here Kalimoto our
navigation partners whose app has its own motorcycle specific algorithm to find the
best twisty routes they've just launched support for android auto so either if you use an android
auto enabled screen like a chiggy or something like that or if your bike's got it built in like
some of the hondas harleys and indians where you can now get kalimoto navigation nice and big on
your screen without having to mount your phone on the bars so definitely check that out if you're a
kalimoto user and you've got a an android auto device or if your car's got it I guess and you
want to carve up some twisty roads in your car you could also do that as well speaking of chiggy
though and they've also just announced a new rear-facing radar system which can be fitted
I presume to any bike but also it's got a really important feature which I'm really looking forward
to testing out or kind of you see the rear-facing radar as with other systems is for blind spot
warnings so it'll give you blind spot warnings with some lights in the cockpit it can also give
you active overtake warnings so if someone's coming past it's also going to give you a flash
but it's the way that they do rear collision warnings which I really think is the well on
paper anyway the best thing about it you see if you get that on a bike that has it built in some
of the other systems as well that do this sort of thing it will sometimes flash at you if it
detects someone approaching quickly from behind and I always think that puts the onus on the rider
which feels a little bit counterintuitive if someone's about to you know run into the back
of you there's very little you can do about that as the rider so what I like about this is there's
little led on the radar housing that flashes to warn the driver who hopefully can see it and
braking time in order to not run into you we're expecting one of these for review soon so do keep
your eyes peeled for a full video about that but in the meantime you can check out their website
where they've got all the info and moving on this week Metzeler also announced two new sets of tires
now both get some interesting features a unified tread pattern for both front and rear so you get
consistent behavior under braking and acceleration it's got that adaptive tread as well which kind
of morphs under force so it helps to increase the tire's footprint under braking by closing up the
treads and in my experience you know Metzeler's are generally really quite decent tires so
definitely these should be ones to consider if you're looking for a quick road tire the Sportec
01 is more road focused and a little bit of wet weather the RS a little more track focused a
little more bias towards dry riding as well and also it gets a little bit of racing insight
integrated into it with for example the compound on the shoulders they say develop with their
learnings from road racing specifically calling out their close association with the Isle of Man TT
the last one on the gear front though is this new website from our partners at Lightlock which
i think is a brilliant idea one of the difficult things i think about buying motorcycle security
is that if you're going to try and lock your front wheel or your back wheel there's
a lot of variables in terms of the fork the brake discs and the different design and holes
in the brake disc the way that the calipers mount the spokes the rim size the tire size as well
so while you could try and measure it with a tape or something like that sometimes it's easier just
to get the product in your hand and try and wiggle it in and see if it'll fit that's the
thinking behind this new fitment gallery a website they've created in order for customers to be able
to upload their own pictures of their light lock products fitted to their specific bike
now you can filter it as well by make and model and so i see a few use cases here obviously the
first one is if you were thinking about buying a light lock you can go on there filter by your
particular bike and see which of the light lock products will fit the best the other is if you've
already got a light lock and you want to see the most secure way to use it if you filter on your
bike you might see someone who's managed to squeeze it through a certain gap which
makes it more secure and so i'd definitely check it out for that but number three i just encourage
anybody who's got time to head over there and upload a snap of their own bike the more people
using good proper locks like the light locks and using them properly as well the better i had to
wrap up with this one today though the news that harley have had to issue a recall and it's for a
massive number of bikes apparently roughly 17 000 bikes from 2025 and 2026 are potentially affected
with a recall issued in the us that states that the rear brake hose can potentially rub on the
body control module and that can result in a break in the brake hose of course that might result
in a loss of brake fluid and that might result in a loss of brakes that is a heck of a lot of bikes
to fix though and also with harley being a well-known brand name and also with that many
bikes affected well it's been enough for this one this story to break into the mainstream press
outside of the motorcycle press which i think is fair to say is pretty rare for a technical
motorcycle recall anyway as always i'd love to know what you think of this week's story so do
let me know down in the comments below and i'll stick a playlist on the screen here of our videos
from last week in case you missed any which includes our full guide to car play for motorcycles
a little bit of our tiger build it's the first episode so if you like your mods do have a look
at that and also a couple of lists where we look at some of the best scramblers and also middleweight
do hit subscribe for more of the latest motorcycle news and reviews right here on motobob
a massive thanks for watching today and we'll see you in the next video
