The future of flight is electric, at least for one company in Vermont that's
working to perfect a battery powered plane. Yeah, the beta aircraft is in the
result or is the result of two decades of work in one man's revolutionary
vision. Today he got a chance to show it off on Good Morning America. I was
telling people for 20 years that this could change the way we fly. It's going
to change everything.
Kyle Clark started beta aircraft in college. He's turned it into a family
business that now produces two types of planes, one that takes off on a
traditional runway, another that lifts off and lands vertically like a
helicopter. And it takes just 50 minutes to charge, costing about $13,
allowing the planes to make an hour trip at a cost of 40 times less than a
gas powered aircraft. The goal is to provide faster and cheaper medical
flights and cheaper deliveries.
And for carriers like UPS and Amazon, where they fly a lot and they want to
bring packages to everybody next day across the entire country, if they can
do that less expensive, their level of service goes up.
Santa's gonna have a trade in this morning, right? Just last week,
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy took a test flight in a beta plane. Beta
is one of several companies working to develop electric planes, hoping for FAA
certification in the coming year.
