Video Summary
AI GeneratedDrew Barrymore hosts a conversation with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, where they discuss the complexities of motherhood, the evolution of their lifelong friendship, and a nostalgic look back at their early 2000s fashion and public personas.
Excited to be with girlfriends right now.
Everyone was like, how was your weekend?
I was like, full mom mode.
What have you been momming about recently?
Well, I've been looking at preschools as well with Phoenix.
So that's what I've been doing the past couple weekends.
It's so visceral, isn't it?
You have two kids, Nicole, who are, how old are they now?
How old is Kate?
She's about to be 17.
Oh my God.
And Sparrow is 15, yes.
And Sparrow is 15.
How did that happen so fast?
Just backstage because it's morning here
and I was on the phone with them
and just trying to get them out of the house.
And they're screaming and yelling.
They're running late.
Joel's upset.
It was manic.
And I said, guys, I'm in New York.
There's nothing that I can do.
They just wanted me on the phone just to listen.
And I don't know, they just like needed me there.
So that's what I was just handling about five minutes ago.
Okay, thank you.
That's exactly it.
To go on the Drew Barrymore show, guys,
I can't get you guys in the car.
You gotta just do it.
Here I am literally coming here.
I did the drop off this morning.
I raced, I got on the elliptical for 10 minutes.
I raced here.
I actually showered.
Yes.
I love your earrings.
Do you know who made these beautiful earrings?
I did.
That's right.
They look beautiful.
I've been in your closet once.
I never stopped fantasizing about it.
If you're wondering where all the fabulous
60s dresses are, 70s thin, hippie, bohemian dresses,
Nicole's got the market on it.
Richard Simmons had the market on dolphin shorts.
Nicole's got the market.
I do need to invest in some dolphin shorts, actually.
I think that'll be my next.
And you would look cute in a pair of dolphin shorts.
I agree, thank you.
I'm thinking about when we were all young and kids.
When did you feel like an adult in your life?
I clearly am not my kids' age.
I know that when I see them.
I'm not my sister's age, she's in her early 20s.
And when I'm with her, I know that I'm not that person.
But I very much sometimes forget
that I am the actual adult.
Because I feel the same at times.
And so it's tricky.
I don't know what age I am.
Yeah, I don't know.
Did you, have you felt like a grown-up, Paris?
And what does that feel like?
Because I'm still curious.
For me, I feel grown up, definitely with the babies.
But I'm such a kid at heart
that I don't feel grown up in some ways.
But you have to because you're a parent.
But at the same time, I feel like
I'll just always have that kid at heart my entire life.
Maybe that's like the key,
is just accepting that we might be living
in an ageless world.
Like, we grew up fast, but I still feel young.
And we have to have that at our access.
And you guys have a brand new show
that harkens back to years ago,
when you were younger.
True.
Was it your mom that was like,
I don't know about the simple life?
Yes, when I got the call to do the show,
my mom immediately said, do not do this.
Like, you are crazy.
Really, why do you think she said that?
By the way, I was a kid that would get dropped off
at Paris' house and spend the weekend
with her and her mom, Kathy.
So again, it goes back to that kind of
all of our lives have been intertwined.
Why did she think it was a bad idea?
I think she was just scared.
It was like the unknown.
This was the first reality show.
She had no idea what we were gonna get ourselves into.
And I can imagine she was probably nervous.
Like, Paris is going to be somewhere
with a camera following her 24-7.
It was just such a new genre of television
that she didn't know what to expect.
But the next morning after she watched it,
she was like, oh my God, I was wrong.
That show is incredible.
You and Nicole are comedy gold.
I've never laughed so hard.
So she said, I was wrong for once.
So I was like, okay, mom, I'll give you that for once.
Oh my God, look at what babies.
The producers found all these pictures of us
and they're a bunch where I can barely tell us apart.
So will you play Y2K or Nay with me?
All right, it's Y2K or Nay.
We did not look like this.
I think we look like sophisticated ladies right now.
No, we are playing grown up very well.
We are playing like timeless business ladies.
You guys, that was the exact outfit I was rocking.
Okay, so when you see this-
The haircuts.
What is a yay?
Is there any nays?
Okay, here's what I want to tell you.
This haircut, I had two times in my life
and I've told you this, I got it because of your haircut,
your Bob haircut, but I have curly hair
and it just didn't, it did not work on me.
But you know, remember Drew's Bob?
It was shorter in the back, longer in the front.
It was everything.
It was so iconic and I was obsessed with it.
And this was my failed attempt.
I thought it was me because I was like,
and then Paris, that's exactly how I would go
to like red carpet, you know?
No, we were at an event here.
Yeah, yeah.
We thought, we were like,
oh, we're going to really turn it on.
So is this a yay or a nay?
It's a yay for vibes.
Yeah.
Definitely.
Yay for vibes.
Okay, let's-
And I love the butterfly clips.
Yeah, the butterfly clips are cute.
Oh my God.
Dresses over jeans.
Yes.
I don't even remember.
Also, I love, Nicole, that you're corresponding
the eye shadow.
The eye shadow to my top.
So you know what?
But is that a top or a pashmina?
It's a pashmina.
Yes, it is.
By the way, why were pashminas so hot?
Oh my God.
And then left the planet.
We were obsessed.
And like every-
My mom bought them for me in every color.
Yes, how did the pashmina break through the way it did?
I don't know, but clearly I was-
Where are they?
That's a great question.
There's a pashmina graveyard somewhere.
There's a closet somewhere, yes.
Is this a yay or a nay?
Dresses over jeans.
Nay.
I feel like there's a way to do this in the modern era.
Yeah, and I feel like I'm determined to figure it out
because I do think there's a seed here.
Why don't you try it and then let me know.
I'll attribute it to you guys for sure.
All right, Paris, you and I going for the chunky necklaces.
I was obsessed with the chunky-
Oh, who's this?
Oh, it's Douglas.
It's Douglas.
So cute.
Hey, everybody.
I mean, you know.
So sweet.
Okay, chunky necklaces, yay or nay?
I think they even called them like bib necklaces
back in the day.
That's a full-blown bib.
Totally.
I love a chunky necklace, so I'm gonna give you guys
both yays.
Thank you.
Yeah, I love.
I think yay.
So cute.
Yay.
Yeah, it's beautiful.
Okay, next, statement scarves.
Oh my God, look at us, Nicole.
Statement scarves, yay or nay?
Okay, not these, but I do love a statement scarf,
so I'm gonna give us a yay.
I love these looks so much.
I mean, we really have that baby face thing going on.
We were just having a good time.
That's what I say.
Honestly, when I see these photos of us,
I'm looking at our eyes and I'm like,
we were so, we were just like,
who knows what the night's gonna bring?
We were just so ready for whatever was gonna come our way.
That is exactly what I'm seeing in that picture of you
with the chunky necklace, like we had a lightness.
Yeah.
Like an unburdened.
Yeah.
Whatever.
Here we go.
Yeah, totally.
And I'm not only gonna wait to witness what happens,
I'll make it happen.
I'll make it happen, yeah.
Yes, exactly.
Valor or nay?
I love those.
That was at Sundance, right?
Yes.
By the way, look at your butt, Paris.
It's like, it's like.
Exposed.
You were, that was primed for a whale tail.
Yeah, I was into like the really low waist.
I mean, that is like right above butt crack, love.
Which is so hot, by the way.
I mean, by the way, we have a woman right here
in our audience.
Will you please stand up?
What is your name, may I ask?
Tiffany.
Yes.
How are you feeling in this head to toe velour look?
I mean, it's fun, right?
You wanna have fun and it makes me feel
like I'm back in high school and.
So cute.
Was high school a good time for you?
I mean, it was a great time, yeah.
I think you look fantastic.
I do too.
Me too.
And happy.
Inspired by you.
I don't know if you're ready for this,
but I used to sit around with the aerosol can of glitter.
Yes.
And just.
And glitter your whole body.
Hose myself down.
Like squirt it.
Walk through it.
Oh my God, I lived for that.
I should bring that back.
I think we should.
I love it.
This is a yay for me.
It's so good.
Cause like, you need to bring a little sparkle
wherever you go.
I agree.
Next time we come on this show together,
let's all wear body glitter.
Deal?
And pashmina and jeans.
No, you're taking it too far,
but I will commit to the glitter.
Okay, Coco Chanel, remove one thing.
I'm so kitchen sinky.
I can't even handle it.
Okay.
Sometimes I talk to couples about this.
Like how do you embrace changes in each other?
Because that's usually attributed to couples with longevity.
But what about with girlfriends?
When there is a relationship that's been for so long,
it is like, it's like a marriage,
but it's more like a sisterhood.
When you love somebody,
then it's just there and it's solid.
And then you treat it more.
Love can be like a fabric.
And so there can be room for different chapters
and different journeys.
And, you know, I think if you can stay centered
and just know that you love that person no matter what,
then that's how you move through life.
I mean, your sister-in-law,
who I don't mean to drop a name,
but happens to be Cameron Diaz.
And her best friend.
Who I've known since I was 14.
It's hard to quantify because it is a lifetime.
It is.
Our friendship has literally been our entire lives.
I don't know anyone besides my sister and my family
that I've known like Nicole.
And it's just amazing just every time I look at her,
just like flushes of like memories
will just come back to me.
Even when we're like four years old,
I can remember things.
And that's really special
because that's so rare to have a lifelong friendship.
What is good advice for maintaining a lifelong friendship
that will go through evolutions, changes,
gaps, closeness, all of it?
I think that, you know,
you have this solid ground of honesty and love
and you can move through.
Agreed.
Yes.
My friends have always been so real with me.
Like that moves me to no end.
I think it's why I want to make them proud.
Absolutely.
I don't even know how in the hell
we were so out there without social media.
I think about it all the time.
I mean, oh my God.
How are we going to handle this with our kids?
We came out the other side.
We are some classy business ladies, you know?
And it's like, now we're raising kids
where everything is out there
kind of in the way we grew up
and yet we didn't even have that platform.
How do we raise our kids in this new normal?
The more I understand it and then talk to them about it
and, you know, just say to them,
anything that you put out there
is going to be out there forever.
By the way, they know it.
You know, they know it very well.
There's so much I will say about this generation.
I find them way more mature than us.
And, you know, I think that they really
have a deep understanding of just, you know,
you put something out there and it's out there forever
and they, you know, they definitely know that.
I definitely have a really transparent relationship
with my kids.
I remember when, like, they were born,
people would be like, what are you going to tell them?
And I was like, first of all.
Second of all, I'm going to have to tell them the truth,
which is kind of liberating.
I don't have to pretend.
I agree, I find a safety in it.
I do too, a real comfort.
A comfort, yeah.
How about you?
I just navigate it just by being the best mom that I can be
and they are my life and they're so innocent and so sweet.
And it does scare me thinking about, you know,
when London's a teenager
and I don't even know what social media will, you know,
morph into by that point.
But just being-
Probably in our pupils, yeah.
Probably.
It's just, like, really scary sometimes
because it just can be so toxic,
especially for a young girl.
I'm relieved to hear you say that
because I feel like you exude such confidence
and such, like, ownership of yourself and your life.
I really do.
It's a secret, constantly asking questions.
I thought your answers were brilliant
and I think the way you move through the world
gives me a lot of joy.
And I think we've always really been ourselves,
which is hard to figure out how to be
in this world at any age.
Looking at the three of us, I am really happy.
Me too.
I am!
Any other way.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
And we're still living life and loving it.
I love this chapter.
Me too, it's my favorite chapter.
Really?
Yes, I've never felt happier, more confident.
Just so in love, I have the most incredible husband.
I just feel so safe and, like, my life is finally complete.
You both did choose really, really good men
and I'm so happy for you.
All three episodes of Paris and Nicole the Encore
