Don’t be fooled by those so-called “battery testers” that are out there. Many of them will only check the voltage of your battery, which doesn’t tell you the whole story about its health and performance. You need to use a tool like this TopDon model that I’m showing you today. This type of tester actually performs a proper load test, which is crucial for understanding how your battery will perform under real-world conditions, and it also checks your battery’s cold cranking amps (CCA). This is a much more accurate and reliable way to know if your battery is in good shape and ready to start your vehicle, especially in colder weather. So, make sure you’re using a tester that does more than just check voltage; get one that does a load test and checks cold cranking amps, just like this excellent TopDon unit.

Hey guys, not all battery testers are created equal.
There are a lot of them out there on the market
that claim to be battery testers,
but all they do is check base voltage
and tell you if it's within a certain range.
They don't actually check the actual battery
by either doing a load test
or by checking the resistance in the battery.
Top Don has been making top of the notch,
top quality automotive diagnostic equipment
for many, many years.
And they made a small,
you can see it fits in my hand right here.
It has two clips that you put on the battery
and it is an actual battery tester.
Not these make-believe ones,
not these ones that just tell you voltage,
but actually will test the battery.
And it's really simple.
Once you get it powered on, you hit the menu button.
It gives you a list of different things right here.
At the very top is the battery test.
So I'm gonna hit the button again on battery test,
hit the enter button,
and then it lets me pick.
So this lets you do regular flooded batteries,
which is your regular batteries that most people get.
But then you also got AGM type batteries,
gel type batteries.
So if you have a special battery
that's not a regular acid flooded battery
like this one is,
then you can pick that one as well.
But we have regular flooded batteries.
We're gonna pick it.
It asks me how many cold cranking amps I have, right?
So I'm gonna hit enter.
And I have a 680 cold cranking amp battery.
It automatically comes up at 500.
So I'm gonna go up to 680 cold cranking amps.
So I'm at 680, I'm gonna hit enter.
And then it automatically,
once I hit those cold cranking amps,
right now it says testing.
And when it's done testing, boom, good battery.
It tells me that my health of the battery is 100%.
It had 717 cold cranking amps available to it.
It was charged at 95% at 12.57 volts.
Internal resistance was 4.18.
And it rated at 680 cold cranking amps
and it tested good under a load test.
It was a good battery.
So your other ones that you might see,
like I said, they might just tell you 12.4 volts,
but if you put it under a load, it drops way below 9.6.
It doesn't recover quickly.
This is checking all of that
and even gives you a color code telling you it's green.
Yellow will be charged over here.
If it was red, it would be bad.
So this is a simple tester that anybody can use.
And it's the right way to test a battery.
And it's a small portable one
you can keep in your glove compartment
or keep in your garage toolbox or something like that.
So I'm really happy with Top Don.
I'm happy with this guy.
I think they did a good job with it,
making a small portable and easy for anyone.
You don't have to be a mechanic to use it.
So they hit all the check marks on this one for me.
So this one gets one of my biggest thumbs up
that I've done in quite a while.
So good job, Top Don.
