AI GeneratedScott and Sue enjoy a relaxing getaway in Perthshire, Scotland, staying at a cozy Airbnb farm cottage. Their trip blends nostalgic visits to towns like Aberfeldy and Dunkeld with scenic drives through the highlands. Despite minor cottage issues and some challenges finding dinner in Callander, they highlight the region's natural beauty and the necessity of a car for rural exploration.
Hi everyone my name's Scott. Welcome to Plains Trains Everything and welcome to
Deepest Darkest Persia. I'm here with Sue and for the next couple of nights we're
staying in this beautiful farm cottage booked through Airbnb. I think we should go inside and
explore. If I can get the key in the hole. And how did we get here? We took the scenic route.
Okay a very quick tour of the home. Smart TV, a fire that will be lit tonight, a very comprehensive
book on rules and information on the area, a sofa and a sofa bed. This is absolutely beautiful.
In the kitchen we have a seated area, coffee maker, microwave oven, a hob, most importantly
a kettle and a toaster, selection of teas and coffees and a fridge. As we walk into the bedroom
we see a table and a mirror, another fireplace, beautiful big double bed. Look how this has been
decorated. It's like a home away from home. And finally into the bathroom. Beautiful here. It's
colour coordinated with purples and lilacs, wash hand basin, a bath and a shower with a choice of
shower heads. I just can't get away with how lovely it is and how much space there is because I thought
one bedroom is going to be really pokey but it's actually not. Sue found this. You're responsible
for this place what do you think so far? I think it's beautiful. It's lovely. I'm not going home.
Yeah we've already realised that two nights isn't enough. No and we've only been here 10 minutes
and we think we might just stay here. Stay here to sleep. And we won't tell Blair. Or we just won't give
the keys back to the owners. That's it. Right let me just take you back into the lavatory.
This is actually very nice. I love the colour coordination here. All purples and lilacs
and a lot of detail here as well. Look at that. How cool is that? Oh they're not real.
Right we've gone through every single corner of this place and it's absolutely beautiful.
Absolutely lovely but we're going to head out now to Blairgowrie. Yeah Blairgowrie to get some
supplies. And some food for tonight because we're starting to get a little bit hungry.
Right we'll see you on the road. Sue have you noticed one thing about this place? No. Listen
I can hear a wood pigeon.
One trip to Tesco successful with an Asda bag. Coca-Cola purchased.
What do you think of the dinner? It was yum. It was
pretty darn good. It was very good actually. It was really nice. The chips were amazing.
Right let's go. In fact the whole thing was amazing. Let's get back to our...
Would you call it a home? It's home. It's like a home for two nights. It's a home from home.
Right let's get home. 14 minutes.
Sue's losing the plot here. I can't. Talking to herself and answering herself which is a worry.
Hopefully I get the right answer. Right you're gonna have a shower and I'm gonna try and put
this fire on. Oh yeah. Come on baby light my fire. We can edit that don't worry. Right let's give this
a try. I've never actually lit a fire before so this could actually be an epic fail. At least I
got the match lit. That's something. Do you need me to supervise? No there's a giant wasp in here.
Is there? Yep. Where did they come from? They must have a wasp's nest then. The match went out.
That's a very big one as well. It's a great big thing. It looks like a hornet.
It's not gonna like it in a minute. No. No? Yeah? I'm not sure if it's liking or not.
It shouldn't take more than a feel. I'm gonna close this because I'm worried about that wasp
coming out. Yeah you're away. That's it. That's you. You can see him there. He's not a happy bunny
Very happy now. He's gone now. He's gone. He's gone. Yeah. It was quick and painless. It's a
cooped wasp but that's two we'll find. The one in the bathroom looked as if it was half dead
mind you. I'm gonna stand back in case it goes boom right.
Dear oh dear. I think that's gonna be really really cozy. I'm looking for Harrison.
I'll show you where Harrison also comes.
Sue went for a shower last night and was not impressed at all with that shower. Let's give
it a try. I found the shower actually not too bad. I'd give it a seven out of ten
but Sue found one design flaw last night. So here's the shower. Do you see what the problem is?
Sue is actually not as tall as me so to adjust that you have to move that bit down
and you can't because that's in the way. Uh-oh. So our first job of the day is to film chat PTE or
question and answer session which is going to be in the garden but more importantly Sue's
discovered how the wasps are getting in. Show me where they're getting in. In this wee air vent in
the wall there. You can't see any just now but they're crawling in and out of there so yeah
that's where they are. This cottage has an assortment of oh what's that? A dog kennel or
something. Oh cool. Yeah they're very dog friendly here. Nice garden and that's where we're going to
do our uh our video for chat PTE. Hi everyone my name's Scott. Welcome to Plains Trains Everything
and welcome to somewhere in random Perthshire. I'm here with Sue and uh we're enjoying some
sunshine. Okay we've just spent the last uh what hour and a half two hours doing our Q&A.
Like a good two hours. We've got interrupted by the owners and wasps and things and the camera
problems. Yeah the GoPro couldn't handle the Scottish weather um and we have a bin that's a
long story. Right we're gonna get organized and we're gonna go for a little walk. The owner said
it's only about 100 meters around the property. Yeah so down here we've got some geese over here
some swans over there and some random birds over there. I did ask Sue if she wanted to go for a
little boat ride but she said no. I don't know that looks in good shape. That would work I think
wouldn't it? Sue's now regretting just booking two nights instead of three. We could have done
with three nights couldn't we? Actually I'm really I'm quite regretting it but I can always come back
but maybe not in January. No no no but I think as well we've been very very lucky
with the weather. It's always like this in Scotland. Loads of a loads of um rabbits. At
least two days every year anyway it is. Loads of rabbits. Oh yeah. And it's a bit like it reminds
yeah and an old Land Rover as well but it's not an old one it's still in working order.
I remember when we went to St Cyrus the first time and we stayed in the Kirkside Bothy. Which
is no more I think. Which is a private home now. It's still there but it's no longer a B&B
and we went for a walk in the evening and I remember you said to me stand still
and we stood still and you could hear all the rabbits in the underground. Scurrying. Scurrying
about and then we got along and there was an old cemetery and it was filled with rabbits.
And orange bones. So we found bones there didn't we? Yeah funnily enough in a cemetery imagine that.
The thing was we went for a walk and we went by the time we'd come back had been taped off by the
police because under Scottish law. Yeah we had to tell the guy. If human bones are found it doesn't
matter what the reason if if you find human bones it gets taped off and investigated. These bones
were hundreds of years old but because they had been removed from the ground by the rabbits
they apparently had to get the police in. I remember that it was remember Time Team on
Channel 4 years ago. Oh you used to watch that. I watched it every Sunday night but they said that
in Scotland if you find any human bones it doesn't matter whether they're 200 years old
obviously or 2,000 years old everything stops the police get called. Right we're heading to
Pitlochry. It's now gone what 3? 3.30? Oh I honestly couldn't see it. It must be at least 3.30.
We're sliding from having missed lunch straight into a very early dinner as per usual with me.
Let's go to Pitlochry and get some food. Yep definitely sounds good to me.
Welcome to Pitlochry. Sue and I have just realized that it's 20 to 5.
We haven't had lunch and she's copying the same bad habit I've got. You go from breakfast
straight into dinner and miss lunch. I think we should find something to eat. Are you getting
hungry? I'm indeed and I'm sure I saw the word pizza somewhere down there outside the restaurant.
Let's go hunting.
So what did you order? Chicken ghillie cranky.
In it. It's gonna be yum. I went for the risotto.
Hello. Hello, nice to meet you here.
You can tell this is not the height of tourist season because it's just gone what 6pm?
Yes. And it's starting to get a bit quiet here in Pitlochry. Yes and a bit chilly actually.
It is a bit chilly. Just to remind you don't get too cocky yet. It's not quite summer yet.
Not yet. We're looking for rabbits. There's loads of them. We're rabbit hunting.
Hey that's us back at the cottage. I guess you could call it a cottage. I can feel
a food coma kicking in. How about you? I could do with a wee nap. Absolutely stuffed after that
dinner. It was really nice. Beautiful. It was lovely. Yeah let's get inside. It's getting a
bit chilly. It is. That's what happens when Sue walks on gravel wearing slippers. Oh ow.
They're actually like sock slippers so they've actually not got a hard sole.
We're both actually quite exhausted. Apparently down to the huge meal we had. It was absolutely
delicious but boy are we full now. So we're going to have an early night and I'll see you in the
morning. So day three and we're heading home. What did you think? Well this morning I'm tired but I
think that was just, you know when you go to bed and you know you must get up at a certain time.
So I knew we had to check out at 10. So I think that was in my mind all the time when I went to
bed. So I took a while to fall asleep. I slept like a log. But I've had a wonderful stay and
I wish it was another two nights. Yeah I was going to say the only problem is we stayed here for two
nights. Yeah. Where are we going today? Aberfeldy was it? We're going to Aberfeldy, Dunkeld and
Kilin. So you're in for a treat. Right okay let's, we've packed the car. We have yeah. Let's get
going. And we're going to go and as you say get some food and we'll see you there. Oh yeah we need
some good breakfast yeah. Okie dokie the first stop is Dunkeld. Let's see what there is. Yeah.
You've been here before as a wee girl. Oh you're talking maybe 40 years ago. You're that old.
So we've just had a coffee and we're having a scientific discussion.
Does decaf get you up to cruising altitude? What do you reckon? I don't know but it's very nice
and satisfying. It was excellent. It was a lovely coffee. Right we're going to go into this wee,
what is it? I think it's antiques but I'm not entirely sure. But I'm nosy because it's an old
church. So we're going to go in and find out what is it. We need to go in for research and
information purposes.
Going in the river I thought but please don't. I'll be back. I should stay here. Okay.
Not overly safe but hey they can do this.
So was the scramble down the riverbank worth it?
I think so. Now the hard bit, getting back up again.
And where are we off to now? Aberfeldy. Aberfeldy. Yep.
Um hello? Oh it works.
Sue's just visiting the loo at the moment. She wanted to see Aberfeldy because I think she was
here as a young girl and she wanted to see if anything she could remember anything. We're
going to have a wander around then we might get some lunch.
Sue's a happy girl because she's now discovered something from her past. Something that I did
remember is actually. Used to go putt putt here. Used to go putting there. And she remembers this
old bridge coming up. Yeah. Memories. Oh. Careful. The ankle went, it just went.
What a beautiful bridge.
Okay next point of interest is Kilin. We bought some sheep orientated souvenirs as well.
Got to think about Blair. Oh yeah. Can't go wrong with the sheep.
Should I just put them in my handbag?
Isn't this pretty? We stopped off at Kenmore because we realised it was half past two and
that means one thing. We're starting to get hungry. So we're on the lookout for food.
Okay Kenmore struck out in regards to food. We're on to Kilin now.
And here we are in downtown Kilin. And we're on the hunt for food because I don't know about you
but I'm getting hungry. Well my stomach said. It's now. Please feed me. I think it's about
about 3 30. It must be yeah. So we've slid right past lunch and we're heading into a very early
dinner. So is that a dunch or a lunch? A lunner. A lunner. Is it a lunner? Right okay. So we're still
on the hunt for food here. But we have come to one agreement that to see this part of Scotland
you need to have a car. Yes definitely. To see Scotland properly, what I would say is real
Scotland and not your big towns and cities, you have to I think really drive. Just to get to see
those wee hidden gems and things. Because we're looking at the bus stop here we're wondering what
public transport was like. It's pretty dire. So for example if you want to go to Stirling or to
Tyndrum, Monday to Friday, you're out of luck. Only two services on a Saturday. Nothing on a Sunday.
One, two, three, four, five services to Callander. There's not much. No. It's not like you go and kill a couple
hours wandering around. There's only so much wandering around you can do in places this size.
And I was thinking if you missed your bus. Oh boy.
Head east then turn right.
Turn right towards Main Street. We've just headed out of town. Falls of Dockart. And Sue seems to
think she remembers being in here and it's pretty decent. In fact we were here way back. When do you
reckon we were here? It was the late 90s? It would have been the late 90s or early 2000s. Yeah it's been a
long time ago but as soon as I saw this old old ancient bridge I thought boom I remember this
place. I feel, I feel confident we're gonna get some food now because I'm starting to get hungry.
Letting go according to plan. Restaurant doesn't know for another hour and when it does it's
reservations only. I was wondering where Sue had disappeared off to. She's looking at the falls.
Hello. Trying to indicate. That's very pretty. You should film. It's now gone 4 pm and we're heading for
Calendar. It's just gone 5 pm but I think we're onto something now. We've done a little bit of
research. Instead of wandering aimlessly around the town there's a place just down there and they
do a bit of everything. Well if you find on a menu that they've got steak and ale pie and fish and
chips. Right that's it. And mac and cheese. You can't go wrong. All sorted. Just up here.
Okie dokie that also did not go according to plan. They get a really good ride up online
but it's open only for tours and when I saw the actual restaurant area it looked more like a
cafeteria with numbers on them and they had a seat plan and I thought you know this doesn't
look promising. They don't do bar meals. So Riverside Inn across the road. Exactly we'll try that.
I was just thinking worst case scenario Glasgow is two miles, sorry two hours down the road.
We can get something to eat there.
Here we go Riverside Inn.
Cheers.
More water members.
So Sue who has made a pizza or two in her life what did you think of that one?
That was absolutely delicious. It was gorgeous and the pizza sauce was
as near authentic as I think I've had. Out of 10?
Maybe not 10 but I'd go a nine, nine and a half. Was that because you were hungry?
Well yeah I was hungry but no definitely not. You know me if I don't like it I'm not eating it and
that's it. So a Sue rating is a thumbs up then? Yeah definitely.
Okie dokie so that's us now full bellies and we're heading home.
What did you think about our road trip around Perthshire? It was great it really was fabulous.
It brought back a lot of memories from childhood and we've been very very lucky with the weather.
Ah this is typical weather in Scotland. Well of course yes but Scotland I mean I suppose
everywhere looks better in the sun. I guess so yeah but I mean it's a lovely part of Scotland
which people just zip through Perthshire and to go somewhere else they should slow down.
There's all the motorways and I think if you take the smaller roads it's just beautiful.
And would you do it again? Oh need you ask me that?
Okay I won't bother. I think actually I would probably go back to that cottage.
Yeah it was a lovely cottage. It was gorgeous. It was 20 minutes from everywhere really wasn't it?
Yeah it was fabulous. It was great. So I've enjoyed my wee trips. And I'm sure we're going
to have other road trips around Scotland as well so keep an eye open for them. Plenty more to see.
Yeah so thanks for coming along guys. Thanks everybody. I'll see you next time.
