All right guys in this video I'm going to show you guys how to use solder sticks.
So these things if you look at them they have a little piece of solder right there in the middle
and you can melt that solder onto the wire. Now conventionally in the past we might have used
butt crimp butt connectors like this one where you crimp both ends onto the two wires and those
worked okay but this one is going to do a lot more giving you a better connection a more solid
connection better conductivity and keep dirt moisture and contaminants out of the the joint
right. So the first thing that we're going to do and I might have to do this video twice because
I'm going to be using this one a lot and this is one of my favorite electrical tools this is a
testman wire stripper but wire stripper is just not a really great name for this thing because
it does so much stuff right. So I got some blue wire here I'm going to use the testman wire stripper
to cut the wire right so not only can it cut the wire now I can use it to put it in here and strip
the wire and then I can use it on the other end strip the wire but since I'm wanting to connect
two wires together I'm going to cut this wire again right in the middle and then I'm going to
strip the two ends where I just cut. So now you see I got how easy that was to cut and strip that wire
with just this one tool if I was using the old style crimp types I can see the blue red yellow
down here at the bottom I could put my connector in there and I could crimp them so this thing will
cut strip and crimp all at once great tool. Anyway that's not the purpose of this video the purpose
of this video is teach you about the wire right so what you want to do is you want to find the
right size so you can see that this wire if I try to put it in there it's a little small the red is
for really small wires you got white for really tiny tiny wires you got the yellow is going to
fit some large gauge wires but then you have the blue which is the size that we need you can see
how it fits in there pretty comfy. Now when you look at this you can see that I could push the
wire too far really important to make sure that the part that you have stripped is right there
inside of that solder and you want to do that with both of them so I want to take this wire
and this wire and I want to put them both right there in that solder together all right so that's
where I want them both those wires are in that solder and then I'm going to use the good old
heat gun you don't need to spend a fortune on one of these all it has to do is produce heat
I bought this one at Harbor Freight 10-15 years ago still works great so what you're going to do
is you're going to turn on your heat gun and you're going to put it right there on that solder
it's going to heat it up it's going to melt it and you can see it's getting pretty hot pretty quick
but I want to get it really hot I kind of want to move it around a little bit as I do it
and what's also nice is you can see that the plastic that's around it is also shrinking down
so it's a heat shrink built into the solder want to leave it on there a little while just
because I want to make sure that gets melted and gets mixed in with the wires really good
all right so at this point now you can see that the plastic heat shrinked around the wires around
the insulation so I've got the protection there for moisture and I've got a good seal that solder
is holding those wires in there really well so the other thing that you could do and I like to
do this because this is great but I also prefer the additional just feeling of a better secure
fit of putting some actual other heat shrink on there and then what I'll do is I'll take that heat
shrink all right now I've got a wire that looks professionally repaired right and it doesn't
look like crap and it's done right you could use cigarette lighters and things like that to do
these but they really kind of yeah I would recommend getting one of these they're not
expensive you probably find one for around 10 bucks at a store but then this is why I like the
solder type instead of the butt connector type is because I have a good seal it's held together well
and I'm not going to get water or moisture in there to cause a rust or corrosion or contamination
so this is something that if you do any kind of wiring work I would recommend getting a set of
these they're pretty inexpensive on the tiktok store check them out you won't regret it these
are things are really good and don't forget also about the testman check out my showcase
this tool is awesome thank you
