Beauty is on the inside.
It feels like something you would go and like massage someone's arm with it.
Oh yeah, the rollers.
It's the same as your head.
Hello, I'm a fruit.
Hello everybody, welcome back to the channel.
My name is Alan, this is My Life in Taiwan.
This is Prozzie.
Hi.
And today we have got an incredibly special video for you.
I am going to be trying a secret Taiwanese fruit
that I'm pretty sure you've never even seen nor heard of.
I wasn't expecting that.
I had no idea why you're even in my house.
But yes, it's not just Prozzie in the video.
We have got some of my friends from around Taiwan.
I'm Eddie, 23.
I'm an English teacher in Taiwan.
Hi, I'm Tina.
I work at Ching Jee Tattoos.
Hello, I'm Shasha.
I've been in Taiwan for just over a year.
Hi, I'm Prozzie from Canada.
I'm Kiwi.
I'm 28 and I'm from New Zealand.
Hello, I'm Mikey and I'm from Wales.
Hello, my name is Andy.
I'm from London, England.
I've been in Taiwan for two and a half years.
That's about all there is.
Hi, I'm Josh.
I'm American.
And I'm American too.
Hey, I'm Lewis.
I'm from the UK and I've been in Taiwan for exactly a year.
My name is Damien.
I'm also from England.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Stuart.
I'm from Northern Ireland.
See, hold on, I have to say one thing, right?
Do I speak like myself?
That's enough for the introductions.
Let's get this video on topic and talk about Taiwanese fruits.
When you think of Taiwanese fruits, what specific fruits come to mind?
Pineapple.
Mangoes.
Mango.
Tropical, like pineapples.
Or like papaya.
Papaya, yeah.
Mangoes.
Lychee.
Mango is where he wants.
Papaya.
What's the stinky one?
Liu Lian.
But I don't think those are grown in Taiwan.
The red one.
It can be either red or...
What's that purple one with a lot of seeds in it?
Dragon fruit.
Dragon fruit, which I don't even think are Taiwanese.
Know about dragon fruit after you've eaten it.
Pineapple, for sure.
Is spring onion fruit?
Do you eat fruits?
Sometimes.
I've only ever seen you eat an apple once.
Jackfruit.
What's that?
It has to be called jack to pick it or something.
This is tough.
Okay, what's your favorite fruit?
My favorite fruit is Sikya.
Pineapples.
Yeah, I like pineapple.
Juicy pineapple, yeah.
Lemon, definitely.
I'm a big fan of the mangoes out here.
Yeah, I love mango.
Especially like mango smoothies.
Just eat a lemon.
You peel a lemon and...
Yeah.
I'm pretty basic.
I just like apples.
They're kind of my favorite fruit.
So now we know how they feel about some Taiwanese fruits.
Let's get their reaction to the star of today's video.
Are you ready to see some fruit?
I'm excited.
Oh, wow.
This is your fruit.
Looks ominous.
Looks spiky.
Yeah, it kind of makes me think a little bit like durian's cousin.
Oh, nice.
Okay, I don't...
Actually, I don't think I've ever...
You got the same one?
I do, but I don't think I've ever seen this fruit before.
One for you.
Feels good, nice and soft.
If you saw this in the supermarket, would you pick it up?
I wouldn't.
This is very similar to Sikyung.
I think I've seen it though.
It's very strange.
Can you smell it?
What does that smell like?
You can smell something?
Oh, it actually smells pretty nice.
Oh, it's heavier than I thought.
Yeah.
It feels like something you would go and like massage someone's arm with it.
Oh, yeah, the rollers.
Yeah, that's actually not a bad idea.
It's like a dragon egg.
It's heavy.
I have no idea.
And when you hold it this way, it looks like unripe bananas.
When you hold it this way, it's like something like an egg, a dragon egg.
Actually, the more I look at it, it looks like a really big green strawberry.
And they're so big.
But it's a lot heavier than it looks.
And this is from Taiwan.
This is indigenous to Taiwan.
It's indigenous to Southeast Asia, but this specific one,
It's not a guava.
It smells very sweet.
I guess it's firm and soft at the same time.
There's nothing I could compare this to.
Nothing feels like this.
Mm, it smells nice too.
It reminds me of like a pine cone.
I have no idea what this is.
What is this?
It's a custard apple.
Andy is close in calling it a custard apple,
but this is in fact a cross between two similar fruits
and is actually known as an Atamoya fruit.
With high protein and carbohydrate levels,
it is also rich in calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium,
which is an important element for maintaining cardiovascular health.
And interestingly, Atamoya contains more vitamin C than a guava.
It's actually called an Atamoya fruit.
What?
Atamoya.
One word.
Atamoya fruit.
Okay.
Atamoya fruit.
Atamoya.
Did you not watch Wes Davies' video?
Yeah, we both totally watched him.
We watched his video.
He told you to like press it in.
Like, is that right?
Is that ready to go?
Talking of ready to go,
eating your Atamoya fruits at the right time is crucial.
Choose a green Atamoya that is round with yellow grooves
and consumers are advised to buy those that are intact
without damage or holes from pests or spots caused by insecticide.
Fruits that feature thick flesh and smooth skin are recommended.
And one other item that came with my delivery
was this eraser attached to this information card.
So I asked my friends to try and guess why they had sent me the eraser.
Why do you think they provided me with an eraser?
Rubber time?
You'll never forget this fruit.
So you won't be able to erase it from your memory.
Wayne, can you touch it?
Yeah.
Does it like stain your cutting board?
Because once you take off the eraser, it will tell you when you can eat it.
So we can only eat it once we've used all the eraser.
The softness of it?
Yes, that's it.
So when the softness...
Oh, when it's as firm as an eraser.
Oh, okay.
That's clever.
Oh, I see.
Oh, okay.
It has to be a little bit of give in it that matches the...
It's the same as your head.
Some parts of it are more erasery than other parts.
Yeah, I noticed near the top.
The top is very, very soft.
Oh, I suppose it's the perfect ripeness.
Yeah, like give it a go.
Oh, yeah.
Like if you give it a good squeeze with two thumbs, it's going to explode.
Mine's like hard.
That's why I think I can just twist it open.
So now my friends had checked their Atemoya for perfect ripeness.
It was time to eat.
And if you would like to eat some Atemoya and earn another chance to register
for the second round of the Agricultural Voucher Lottery,

and win the chance to register for the lottery.
Activity time is from now until January the 30th.
Click the link in the description down below.
And take a guess of how you would eat it.
Peel it.
Just rip it off and inside there's going to be something juicy.
I think we should just go for it.
Like really try and rip into it.
And if that fails, get the knife.
I reckon we have it in slices like a pineapple.
I'm guessing it kind of like peels apart maybe.
Dive in with a spoon.
I imagine it'd be something like opening up an avocado.
Once you cut it, you just sort of twist it off a core, you know.
Cut it in half.
Yeah.
So it's like two bowls almost.
Like kind of like how you eat grapefruit.
Many people in the comment section of my previous fruit video
said you have to get it with two hands and rip it open.
But lots of videos I've watched online with Atemoya, they use a knife.
So we can try both.
We can try knife and we can try...
Okay.
That's it, that's it.
Oh, I'm getting it everywhere.
Juice everywhere.
Goodness me.
I'm feeling like I'm going to crush it though.
Don't know what that is.
Flesh.
Looks like chicken.
It kind of looks like a bread pudding almost.
So you mean cut it like this, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, I don't know, it's really...
Cuts quite nicely.
Yeah, it's a really good knife.
It does look like chicken.
Can I eat it?
I think you can go for it, yeah.
All right.
Don't eat the skin.
Go on.
Cut, we're changing the spoons.
Okay, should we dive in?
Yeah, take it away.
Oh, that's lovely.
Are you a fussy eater normally, Josh?
Yeah, I'm probably about the fussiest eater you'll meet.
I want you to try first.
Why do you want me to try first?
Look at these first.
All right.
I'm not really good at this, as you can tell, okay?
How is it?
Daddy, my turn.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, I like that.
Yeah.
What does it taste like?
I don't know.
It's a very interesting texture.
Kind of like, um, cantaloupe.
You think so?
Mm-hmm.
Sort of.
Very similar.
It gives me a bit of melon vibes.
Oh, shh.
You do not want to eat the seeds.
The microphone's going to pick that up.
That's actually all right.
Oh, my goodness.
This one is really soft.
I think this one I can try and eat with a spoon.
I'd eat that all day.
But yeah, no, that's actually delicious.
How much is these?
If you want to buy one of these, how much are these to buy?
I've never seen them on sale in 14 years.
Oh, wow.
That's yum.
It's really sweet.
It tastes like if you've got a mango and just put a lot of sugar on it.
Help yourself, mate.
Here you go.
It's like a cross between a pineapple and an apple.
That's pretty good.
But you know, like, I'm a huge fan of mango.
Uh-huh.
This actually kind of tastes like mango.
Texture's like mango, yeah.
I mean, yeah, it's, uh, it's got a mango-y feel to it.
It would make a really good juice.
I can imagine that being good in a, like a, in a juice.
But no, it's really sweet.
So it's like a really nice taste, but the texture is interesting.
But it's really sweet.
Like, the flavor's good.
I would drink, I would drink a cup of this juice.
There's like a sweetness to it.
It's way different to what I expected it to be.
It's tangy.
Is it what you expected it to taste?
No, not at all, no.
I thought, I don't even know what it, I don't even know what I expected it to taste like.
Like, I guess a pineapple flavor.
But the pineapple's like a little bit sour, a little bit bitter.
But this is not bitter at all.
It's got the texture of, um...
Kind of sweet mango, almost.
It has the texture of, um, um, of...
There we go, there's a big bit.
Let's try that.
You prepared it?
Yeah.
Right.
Goddammit, what am I thinking of?
It has a texture of a totally different fruit.
Mango?
No.
Texture-wise, it's similar to a mango.
It's very good.
Yeah.
I like it a lot.
Where are they from?
Where's this, where's this fruit from?
A taigong.
I'm trying to think of a fruit, it has the exact same texture.
Watermelon?
No.
This is lovely, I think I'll be, uh, having this a bit more.
Okay, the texture is watermelon.
That's what I was thinking, I think it's watermelon.
No, I don't think so, it's not watermelon.
Okay, he does like his sugar.
Peach?
No.
Do you like it, Alan?
I love it, yeah.
Oh, really?
Banana?
No.
Why can't I think of it?
I feel like it's one of the fruits where, like, you first try it, you're like,
but then the more you eat it, the more you're like, actually.
Yeah.
Oh my god, what is that texture?
I know it.
We sow the seed, nature grows the seed, and then we eat the seed.
I'm sure it's mango.
It tastes like a mango.
It does taste a lot like a mango.
It's like half mango, half pineapple.
This would be one of my favorite fruits if you could eat this with no seeds.
Yeah.
Something, I don't know what they're doing to how to make it so sweet.
Fibrous.
It feels very sweet.
Would you recommend it to your family back home?
What do you think?
Oh, absolutely.
Absolutely.
I think they would go banana.
Pineapple.
I feel like they would.
My family quite like these kind of tropical fruits, so I think they would actually quite
like it.
But I think, like, if they tried it, if they gave it a go, then they'd see that there's
a, you know, there's beauty inside.
Beauty is on the inside.
I just keep thinking about how happy the first person who discovered this fruit was.
And so they open it and they bite into this weird, sinister looking fruit, and to their
delight, it's amazing.
Definitely.
I think my family would really like this.
They're quite adventurous eaters.
They're not picky eaters at all.
So they'll just, they'll look at it and go, oh, it looks interesting.
And they'll try it and go, oh, how nice.
My dad would enjoy the taste.
My family are pretty adventurous at eating, so they would all really like it, especially
my mum.
Don't know who eats the most fruit in my family, but if they could get it, I would
recommend it.
Yep, my mum would like it.
Yeah.
My, yeah, my family, they'd all be all...
How about tell mummy to try it?
We have destroyed that.
Yeah.
Wow.
OK, Mark's out of 10 for flavour.
For the taste, I'll give it a 10.
8 or 9.
It's really good.
I'll give it a solid 7.
I'll give it a good 7.
Probably 8.
No, it's good.
I'll give it a green thing out of 10.
It's very tasty.
Yeah, that's a double thumbs up.
I like that one.
10 out of 10.
I think I'll go with an 8.
Oh, wow.
That's a 9, but I am quite hungry, so...
10.
I love this.
I knew you would.
Next time I'm at the grocery store, I might pick one of these bad boys up.
That's pretty much it for us.
