Hey everyone, I want to play and teach you how to paint this because I'm making this for
all you nanas. All your nanas. We are going to make something for nanas. So hey everyone,
welcome back to another video. My name is Emily Fave. I have my son Miles who is homesick today
but I thought he could just, you know, hang out with us and introduce today's video. So today
we are on to painting another Mother's Day card idea. I love doing these. I'm going to be away
for Mother's Day. I'm going to be on my retreat in Greece but I'm really hoping that a special
someone may have something planned for mummy for Mother's Day. Do you have anything planned?
Yeah. Are you going to make me something for Mother's Day? Yeah. Is mummy a good mummy?
I'll make something for grandma and you. Oh thank you so much. For daddy and Noah. Okay.
Okay. For just everyone in the family? Yeah. Okay. So let's jump in and get started.
Okay friends, we are on to our last Mother's Day card idea. I want to make this one quick and easy
and it doesn't have to be a Mother's Day card idea. We're going to do a little banner and then
some florals kind of jumping out of it but you could always write happy birthday, best wishes,
my condolences, anything and we're just going to do some flowers that are very very beginner
friendly and easy. So the first thing we're going to do is you're going to grab your card or your
paper. I am using this Ohuhu cotton top watercolor pad. I'm using the hot pressed again because I
really really like the way it performed. This was the cold press, this was the hot press. This is
beautiful as well but because I want to do a banner and a little bit of writing it will be
easier on the hot pressed I believe but I mean use whatever one you like, whatever paper you have.
I like using actual watercolor paper for my cards and then just buying envelopes
that you can stick them in when you're done. So I'm going to be using that. You're going to need
a pencil and eraser and some brushes and some watercolors and let's begin. Okay so the first
thing I'm going to do is I'm going to do a little kind of curve here like so. This is going to be
part of the banner and I just like going back and forth over it just to get the shape I want.
Then I'm going to do another line that is parallel to this. This is our
banner okay and then actually I'm going to make it smaller because I think I'm just going to write
mom on it or you can write whatever you like and then we're just going to round off the corners
kind of, not too round, a little bit just so they're not super super straight like that.
So it has a little bit of a curve there, same curve there like that. Then you're going to go
in the middle of the banner. You're going to do a little line here and a little line here. You're
going to come back a little bit further and do like in here and do another line and in here and
do another line like that and all you're going to do is connect this corner to this with the
little curve like that curve and then you're just going to come up like so. This is our banner
all right then on the ends you're just going to do kind of like an m shape in and out two triangles
and there is our banner and you can write mom whatever you'd like. Now all we're going to do
is we are going to just erase it a little bit just so it's not so dark and we're going to start
painting some flowers just blobs. We're going to make it super easy like it's kind of bursting out
of the card or out of the banner and for this I just want you to do whatever flowers speak to you.
Okay so I'm going to start with my size 6 round brush. I love a good pink so I'm going to grab
my permanent rose and I'm just going to start off by doing like a big kind of fluffy round-ish
peony shape so it's like really loose kind of circle. I might have some petals that are falling
down like this but I'm just coloring the whole thing in. Okay then I'm going to do a little bit
of yellow into my mixture and I'm going to do another one kind of like a more of a blobby shape
like just a jagged circle like that right next to it. Then I'm going to grab I don't know whatever
colors you like a purple I have this like lavender color and I'm going to do kind of like
just some petals coming to back to this circle. What flower is it? I don't know. Okay we're making
it super simple and easy like so. Okay then maybe there's a cluster of like little yellow flowers
somewhere we could do like a kind of going like little blobs going upwards like this
and then make them smaller maybe some kind of going this way too. I'm just doing blobs actual
blobs. Then I'm going to grab more pink I think and I'm going to do little flowers over here
so loose kind of messy looking but we're going to refine it it's going to look great.
I'm going to do another orange one kind of down here maybe I'll have this one like more like
I don't know a tulip shape and then another one smaller like that. I do want to have some greenery
kind of coming out so I'm going to grab my green and we're just going to draw stems
maybe some leaves coming from the base of some of these flowers coming right there and then
underneath the banner so I'm just going to start drawing a lot of stems and leaves coming out from
underneath. Okay and then I'm going to fill up some of this area with some more leaves just using
like this tapping motion with my brush with the tip of it so I do a little curved line and I tap
tap like drag it and pull up you can do some smaller ones you can change up the greens I'm
going to do a little bit of greenery kind of going through this and some more over here
just filling it in and like I said you can change up the green I'm going to add a little bit more
blue to my green I'm going to have some more really loose leaves coming out the sides and
then just fill it in wherever you feel looks a little bare you can fill it in with like little
buds little leaves anything okay and maybe some darker green stems here too like that okay then
while we're waiting for that to dry I'm just going to go over our banner in a really light wash of
like indigo so it's kind of like it's white but not completely or you can do it any color you'd
like I'm just going to do a really light wash of indigo here and then the same back here we are
going to shade the back of the ribbon once it's dry but just go over with whatever color you like
to start okay and then you're going to let everything completely actually before we do that
hold on we need a little yellow for this center and then for these centers okay now we're going
to let everything completely dry okay now that it's dry you can do this next part with watercolor
or you could even go in with colored pencils and all we're going to do is sharpen up and like
separate some petals so I'm going to start with my pink flower here I'm just going to grab some
more of my permanent rose and I'm just going to use the tip and I'm going to kind of do a little
squiggly inside like this and then I'm going to just kind of darken some petals on the outside
just adding some darkness like that we're just like separating some of the petals leaving some
of that white space it's not white space because it's like a light pink but really we're just
placing in kind of like shadows again it's not supposed to be realistic so don't worry about it
too much okay then I'm going to grab some orange this one I'm going to do some little curves right
in the center and I'm just going to kind of go around kind of like a spiral but not too much
maybe make it a little bit thicker towards the edge with the darker bits I'm just doing like
these wavy kind of curved lines like that I might even go right in the center with like a
lime green maybe it's like a ranunculus or something like that our blue one here
I'm going to take that lavender color and I'm just going to add some shadow kind of right at the base
where the yellow is you could go kind of like around the edges if you want but again just
making it really loose like that you want to fix this part just a bit there we go like that
our yellow flowers here just adding a little bit of pink to it so it's a bit darker and I'm just
going to add some darkness to some of them just so it's not like one really light flat yellow
I did leave some white spaces for the centers I haven't decided what color I'm going to do the
centers yet maybe orange but I'm going to let it dry first so I'm just adding extra blobs kind of
on top just so there's a little bit more to them than being like one dimensional this tulip kind
of thing here I'm just going to do a little kind of cut down the center and then just shade just
so it looks like they're tulips like that these ones here again I'm just going to kind of darken
right by the center I might even take my dark pink and just darken this a little bit more
you don't want to do too much like that I'm going to do the same thing to the leaves
just adding a bit more color just to the base of the leaves like this just kind of a little dab
right at the base of them like that you can always go over and just add a little bit more definition
to some of these stems up to you I'm going to go in to the center of these flowers I think with
just like a darker pink just some dots like that and then the center of this one I'm just going to
do a little bit of yellow dots so it has a little bit more texture in the center I'm going to grab a
bit of brown and add it to the base here like that and that's pretty much done for the flowers
you can always add more if you want now the banner right here behind where it curves you
got to take a little bit more of our indigo and we're going to darken that fold that little triangle
so it looks like there's a bit of a fold I'm going to darken over here just a little bit too
behind like really really light wash of your indigo just a little bit more so this part of the
the ribbon or the banner is just a little bit darker like that I feel like I want to add a
little bit more to the banner up here too just a little bit of shading so like the lightest
wash of indigo and then just kind of wash off your brush and dry it like oops like so
we're going to let it all dry and while we're doing that I'm just going to take a really my
size 2 round brush and some pink I always love doing a hand-drawn border I just feel like it
kind of ties it all together so I'm just taking some pink watercolor and I'm going to go around
the edge and there we go and there's our card so I might write grandma on here or nana so my kids
can give this to one of their grandparents but that is about it again you can always change the
color of the banner if it doesn't stand out enough for you but just be really loose and have fun
hope you guys enjoyed it thank you all so much for watching I really hope you enjoyed it and I hope
