Anton Charming, he was part of a 10-man breakaway that took a good 30-40 kilometers to go.
It's been the longest stage of this race since the early 2000s and Anton Charming is about to win it.
What a day, what a way to take your first world tour win. So often a worker for so many and this
is going to be his own reward and Stevie has earned every little bit of this glory he's about to take.
Oh indeed he has, he has a strong breakaway at the start. I suspect it was a selection there at the
start so he's done well to get in there in the first instance and then eventually the terrain
has just weeded out the strongest rider and here on our screen now we see the strongest rider of
today. It's 32 seconds ahead with just less than 2.5k to go. What a performance and hopefully what
a result for Uno-X today. He scratched around for quite a while on a few different teams,
Danish teams, he was away at Astana for a while but Uno-X seems to be the perfect home for a lot
of riders who can't seem to quite hit their best. They get the best out of everybody and they're
going to do it again today. We saw it at the Giro, we saw it last year at the Tour and we're going to
see it again at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The Dauphiné taking us into the heart of the Auvergne
and to this rather unique town in this region, a place of pilgrimage. Every hill seems to have a
chapel or a church on it here. The group behind needs one of those pilgrimage miracles because
they ain't catching on Anton Charmig. Pain on his face is about to turn to delight I'm sure
because the Flamme Rouge is around this corner. There it is, one kilometer to ride, the finish
line almost in sight and he's going to add his name to a long list of breakaway stars that have
won in this town. Shake of the head signals the realization he knows it's the biggest day of his
career. What a sight that is. Oh he looks delighted doesn't he? Understandably so, yeah. We thought at
one stage it could be the day for Clément Brasafonso to break his own victory duck.
Charmig's done it once before in his career at the Tour of Oman but this is something he's never
experienced before. A win in Europe, a win on the world tour and a win against some of the very best
bike riders in the world. It's been almost six hours of suffering. Four riders still chasing
behind and looking to see what they can do. Some good results for each and every rider here.
Likes of, oh no, Haikai's his first year at the world tour. With all our attention on UNO-X mobility
they're specialists at this. They bring the best out of everybody who rides for them
and Anton Charmig is no different. Charmig alone the best of a 10-man breakaway.
It's a first world tour win for the day and he's won the longest stage of this race for well over
two decades. Behind Clément Brasafonso is trying to steal the second if he can. For a little while
today he was in the virtual yellow jersey. Maybe dreaming of stealing off his compatriot Alex Boudin
but that won't happen. It has been a good ride though from the Groupama man. Same for Garcia
Pierna. Von Mechelen now is going to sprint on the left of the shot. He's now through the center.
There is Vlad Von Mechelen. Von Mechelen going all the way to the line. Haikai can't try to
use his own strength to get in front as well and the Frenchman will do it. Second place for him
and Picnic Postonelle. Vital UCI points for them. They're struggling on that front but there is
victory for UNO-X and Anton Charmig who has the day of his life on a bike. Steve as someone who's
done it from a breakaway in quite spectacular circumstances yourself. How on earth does that feel?
Oh you'd be delighted. I think he may be a little bit surprised as well but I think when he looks
back on how he did the race and how he managed his effort and how he kept his power to dry
let's say like that in the final until BAM his strength came out on that final climb and
